Yeah? Nothing has changed. Games bought now won't count. You have to generate your codes and make a note of them by the 31st March 2015. Then you have to redeem them by the 30th June 2015.

Ah okay, I thought they ended in March.

What's wrong with the sales they have - I picked up Stick It To The Man for under £4 yesterday, and I see that MH3U is down to half price today. And Shovel Knight is £8:99. Almost every ubisoft game has something off at the moment as well - ZombiU is just £7:99, and Blacklist is about £7 for example.

Shovel Kniggits is £8.66 ;)

Spending money on exclusives is something Nintendo wouldn't risk doing because the games probably wouldn't sell. Even if they have the rumoured massive scrooge mcduck style dungeons full of money that they made with the Wii and the DS.

And yet despite this they have the best truly exclusive third party game on the market.

I don't think the problem is they don't have any exclusives, the problem is that they don't have any of the multiplatform stuff.

Mainly the first party stuff - like calling NSMBU+Luigi for 50 quid a bargain.

Surely it sold more than 200k? Not the most reliable source but Wikipedia says it sold 130k in the US in the week of its release. Can't find verification of that in the Joystiq review the cite as their source, though.

It would still be interesting to know how much money they spent making the game. I suppose all the second and first party developers get to benefit from the profit made by all the Mario and Pokemon games.

Whereas a third party developer has everything to lose.

Gaming as a whole is turning to shit these days. I say that meaning just for me of course, others may like where it's going but not me. If the wii u is Nintendo's last console then I think it'll be mine too. That's fine though, the games I have will last for years and the virtual console snes stuff only adds to that. I'll be interested to see where they go next but I'm not too bothered by a lot of modern gaming if I'm honest with myself. It's all broken fps games, be they shooters or RPGs.

Thinking the same thing the other day. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded LOL. Then I had a quick poke about on PSN store and realised the games that offered innovation and fun are now found in Indy titles. So really quite like the way things are going its ultimately offering much more choice of games to play. Sure AAA big budget games will get ever more generic because they need to appeal to the mass markets to recoup the costs.

This is happening with Nintendo too with the eStore and the variety of games on offer there at all sorts of price points.

What I do wish would happen in gaming though is MS and Sony join forces together. Make a standard platform. Hell PS4 and XBO are virtually the same machines under the hood in terms of hardware. They could both make a ton more money as Sony have media , MS software expertise, Sony hardware expertise both have a lot of second party studios. Everyone could play online together without having to choose a format over another to play together. Anyway... we may get there eventually I expect the war between Sony and MS will eventually come to a head AAA will get too expensive to develop and it will just make sense to pool resources and share profits.

Of course there is the mythical steambox on the horizon.... at some point... maybe.... will it release with Half Life 3....

Im in the same boat. As a 28 year old with a 4 month old child my gaming time is now about twenty minutes a day,but im starting to think even those twenty minutes are wasted time lately.

It would be a very sad day to see nintendo bail out, but if they did it would be their own stupid decisions that made it that way.

Yeah same happened to me.

Don't think Nintendo will bail out they will just keep adapting to the market like they have always done. They will always have an audience for their unique games.

However the problem is the market is changing faster than ever kids who once had Nintendo handhelds are now using mobile phones or tablets. To some degree I think console gaming in general is at risk long term to tablets and phones.

Way I see is gaming will be ultimately turn into a streamed service over the nets... really think the current gen of machines are the last where you'll be buying disks. Just hoping all the games I buy now will work on future devices somehow from MS and Sony. Loved the fact I can play my old Wii games on the U. Also like the fact all my steam games continue to work on PCs.

No way I'm willing to throw away all my content again when the NG consoles arrive again. In fact if they don't play what I have not interested. Had plenty of digital content I wanted to continue to use on XBO and PS3 from last gen that I have simply lost. Unless I keep an old piece of hardware kicking about.

Saying all that I'm slowly coming to the conclusion my gaming days are slowly coming to an end... although VR could rekindle the interest... :)

I still play snes games on the virtual console and I can easily see me still playing wii u games in 20 years. They have that nintendo longevity because they're so simple and pure at their core. That'll do me, I don't need the hassle of ps4 or bone, it's a constant hassle of issues that I can't be bothered to keep up with the workarounds for.

Agree. Think this is it the games are simple to pick up and play but have a lot of depth and ingeniously cunning game design that is sometimes overlooked by people because of the graphic design. (ie not trying to go for realism).

I tried plugging in my iphone earphones into the gamepad (like I do with my PS4) but it doesn't fit. Done a little research and it seems people only use headsets with this input? I don't care about Mic, just want some ok audio device to listen to games in private. Any suggestions?

Christ, the wife and I can't play 3D World together. It's caused one too many tiffs this evening. It's so much more difficult in co-op than the single player! The culmination tonight was her slamming the controller down and storming off in a huff earlier, calling me a patronising twat after I'd offered to carry her across a level where we'd both unwittingly killed each other a bunch of times. And to think, I thought I was just being chivalrous!

I think I'll just make her a separate save file...

That's hilarious. It's a real sticky wicket, I love the nintendo games and what they stand for, I love that the wii u boots up in seconds and your playing, but when you see games like mgs5 or witches 3 in motion it's clear how much grunt it's missing.

Nintendo should blow the budget if they make a new machine, knowing the hardcore will buy it. A console as powerful as sonys but in Nintendo hands would be terrifying. And allow ports to be easily done. Sack off the game pad and focus on pure gaming.

I've got Bayo2, SSB, Hyrule Warriors and MK8 and haven't used the gamepad thingy for any of them.

I can see the concept between integrating mobile gaming and consoles but can you actually play games when out and about on it like with a Vita? I tried continuing a game in another room and even that disconnected. I can't even figure out how to turn it off completely when I'm using the pro-controller unless I let the battery run-down.

It's a cumbersome piece of tech that's not properly integrated and has no obvious advantages. The complete opposite of the Wiimote.

The off-screen play is pretty good and used often here when my kids want to play while the tv is on another channel. But apart from that it's indeed pretty useless and a gamble that didn't pay off at the expense of a more capable machine. It's still miles ahead of the Wiimote though, as that controller and the whole philosophy surrounding it was just unmitigated rubbish.

Starfox sounds like the only talked about thing which is going to attempt to do any major two screen stuff beyond off screen play.

i hope it's not something they forget about for their next console. Off screen play is brilliant and at the very least I want an optional controller/handheld I can use as a controller. It's a constant disappointment to me that Vita remote play is mostly shit as that's almost a perfect solution to it.

I'm sure if the Vita only did remote play within a few feet of the PS4 it'd work better, two similar yet at the same time totally different solutions really.
