Dark Souls II - Prepare to Die, Again

Example: a Club requires 12 STR and 3 DEX. To dual-wield power-stance them you'll need 18 STR and 5 DEX.

I currently seeing what all the fuss is about regarding clubs having never tried them before, and they are quite something, especially early on in the game. You can single shot the Old Knights in Heide's once you've upped them to +2-ish. In fact they make short work of anything armoured.

I'm now using the Large Club and Great Club power-stance, which is frankly ridiculous. lol! Only downfall is lack of poise meaning you have to time your attacks properly (slow start up speed), and the fact I'm naked apart from a Prisoner's Cloth covering my wedding tackle.

I thought I wouldn't be able to do co-op if i wasn't human? I never particularly liked co-op anyway, it felt a lot like cheating

WELL, stoikovich, Dark souls the first didn't prevent you from retrying a section indefinitely. It may have stopped you from acquiring enough souls, but it didn't fuck your health gradually down to half as you did it, nor did it have a heavy reliance on limited and single-use items (LIFEGEMS?).

Also, the last giant isn't impossible with 50% health, you can beat him without getting hit.

Chris, there is another route from Majula you can explore from the get go. If you have a poke around there you may well find an item that relieves the burden of failure. Slightly.

I already beat the last giant, I was up to the pursuer.

So you are complaining that it's too hard, but don't want to make use of the systems that the devs put in to make it slightly easier? OK.

Nope, I'm complaining that the game makes itself harder as you fail, which is bad. It's like, if every time you died in halo on legendary they added skulls, or if on rogue legacy your children got more and more negative traits as time went on!

If this was a new game, then I could accept it as "the way it is", but since it's a sequel, the change really bothers me.

edit: actually, no I couldn't. That kind of punishment for failure on high difficulty scenario should only be used for optional challenges, sidequests etc.

Anyway, I do have to start again, since when I got angry I decided to hurt someone essential to progressing in the game, forgetting that as I wasn't playing on a console, I couldn't turn it off without saving. I'm sure that now I'm more familiar with what's going on, I'll get to where I was in half the time, anyway.

I've nearly maxed out the large club. Two handed power smash for the win! It one shots almost everything.

Really? I was using a great club+10 wirh 45 STR and it didn't seem to one shot much. Annoyingly a lot of enemies left with a sliver of health.

WELL, chris on the moon, Demons Souls had very similar health mechanics :P I was just playing a smart arse, sorry to have got your back up.

Have a little explore around Heide and you can find a ring that will negate a lot of the health loss. :)

I found having my health cut wasn't nearly as bad as I thought going into it. Admittedly it's a bit more punishing near the start when your health is quite small anyway. Honestly I think it made me play better though as I was a lot more cautious and tried actually playing tactically rather than just relying on Estus to save my arse. I only used Effigies once I'd had a few pulls on a boss with less health to get to grips with the patterns etc so that they weren't wasted.

I think I used the most effigies on the damn Pilgrims of Dark stuff which is part of the reason I'm doing NG+ just to level up my int/att so I can go back there this time round and wipe em out.

Enjoying NG+ so far though, although the amount of red phantoms is kind of annoying, don't really understand the point of em tbh. Also really not seeing too many summon signs at the moment, hung out near the Pursuer for a good 15 mins and didn't see a single one. Surprisingly I did go on to oneshot him though so not completely arsed.

Don't spose anyone knows whether summoning works related to level do they? Approacing SL 150 at the moment and tempted to hold there as I've read from a few places that going above that limits summons etc.

I'm sure it's been discussed a thousand times since console release, but, why in the absolute fuck is this game punishing me for dying?

If you do start again and that's bothering you, go to Heide's Tower and go left when you get the choice to get a ring that mitigates that somewhat. You'll need to get by 8 or 9 Old Knights, but they're nice and slow with big telegraphed attacks that are easily avoidable so they're good for learning your rolls and dodges. I still died loads :)

Although the exact parameters haven't been fully established yet, NG+ still relies on Soul Memory for summoning restrictions.

I accidentally overwrote my most popular "now the real fight begins" at the Things Betwixt > Majula tunnel.. Was on about 500! :(

My 'pointless' at No Man's Wharf is now leading with a rating of 300 odd. Where? Why in that completely pointless room, of course!
