Mass Effect Andromeda

Recommended Posts

Although Javik was Day One DLC, so was probably simply cut from the final game so as to enable EA to make more money.

Zaeed (ME2) was the same, IIRC.

I think that Kasumi (ME2) came after launch, but like Zaeed and Javik there was an obvious space for her from the beginning - none of them were retrofitted in.

Does Andromeda have any obvious gaps in the squadmate roster?

Not really, though there was talk of a salarian teammate who was dropped from the final roster.

Speaking of salarians, oh man - I am stuck on what can only be described as a peak salarian mission. I'm so confused and conflicted I genuinely have no idea which way to turn. Bloody Tinker, Techie, Soldier, STG shit. This could backfire horribly...yet once again I shall use Cap'n Picard as my guide. Sod it.

Then again, what if...arrrrrrg.

I don't think this was included in the patch notes:

Among other things, this patch reduces the frequency of common "interruptors" such as SAM's hazard updates.

"Hunting the Archon" done

Chose the Krogan. I didn't want to fight more of those ExhaltedKrogan, the Salaran's might already be dead/turned and the Pathfinder (while I like her) will easily be replaced based on the others I've seen

:P

Generally was a little shit to the Archon with Sassy talk. Liked the interactions with Archon too. Very different from your first face to face with Sovereign, but effective in a different way

Primus is totally going to turn on him...

Running about moping up character quests that popped up as I'd done a main mission before advancing further...Gil is getting on my tits.

STOP GOING ON ABOUT KIDS.

Who the fuck says 5 seconds before meeting a friend "Oh are we friends or you "my guy". Put me on the spot why don't you. I don't want to be "your guy" right now, but closing off options as friends is horrid. Where's the hedge your bet option? Oh there isn't one because Gil choose to put you on the spot.

People need to stop picking on that grimace animation as Sara sits up. There is nothing wrong with it.

However, during the main story mission I did last night, Scott was gurning like he'd just done several lines of coke. I wish I'd recorded it, because it looked hilarious - for all the wrong reasons.

Yeh if anything I was disappointed when I saw it in the game. Same with the other meme which is a close up of her face. But I got to admit that dude of the motion capture vid is funny.

I tried the multiplayer very briefly yesterday, had not quite figured out the bronze / silver / gold to begin with so was getting kicked out of gold sessions aha :D But anyway's can you team up with this or can you only play them as drop in sessions?

You can go in as a group.

Matchmaking is a bit broken if you go in as a 2 though (takes AGES to fill the other slots - just start as duo and hope others turn up).

In 3 you get quick MM though.

You can get some idiots who are level 1 and ungeared going into golds :P

Connection can matter though as it's hosted by a player

I was one of those but that was more because I had closed off the tutorial (not intentionally) so I kinda thought to hell with it I'll dive right in.

There's multiplayer?

I've actually been using the Apex app quite a bit to send teams on missions.

Yeah you do those missions yourself ^_^ Good fun, but still getting my head round how it all works, will have to do the tutorials when I get some time free. Back to the single player this evening though :D

If you enjoy the combat, multiplayer in this is excellent - for those that haven't tried it yet, you really should.  It's essentially a 7-wave horde mode with added objectives (deactivate devices, eliminate specific targets, defend a single/multiple points) and a randomised unlock system. Bronze rapidly becomes a cakewalk, and Silver is about right for me at the moment with a bunch of equipment upgrades unlocked. Lots of different classes to try too.

Multiplayer, is not without issues at the moment however - if you go in as a duo, matchmaking seems broken in the lobby, though people seem to join mid-game ok (and works fine with 1 or 3 people in a party). It's also highly dependant on the connection of the host, so if you see Weird Shit with enemies glitching around etc that's the cause, and I've had the game crash to the PS4 dash a few times, which I also suspect is a connectivity issue, and annoying when you're on a later wave, or have used consumables. I believe the upcoming patch is intended to remedy this however.

That aside, it's fantastic, to the point that it has totally stalled my campaign progress.

I think I might like Ryder more than Shepherd...

Think I'm leaning that way myself, what with the abolition of Paragon / Renegade quotas to fill. Just taken a brief moment to flip through the menu screens... so many alerts and info-dumps that I've totally ignored on my path through the cosmos! Just finished Liam's loyalty mission and it was a right party popper! According to my Crew Like No Other update, FemRyder and Liam "have been through a lot together". Oh really? It's been some seventy-eight hours now, and I've teamed up with Liam on approximately two occasions... long before I knew I could change up the away team roster. D'oh.

Anybody else playing on Insanity difficulty? That might account for a good eight hours of my time in the vaults... horrible places to venture where all you're doing is drilling down into the coalface of despair. Well, would do until I switched up my profile to Recon Specialist (currently level 29). Having invested points in Tech and Combat exclusively - nil for Biotics - it was almost the death of me when up against the Kett Cardinal, my first 'real' boss. With only Assault and Sniper rifles to my name, it was a thankless grind until something WONDERFUL happened... the gods of game balance decided to 'gimme' a victory, and Kett Cardinal seemed to fall on his own glitchy sword! I was cowering behind some barriers after chipping away at that accursed Orb which recharges his shield when out of nowhere I seemingly defeated him; got the prompt to speak to Moshae (after which I was swiftly bum-rushed into the next mob ambush). Happy days! :D

But the long and winding road through this outpost and that has been BioWare Prime. You can be up to your neck in obligatory peacekeeping duties, when suddenly there's a distress call from Nexus... someone's hijacked a bunch of ZK Tracker satellites and there's more foulplay afoot! Oh really? Let's have at it... another tasty trail of crumbs! :D

Anybody else followed through with PeeBee's research project? It turns out her "Poc" (Proof of Concept) sidekick is quite the boon to battles. After reconstructing it, and getting a thorough defensive buff, it could be the reason I'm rushing headlong into danger - and finally getting the hang of combat. It hasn't been an easy ride for my pathfinder - what with the dialled-up difficulty setting - but it's been a hell of a lot more tolerable since they fixed those loading times (playing on Xbox). From an execrable TWO OR THREE MINUTES down to ten seconds or less... that's some superb patching right there! Speaking of patches, they're planning to improve character creation? Er, how will that work?

For better or worse, I'm thoroughly invested in the one I'm with... unless they plan to crowbar a cosmetic surgeon into the storyline, it's kind of pointless at this stage. Nevertheless, some seventy-eight hours ago, I could've sworn Andromeda was the ugly duckling of the BioWare family, but now it's unquestionably turned into a Deep Space Swan. D'aww!

My FemShepard was a Renegadee badass, not exactly easy to like but she was pretty damn awesome, full of confidence, bullets and right hooks, FemRyder has been a slightly unsure, cocky and lighthearted scamp, FemRyder is way more likeable but I'm not sure about better, definitely different.

82 hours, and 87% complete. I was right about ending it with Movie night. :)

I'll type more tomorrow. But yeah, loved that.

Still preferred ME2's final encounter, but this is a close second.

Spoiler

Whaaa? Driving the Nomad full pelt through a Dyson Sphere while ships explode around you, and then fighting Remnant, an architect and Kett along with your whole group of companions, plus the people you've helped throughout your mission isn't as good as shooting a giant robot fetus? :P

I loved the impact of the ME2 ending and all the permutations of what could happen but ME:A has a proper, bombastic all guns blazing 80s action movie ending. It's great.

Oooh I've discovered some very interesting side quests now! 2 days off from the game and I'm rejuvenated.

44 hours in, level 34. I can't remember my % complete. I don't think I've ever seen it or noticed it.

Does anyone know if there is a level cap?

2 Power Augs dropped the other night. Can upgrade weapons to support biotics now.

I never fire a gun now. Lance is just ridiculous. Specced for damage/weakpoints it takes out a bosses orb in 2 hits....

Your saved game list will show your %. The level cap is, I believe, 80.

I'll have a check!

Also, the patch is due today. Will be interested to see how that goes!

How did everyone play it? Clean up a planet and move on or just focus on the main mission and crew missions? I'm at a stage where I think there's just a bit too much busy work and want to not bother with a lot of stuff. But then my OCD of accepting every mission and doing every one takes over!

Really wish I could have more skill spells too, I'm not too fond of the profiles if I'm honest. Feels like all bar the main profile is gimped in some way. Do miss telling when my squad mates to use spells too.

I just try to mix it up - for example haven't been back to the Nexus for yonks.  Return to ship to craft (level 40 upcoming), or redeploy strike teams.

First 4 planets are at 100% now but only 2 personal quests done (lots of finger wagging against Liam who is a real dofuss).

I went back to Eos, whipped the architect and then found the map extends to the NW.  Only 5% of XBO gamers have figured how to get the long jump achievement  but that is a good area to do it in.

You can at least command them to attack a specific target. That way, when you set a combo up, your teammates should take advantage of it.

And at first I was concentrating on one planet at a time. Don't! Do the story missions when they become available.

Yeah, I do use that function but they seem to use their ability at the beginning of a fight annoyingly. Basically they use the bloody things on cooldown!

I'll have to try stop doing all the side missions then, focus on the more main story mission and loyalty missions from now I think. Well maybe when I've got my third planet to 100% viability ;)

@Captain LeChuck how did you feel about the

Spoiler

DANGER DANGER, DON't COME TO US! Quarian Ark reveal. Whet your appetite for some DLC or shameless exclusion from the main game?

I think I may have done something wrong on mine. Every time I looked at Liam's LM, it was on hold for a new colony or something (I confess I never really paid it much attention) and then boom, the quest has vanished from my log. I assume I went past the point of no return with it but I'm a bit sad I never got to finish them all (his is the only one I didn't do).
