Nintendo Wii U

You said the same thing about the ps4 when you got an xbox!

Nah. Preferred the games on the Xbox when I got that to the PS4 (still do this far at least).

Nintendo just do things much differently to the other two.

If Nintendo ever drop out of the hardware market it will be a shame the experience of their hardware and software is pretty unique... :)

I was only supposed to be buying one console this gen too... arrrrrggghhhhh. Good grief.

I wasn't going to buy any this gen, at least not for a while. Between Jan and Dec I've ended up with all three (two were bought for me, to be fair) and I love them all, but you're right about Nintendo consoles, particularly around this time of year

:) Would have loved to have had a full Zelda adventure on the Wii U perfect gaming Christmas.

Yeah almost feel gluttonous having all three consoles given the amount of time I can actually spend playing games these days. :(. If I had to keep just one though not sure which one it would be. :-/.

In the end I guess its great having the choice. Was tentatively thinking about moving the PS4 on but there will be some great games coming to it this year that I will want to play....

Purchased a wii u for xmas and been having a right blast on it. It has impressed me a lot more than the PS4 ever has which has been gathering dust atm.

As for the system, lovely and the game pad display is a lot better than I thought I would be and comes in handy when the kids or me want a quick blast on something whilst someone else is watching something on tv.

Been playing a lot of mario kart which is hands down one of the best looking games I've ever seen and has impressed me more than anything I witnessed on PS4. The art style, background animation, lighting and 60fps just make it one beautiful game to look at. Haven't enjoyed a mario kart this much since my N64 days.

Tried Nintendoland which is a suprise hit with the kids and had a great laugh with the luigi mansion mini game and zelda one.

Also been playing abit of Mario 3D world which is sublime and a master class how platformers should be done.

Having a blast with the wii U upto yet and can't fault it when it comes to playing either by yourself or if you have a few people round you, it really does come into its own.

Really does take you on a trip down memory lane and make you remember what made you fall in love with gaming in the first place (and no it wasn't realism and violence)

59fps. Can't you count? *pushes glasses up nose*

Finally got a copy of Hyrule Wariors from Marble Arch Argos. I'd forgotten what Argos was like, queued up for twenty minutes and then got put into a sub-queue. It's the retail equivalent of a refugee camp.

Theres a way easier method you can use. Register with their site and switch on one click buying. They'll txt you a reservation number and you can then pop into the store, pay for it at a kiosk / terminal thingy, go grab it from the collection desk and you'll be out of there in a couple of minutes :).

YAY!! :D

Picked up the Wii U and got Fifa and Mass Effect thrown in for free from the Argos website. Simply reserved on the website and got the item within about five minutes of going in store, really good experience actually, will certainly do it again in future.

I went into Game and they had Windwaker pre owned so I picked that up. I only went in because I had a voucher given to me at crimbo, can't stand the place. I've taken the game home and there isn't a manual with it, wouldn't mind if I was told but it's typical Game really. Not all that bothered but it's the principal I guess.

I was at the Merry Hill centre so went to Game, Argos, CEX and HMV. The lack of Wii U games on shelves is really alarming, I know it's already been stated many times but it's pretty annoying really. CEX had 1 Wii U games which was Bayonetta, nothing else whatsoever. Game had a few of the newer ones but were obviously stating crazy prices and Argos were pretty much out of stock on the majority of titles advertised. I probably don't need to mention HMV, why do they even bother having Wii U games for sale?

Couldn't find a copy of Lego City Undercover anywhere. :(

Good times ahead though! :D

It's a bit worrying that a recent ish console has such little retail support. I heard today that dk wii u sold 200k copy's. An appalling amount really for such quality.

I genuinely think nintendos next console will make or break their future. The lack of third party seems to be drastically effecting sales, as does their shite naming policy.

How are Nintendo doing financially? Would they be able to afford to strike an exclusive deal with a couple of biggish third party companies?

Spending money on exclusives is something Nintendo wouldn't risk doing because the games probably wouldn't sell. Even if they have the rumoured massive scrooge mcduck style dungeons full of money that they made with the Wii and the DS.

Frankly I think selling a by the numbers cartoony 2D platformer full price just isn't going to work anymore - unless your brand is REALLY strong, like NSMB. Rayman had pretty much the same fate, although that picked up when it got discounted and shifted enough for at least 1 sequel. I'd love to get DK if it was 20 quid or so, but paying 40 notes? No way.

How much does a game like Tropical Freeze cost to make? Do Nintendo/Retro actually make the money back when they sell 200k.

Surely it sold more than 200k? Not the most reliable source but Wikipedia says it sold 130k in the US in the week of its release. Can't find verification of that in the Joystiq review the cite as their source, though.

Totally agree. Nintendo need to accept times have changed, if they sold a nsmb bundle for 25 quid online it would sell like hot cakes, same with monster hunter etc but they seem stubborn.

Having bought most of my wii u games in the last week for 30 quid a pop, it's a very expensive hobby, especially when sony offer ps plus and have actual game sales now and again.

Playing online is also very difficult on wii u, to play smash bros you have to first both be on, second both play smash and third they have to see that you made a lobby and join. In 2015 it's barmy.

Re dk sales, I heard it on YouTube so your probably more correct than I. I know it sold poorly

What I find weird is that when times were a bit harder, they were giving away high profile games free left, right and center. And now there's a bit of a userbase - I presume, they immediately revert to their stingy, cheap old selves again. A proper eShop sale with good deals would no doubt result in a far higher turnover than this crap.

How much would you pay for full access to all Nintendo games?

I really think they needed to get people like us subscribing to a games service. They could have a basic level entry, say £3 a month for selected titles, then have add-ons like access to SNES games. Or a deluxe £40 a month access to everything.

They might not have the userbase, but they'd be getting regular subscription monies. I think it's a nobrainer, retail have already abandoned them, they are in perfect position to exploit their huge back catalogue.

Why not? There are people on here that spend more than that a month on games, and I bet most of us pay £20+ for tv/film services.

£40 a month for access to all Nintendo content doesn't seem too high to me. Albeit I wouldn't pay it, because I couldn't justify it. But a £3 a month option for limited access would appeal to me.

What's wrong with the sales they have - I picked up Stick It To The Man for under £4 yesterday, and I see that MH3U is down to half price today. And Shovel Knight is £8:99. Almost every ubisoft game has something off at the moment as well - ZombiU is just £7:99, and Blacklist is about £7 for example.

Yeah? Nothing has changed. Games bought now won't count. You have to generate your codes and make a note of them by the 31st March 2015. Then you have to redeem them by the 30th June 2015.
