Nintendo Wii U

It's surprising just how bloody stressfull Pikmin 3 is.. each is just not quite long enough, so it really encourages you to plan and split up. Maybe because I'm rubbish, but I was really starting to run out of food as well.

But there's nothing worse than fucking up with some bombs and watching about 50 pikmin all go up in smoke... so sad.

Anyone who has a WiiU needs this game, especially with the post release improvements they've made to it. There's also a great wee Christmas DLC level.

I thought it was just right until the big tree boss type thing, then it became too easy to fail unless you were doing things bang on point and ruined the laid back nature of the whole thing so I stopped playing.

The time limit is what I don't like about it so much. The game has a camera mode, for pity's sake! Don't give me that and then make me feel like I'm wasting precious time using it. I already know I'm wasting time in real life by playing Pikmin while Death is loping down the garden path, I don't need a reminder shoehorned into my coping mechanism.

Ideally I'd like a Pikmin game with a Doshin the Giant ethos.

Have you tried Pikmin 2?

Smash Bros is a constant train of disappointment for me. Couldn't buy it at release due to moving-related poverty, having intended to get the Gamecube adapter with it... so of course said adapter sold out at release. And now the game is the lowest in price it's likely to be for at least the next half year, and I can't buy it because I stuck it on my Christmas list so might be getting it.

Woe is me* :(

*unless I do end up getting it for Christmas of course, in which case I'll just be grumpy about having to wait until god know's when to be able to play it with more than two players (because I'm not sodding well shelling out for more Pro controllers when I have a clutch of Gamecube controllers waiting for a use)

Amazon France are letting you order the GC adapter (25 Euros delivered) and suggesting they'll deliver in 3 a 5 semaines. Worth a shot.

Not a bad shout, but I'd rather not order it at a (slightly) elevated price when they're advertising a 3 to 5 week lead time, which is Amazonese for "we're out of stock but hoping for new copies at some point in the future".

Got a Pro Controller in the post today from Nippon-Yasan. I like it - It's very comfortable, and the D-Pad is glorious. It's increased my MK8 skills by 8000%, so now I'm getting third place because of cheating fucking bastard 150cc AI now. So, uh, that's good. Also, it works with Nintendon't right off the bat, so now I have F-Zero GX on tap. That's also good.

Also, someone at Nintendo deserves a round of applause for all that TV Remote shit that's built into the Gamepad. I thought it would end up being some dumb gimmick when they first rolled out the idea when the console was announced, but it really is a godsend for peasants like myself who can't be bothered to pay for a Harmony remote that's half the price of their existing telly. There's something really, really convenient about starting the console up with the pad, booting up the game you want to play, and then switching your telly on all from one place. Likewise, finishing up from playing Mario, or starting a download from the eShop - I don't need to care any more about background downloads even if it does have them, I can just sit on my arse and switch over to the PC's HDMI Input and watch some shit on XBMC.

It's all very wonderful, and I haven't even taken the cellophane off of 3D World yet.

So, anybody posted this little video yet? Might as well be posted here as this the most general Nintendo thread I can think of.

Nintendo decided to drop in on a youtube series. Except rather than sending in Reggie, they send in Miyamoto to talk about games in 2015. Nothing new but really cute.

It's on Virtual Console and plays fine with the Gamepad, unless I'm missing something obvious here.

Yep, it is on Wii U virtual console. I think maybe they thought it was only on the old Wii VC. It can be played on the gamepad without messing around with old Wii controllers.

OH MAH GAAASH ITS SO CUUUUTE

why are women in nintendo ads so annoying

It's not a Nintendo ad. She's a high profile youtuber (who I had never heard of!) who's very popular with families apparently, something like 3 million subscribers. Just a smart tactic by Nintendo :)

Anyone without the best 2d mario game ever made, chop chop http://www.shopto.net/video-games/wiiu/WIIUNE01-new-super-mario-bros-u

Ooh, thanks for the link. If I pick this up does it also come with Super Luigi U, or is that available as an add on download? (and does it cost more?)

I picked up a Wii U for myself last week (along with the Bayonettas and Smash Bros) and I'm pleased to see that the old Nintendo magic seems to be back. Spent a good bit of time with the Pikmin 3 demo too and it's just wonderful (the first one was a favourite of mine on the GC).

My only gripe so far is the pro pad... By all accounts it's a lovely piece of kit (and no need to plug it into a Wiimote, like that was ever a good idea), but the position of the main face buttons is just wrong! My thumb naturally rests on X and A, rather than Y and B, so for example jumping I'm Bayonetta (on B) just feels wrong.

Still, minor complaint aside it's probably going to take a lot of willpower to not just start redirecting my salary straight to Nintendo's bank account...
