Dark Souls II - Prepare to Die, Again

Playing it on my laptop until they fix the crashing issue.

There's definitely something wrong with the weapon durability. I broke a sword fighting two enemies.

Were they heavily armoured? Was it a light/Dex based sword?

Weapons are a lot more fragile in this, balanced by the free repairs at bonfires as long as they're not broken. I'm not entirely sure but I think hitting solid objects, shields and stuff really screws them up.

Is there any way on this (and was there any way in DkS1) to play co-op with people on your friends list and voice chat, etc.? You can buy a ring from the cat in Manjula that says something along the lines of 'allows you to connect with undead who belong to the same god'. Does that let you do something similar?

Yes, but you still have to be relatively close in Soul Level / Soul Memory I think. The exact workings are still up in the air.

I was expecting terrible things from The Gutter from the way some people went on about it (though noone here really) but wasn't really that bad. Onto the next part.

Haha, maybe it was the next part they meant.. ;)

It's short but oh boy.

So when/where do you get things to be able to summon/co-op with? Similarly what are the criteria for being summoned - should summon signs just appear? I went straight to Heide's rather than the Forest and got hooked on practising beating the Old Knights and ended up at the Cathedral as what was presumably a boss fog door, didn't see any summon signs though.

You have to be human to see signs. There some kind of rules based on Soul Level and soul memory that govern who you can summon or be summoned by. The small and normal size soapstone for placing your sign are in Forest of Giants. :)

Yeah, was just chatting about it with Blu3Flame on Steam. I thought that the reward for being summoned was to gain humanity though, so I don't get why you need to be human in order to be summoned? Did it work the same way in DS1? I thought you could be summoned there but needed to be human in order to summon. You have to be human to do both now?

You need to be human in order to summon, you can be summoned when hollow.

I think I've pretty much cleared out Forest of Fallen Giants now, and beaten Last Giant and Pursuer. Where should I head next?

I put 100+ hours into DS1 but I feel like I'm making pretty slow progress in this, my skills don't seem to have transferred. And I hate what they've done to parries!

Flipping heck man. It's as you thought. I obviously failed at explaining that!

You can only see summon signs when human. That is you can only summon help while human.

You can place summon signs (ie BE summoned to help) whatever state you're in. Though, if you are human and put down your sign, it'll stop other people's signs appearing. Presumably to prevent the game getting confused when you summon someone and you then get summoned yourself.

Well if you poke around after Pursuer you'll find the way to another area. Likewise of you had back to majula there's another way you've yet to find..

I've finished most of the bosses by whimpering in the corner while the big boys do all the work

I did one boss doing gestures in the corner whilst the 2 summoned folk did the hard work. They probably thought I was a right tosser

I do love doing coop for the bosses, it's easy but a ton of fun. Well coop in general is a lot of fun, love helping people out. Only problem is I'm worried about doing too much coop because of that soul memory shit :(

Oh for fuck's sake, I've been an idiot - I need to put down a sign to be summoned when I was looking for a sign that people had put indicating they wanted help. Which is never how it's worked  So I need to get the soapstone first whatever before I can do that.

I've got so many effigies in NG+ now; shows I must have been popping them like candy the first time around.

Getting summoned a lot and quickly too. Still getting no invasions and was only invaded twice in the previous run.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

Beat the Belfrey Gargoyles, but as I ran through the Belfrey to get there to avoid grey invasions, little dude followed me out and sniped me as the mist cleared.

Then on the way back a grey invader killed me.

30k souls gone :(
