Nintendo Wii U

I'm in the same boat having owned the Wii U for almost a year, I've got a fair few games and they're undoubtedly very polished but I just don't really ever feel like playing them for some reason.

edit: Out of Rayman Legends, NSMBU, SM3D World, MK8, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Nintendoland, Wii Party U, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 I wouldn't say I've put much time into any of them bar MK8 and perhaps Nintendoland and NSMBU. I've not even played three of them beyond loading them up.

I'm in the same boat as well. I've found most of the first party titles largely disappointing, particularly 3DWorld. The WiiU is an occasional MK8 machine in my house, and now a bit of coop Rayman Legends with the missus. I only keep it as there's always a chance Nintendo might produce some magic down the road but I've no expectations at this point.

The games are still great, the only disappointing thing is how they've failed to grab me by the throat and make me want to play them through there and then. Maybe it's just because there's so many in general these days, there's more opportunity for distraction whereas that won't always have been the case.

Fair enough, too many games is an issue but it's a great issue for me, I love having a mountain of awesome games to plough through! I'll disagree on the WiiU game front though as I personally don't think they are great.

I just wish I'd played Skyward Sword before I bought a WiiU. Wouldn't saved me some money!

For what it is worth playing the wii u I have found the games are going to last me in the long run, 50+ hours on Hyrule, 60+ hours on smash, also have Rayman and 101. I'm sorted for a good couple of months and I still have Bayonetta and a tonne of other games to get my hands on too.

LttP is still a good game, by virtue of being Zelda, but it's overlong and just not that great compared to loads of other Zelda.

Overlong? So if they removed some dungeons it would be better?

Not liking it is fair enough, I'm not going to force you into liking something, but as it still stands today it's a masterclass in overworld and dungeon design. Imagine playing it in 1992/93, back then it blew my head clean off and pretty much solidified the medium as being a life-long hobby for me. Just as I thought I'd completed the game after collecting the Master Sword and raiding the palace the whole green and blue world gets transformed into brown and purple darkness and I have tons more shit to do.

I tested it on someone in my last job who had never played a Zelda game before, and it had the same effect on him. He was glued to it for two weeks.

This is exactly how I felt about lttp. It was a special moment in my gaming education.

Anyone who has Pikmin 3 but hasn't got into it, you need to go back and try the challenge mode. Try the very first fruit collecting one until you have a platinum medal. I was hooked and pumped 70+ hours into it.

The annoying thing with Pikmin is the controls never felt quite right... then they added the touchscreen control option and it's brilliant! All the precision of the wiimote option without having to use the wiimote. Yet it's fucking right hand only despite there being no reason for it not to work either way (unless they've since updated it), so again as a left handed writer it's not quite right

Yeah, but being left handed you're not quite right either.

I'm a bit right, but then true single handedness is fairly rare. Still makes zero sense as to why they couldn't flip the controls in that mode, you only need the stick and a shoulder button which is already perfectly mirrored with the pad layout :(

Demos that are under 1GB. Great for testing them out and they're generous too.

You've probably downloaded and played all the available demos already though, there's only a handful unfortunately. Man, what happened to the 360 age of demos, they sold me so many games.

Finally used that eshop card I won in that smash bros tournament. Was tempted by £20 Tekken Tag download but got Shovel Knight and Earthbound instead because I'll get more out of them. Also I'd rather own Tekken on disc than have a 16gb download.
