Does the official snes style wii controller work with wii u virtual console games? Saw a Japanese one boxed for about 20 pounds earlier, although considering where I saw it I wouldn't be sure that's even a good price. Do they feel exactly like a proper snes controller? I have a third party pc controller that looks just like a snes controller but feels like crap to use.

It works. Haven't held an actual SNES controller in ages, so I can't tell how it compares. I don't have any problems with mine though.

'Mukers I need your help, I got an awesome Wii U for Christmas and I'm stuck in a set-up loop, it asks for my Ninty Network ID (which I have from 3DS) but after giving it those details it tells me I need to update the system from system settings but it boots me back around to entering my Ninty Network ID, I can't progress :(

I bought smash bros yesterday, have been 3 player button mashing it - i have no idea at all what you are supposed to do!

I was in the same boat!

Firstly, watch the post Start Screen movie that explains the moves. You have an attack and a special button which, when combined with a direction, have different moves. When you simultaneously press Direction + Attack you perform a more powerful Smash move which can be used to launch your opponent off screen and KO them (these can also be charged). This becomes easier as their damage gets closer to or exceeds 100%.

I'd recommend picking Link to as he's great for starters and learning his move set in training for 5 minutes or so and the differences between regular, special and Smash attacks. Then, with some differences of course, you'll be able to understand how the other characters play.

What's this madness about SM3DW? It's wonderful and easily the best game on Wii U.

That would be MK8.

I think a large part of the love for 3D World is SNES SMW nostalgia. Which is fine, but after the splendour of Galaxy it was more like "WTF is this shit?" for me.

My mate did play it in two player with his 7 year old daughter when he was visiting though, and they loved it.

SM3DWorld has a lot of Galaxy's magic, just in more traditional looking levels and with an added emphasis on multiplayer.

If you focus on the platforming, you'll love it just as much as Galaxy.

When it comes to level design and wtf-factor, Galaxy wins but I still think I prefer 3D World because it dropped the waggle and is much better to play because of it.

I think that for a casual, bordering on not really a fan of Mario games generally, player like me, Galaxy was the most exciting, visually explosive take on the Mario 64 style of Mario game there's ever been. It's still jaw dropping, and the gravity stuff was just magical.

Mario 3D world is more "remember all those 2D Mario games, esp SMW? This is a modern update of those", which is probably nirvana for most people, but not for me. There's no great mystery here, it's just not something that was ever going to float my boat.

How is it possible to think 'WTF is this shite' when playing SM3DW?????

I can't understand that brain

It's simple really. It's a big drop from "Wheee! I'm flying through space! Now I'm upside down! Zooooom! Teh graphics! Teh planets!" to "Oh joy. I'm going from left to right and jumping. And now I'm in a furry cat suit".

It felt like a backwards step to me, deliberately so perhaps.

I freely admit that I don't get/missed the 2D platforming era though, so it's hardly surprising I wasn't impressed.
