There wasn't anything seriously wrong with rgraves post. So what if he's a fanboy? How was he to know you weren't aware of those games? You were the one asking all the questions and getting lots of constructive replies.

On ZombiU. It looks shit to me. How wrong am I on a scale of 1 - 10?

Its not shit, not at all. I didn't find it much 'fun', mainly because it was so unnerving.

It does the whole zombie thing better than any other videogame I've played.

I'd say around 8.

It's not for everyone, as it's quite punishing and slow paced. But if you get into it you'll enjoy one of the best survival horror games since the original Resi's.

In the interests of talking about something, anything, else in this thread - I'd say 9. I absolutely loved it (surprise surprise some may say ;)). YMMV though, because it's not perfect by any means, and you can tell it was made for launch, but it absolutely nails the atmosphere and is a bit different.

It's cheap as chips to pick up now, both physical and on the eShop (£7:99 on sale from Thursday).

Zombiu has some brilliant ideas wrapped up in some rubbish ones. Use of the gamepad? Brilliant (best showcase for it I've seen). Multiple survivors? Brilliant. London setting? Brilliant. Zombies as an actual, formidable threat? Brilliant. Tension and atmosphere? Top notch. But the melee combat isn't great, and the game relies on it too much in an effort to create tension and make you feel vulnerable; you don't really get to see much of London so it wastes the setting a little bit and it has some borderline unfair difficulty spikes. These are minor quibbles in what is otherwise a great game deserving of everyone's attention; such a shame the yanks didn't 'get' it, it reviewed poorly stateside and lost all chance of a sequel.

Reviews seemed a bit mixed at first glance.

It's really cheap now though so I guess it wouldn't matter anyway.

The reviews were almost completely split when it came to the US versus everyone else. It was quite clear the Americans just didn't really click with the game, whereas everywhere else did. Whether it was the pace, the setting, the mechanics I can't say for sure, but whatever it was it put the yanks right off. That it won't get a chance to improve on the few flaws it had in a sequel when we get iteration after iteration of assassin's creed and cod is one of the crimes of this gaming generation.

And you didn't say those were the only games you were interested in, you said there was so little available, listed those games and said there was nothing else, which isn't true, there are lots of games which a couple of people, including rgraves, pointed out to you, on the assumption as you may not have known of their existence (case in point: tropical freeze). If you'd have put 'so little available that I am interested in', it would have been clear that was what you meant but you didn't, so it wasn't.

Well that's what I meant. Also whilst I'm not up to date on every title, I am a gamer and of course I know that the WiiU has more titles than what I listed. Come on dude, how could you think I would think that? Obviously not man.

The short list should indicate that I'm talking about select titles. I said so little I could buy. Maybe this is a lesson in not jumping down my throat instantly?

I think people in here are just primed to fend off criticism or whatever which is a shame. I actually came by to talk about getting a WiiU at some point so this all very silly. It's obvious some read it different but my first post was actually expressing a sympathetic kind of disappointment with Nintendo, because they've got all their fundamentals right but these oddities and problems. Confused strategies and odd approaches.

Don't you sense that in the post? "come on Ninty". I was actually thinking tonight how sad it would be without any Nintendo. I'd like them to survive.

A world without Nintendo would be like a world without Christmas.

Do you own a ps4 or Xbox? Or a decent enough PC to play the big games on? If you do, a Wii u is the perfect accompaniment. If you don't, you might find yourself bored in quick order and pining for something else. My Wii u is my console of choice when I'm tired of violent, gritty, realistic games and I just want to play stuff that reminds me of why I got into gaming 20 years ago. You are absolutely correct about the quality of the core games. Nintendo are unmatched in that regard. But if I only owned a Wii u? I'd soon be hankering for the latest murder simulator or grimdark fantasy epic.

The Wii u might not be the most powerful, or have the best support, but my god, when you turn that little console on, man, you can't help but smile. And Uzi nailed it when he mentioned about the off screen gamepad play being the refuge of "married men"; that particular innovation is the best thing about the console for me.

Dude, I just wanted to talk about the console and the games.

You were literally seeing my working out my thought process. I was looking up stuff.

So there's this excitement and interest tempered by concern. I'd buy a bunch of those times but as I said to my taste whilst good there's some overlap - lots of platforming, core Mario/Zelda stuff. That stuff is great but it is what is and sometimes you'd want something else - Nintendo treatment but different flavour.

I guess it's more about varied second party titles. So again I go back to Metroid. I'm struggling recall Game cube titles out of the core stuff I liked. ReMake obviously. Someone remind me.

Anyway Zombie U is at least one example. I know, I know Bayo but whilst it's great it's not my thing at all. Pikmin 3 fits but it's still also in that Venn diagram.

I don't know. I'd like not to be too restricted. That's not an attack as such it's a desire to see more unique Nintendo exclusives from whatever party.

I got to champion's road in 3d world when it came out, tried to beat it without power ups for a while and then gave up. Recently I've been feeling the urge to replay it. Was quite pleased when I turned it on two days ago and noticed that each level now lists which character it has been completed as. Currently playing through the entire game as Luigi and enjoying it as much as I did last year ( am upto world 4) :)

I want to replay Wind Waker and NSMBU too, among others.

In a way the wii u's small, high quality library has encouraged me to spend more time with each title than I might have otherwise, which is a good thing.

I think there's a big difference in longevity between the good wii u games and most(not all) story based AAA games which I generally enjoy one 10-15 hour playthrough of and then never play again.

I think a lot of the "wii u doesn't have enough games" sentiment represents the feeling of people who are into the "play it once and then you're done" approach to gaming.

There may be a small number of games on the wii u but there is far more entertaining gameplay available than one employed adult would have time for.

That said, I haven't had time to get around to about half of the major releases and am afraid to even put Monster Hunter(picked it up for a couple of pounds) into the wii u.

My essentials list:

Mario 3D World

Mario Kart 8

Wind Waker HD - made in 2002 and still looks like one of the best looking games ever made. It is shockingly beautiful in HD.

Smash Bros

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze

NSMB U

Bayo 1+2 combo

Pikmin 3

Already that's an insanely high quality library without considering future releases

You forgot HYRULE WARRIORS.

Oh FFS - this is the love in thread. Piss off!

https://www.coolshop.co.uk/product/batman-arkham-origins/BJ34DM

£7 for Batman Origins any one?

I bought it when it was that much on the eShop. I liked it quite a lot. Yes, it isn't as good as Asylum and City (although I think I preferred it to City), but it's still a great game. Worth it just for the Bane fights.

Ids wonderful 101 amazing? Iv seen it in lots of top ten list, I thought the demo was shite but Iv ordered the full game as platinum have never let me down.

Secondly is it still worth buying monster hunter? Is it fairly active?

Every time I play Wonderful 101 I have a great time. The amount of energy the game builds as the levels go on is insane. It's a very exciting game.

They made a major mistake making the levels take so long to complete though. Any session with W101 has to be about an hour long. Considering the type of game it is, I think that was an awful design choice.

I know I would have played it more if it was better suited to shorter sessions.

Totally agree with this! I've pumped 30+ hours into many wii u games this year. I think Im on about 70 for Pikmin.

I dunno, man. You seen the size of the PC library?

Just for perhaps an alternative view, my experience with the WiiU has been:

Console itself - lovely

Controller - a Godsend

MK8 - sublime, worth the price of entry alone

ZombiU - utter shite, DO NOT TRUST THE RECOMMENDATIONS IN THIS THREAD SMITTY YOU WILL HATE IT

Mario World 3D - Not my bag and hugely overrated to boot. Huge backwards step from Galaxy

Pikmin 3 - Absolutely lovely, really must get back to it

RE: Revelations - Annoyingly awful, broken controls

Sadly there is nothing else out that interest me. I will be all over Zelda of course.

I do think that whilst folk in here are clearly enjoying the console, and its games, there is a tendency to overhype stuff. ZombiU for example, is just atrocious.
