Nintendo Wii U

I believe I have now reached my Wii U software nirvana:

NSMB U

Mario 3D World

Zelda WW HD

Pikmin 3

Bayonetta 1 + 2

Mario Kart 8

Hyrule Warriors

Capital Toad Treasure Tracker

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze

Super Smash Bros

(also own other ok stuff like Nintendoland, Zombii U but they haven't really impressed me massively yet)

The Wii for all its success and support was such a massive disappointment in comparison to that insane library above (with Zelda and Mario Maker still coming) and I honestly thought I was just bored of Nintendo games. So wrong - the Wii U brought back alive the Nintendo MAGIC for their console library.

I believe Nintendo always need to be doing a little bit shitty commercially for them to shine. They were behind on the N64 and Gamecube too and look at they gold they put out then. Make sure to not recommend the Wii U to your friends! We need to keep these guys the underdogs!

Now - all I need is the Mario Kart 8 DLC and NSMB Luigi U (why can't I find this on the e-shop? Do I need to go through the NSMB menu? How much does it cost?)

Captain Toad is 26 quid delivered right now at the game collection if you don't mind waiting until next week.

Brilliant spot, cheers! :hat:

I've done well this Christmas, Wii U-wise. My mum got me 3D World (which I asked for) and my sister got me Wonderful 101, which was a total surprise. She asked a Nintendo fanboy in her uni class for a Wii U recommendation, and that's what he suggested. Shout out to that guy.

I now have a wiiU, some questions if anyone would be as so kind to help;

1) What's the best way of recharging wiimotes these days? Also the gamepad?

2) Is there a way to only see mii's that are friends? I keep seeing random mii's everywhere.

3) Generally, can you really just plug in an external HD with power source and you can easily manage extra games or is it more tricky than that?

4) Is there really no ethernet connection?

5) Do people really bother with Nintendo points? I just downloaded a full price game from eshop, should I be getting points? Don't I have to register the game or something? Can you only see your points on the club nintendo website?

6) Is there anything worth checking out on the Nintendo TV channel? or just videos on titles you're generally interested in?

One of the biggest surprises is that the quality of videos and availability of playing trailers is much better than that of the PS4.

1) I use the official Nintendo one. It's overpriced, but pretty good.

2) Nope. It's meant to be what's trending.

3) Yep. Once you plug the HDD in and format it, the Wii U just automatically uses it for everything.

4) There's a USB adaptor for it.

5) It's pretty pointless these days.

6) It doesn't work in Europe.

If I buy the Basic console am I really missing out on much?

Not really, although I'm biased because I have a Basic myself - 8GB vs 32GB really means fuck all when it comes to spending on Digital Downloads, the cradle sounds nice but not really required (the gamepad is either in my hands, or wherever the charger is anyway), and the Premium eShop promotion has pretty much ran out, if it hasn't already.

If you're jonesing for a black console/gamepad though, then you have to go Premium. Otherwise, just buy the best Basic bundle you can get your mitts on and then buy an external HD later on if you really must go digital somewhere down the line.

Wii U is the saviour of christmas 2014. Really glad I bought one.

Very much enjoying Hyrule Warriors, my first game of that type, I think "frantic, strategic battlefield management" is a better description than "button masher". Not only that but lieutenants and bosses require more timing and decision making than you might think.

Oh 'Mukkers, I don't know what to do.

My Wii U was acting up saying that the discs were dirty/ damaged - it went back to Nintendo and went up in smoke in the fire at the repair depot.

Brilliantly they got a new machine to me for Christmas Eve and restored my id - had to redownload loads of updates, software I'd bought off the e-shop (and I've realised that I didn't back up my Wii saves, so I've lost some bloody priceless gaming time there...)

Anyway, had a couple of issues of bad updates downloading which needed deleting off, which I've done then redownloaded.

So far I've played a bit of Lego Marvel Superheroes this morning, then tonight I've fired up Mario Kart. It told me the update was corrupted, needed deleting and redownloading...so set it to do that while I carried on playing. For some reason, despite copying over my save data and having the free dlc stuff, it didn't show any characters/ upgrades/ cars/ courses that I'd unlocked, but still showed my tally of achievement stamps. Not wanting to carry on playing if my original save could be restored with the update reinstalled, I went back to the main menu and installed the update.

When I tried Mario Kart again it got stuck on the Mario Kart 8 logo on black with the revving noises. I could switch the gamepad off, but when switched back on it would go to the same page. Couldn't return to the menu with it, couldn't turn off the machine at the power button so had to hard reset it by yanking out the power cable. Tried it again and still had the same issue.

So I figured I'd go back to Super Mario World 3D, which is another game which had a dirty/ damaged disc issue (despite the game being brand new in box, played twice, no marks on the disc) It went through to the world map, where it immediately said the disc was dirty/ damaged. I took out the disc, wiped the minor fingerprints on one edge of the disc, it started to read it, then still said it was dirty/ damaged.

I'm guessing I should try out the other game that I had an issue with (Sonic Racing Transformed) but I'm flummoxed as to why this is happening to my machine? Could it be some sort of interference from another machine - it's next to a PS3? It does feel hot, but there is ventilated space around it so I don't think that's an issue. And, well, I've had this machine two days and it was on a little bit over the last two evenings where I've run the updates - hardly suffering from Christmas burn out.

Is it possible my replacement machine has the same fault? Really don't know what to do and really gutted that I still have this issue - it's been since August/ September where I've been reluctant to play my Wii U should a game start failing to work.

:(
