Speaking of the pro controller, where's the best place to pick one up? Got both Bayonettas arriving on Saturday. <3

Nippon-Yasan. It's about £23 with cheap bastard EMS Shipping. You could probably push the boat out in terms of courier and still come comfortably under the recommended retail price of OH MY FUCKING GOD DOES IT ACTUALLY COST THAT MUCH OVER HERE

The fuck...

When did you order yours? I got an email about a delay but nothing so far about a cancellation :(

If it helps, I ordered mine on the 27th, and I've only been told of a delay. I'm hoping it pulls through, considering the last time I ordered a Wii U Paypal chewed up my payment to ShopTo at the Bayo 2 Launch. Trust that when it comes to me finally wanting a new console, retailers just throw my money back in my face for wanting a Wii U.

The whole thing is a mess. Mine is still on order but some people have been told they won't be in stock this week while others have been told that it's gaurenteed for Friday.

They've told me that they have no idea when the orders are going out. Close to cancelling but the bundle is insanely good so I'm in limbo.

It better come before the xfactor final or I'll smash up my front room.

Thanks, great find! Ordered a white one and it's a tenner cheaper delivered from Japan than a freely delivered black one from Amazon.

If the 3-4 day shipping time's correct it'll be here by Saturday. I love EMS, God knows why they don't have it here.

I'm not gonna cancel but reading the posts on HUKD it doesn't sound promising. Problem now is there have been several other good value bundles which we've now missed, and as we speak we're a couple of weeks from Christmas and there's basically fuck all alternative. What a farce. :(

edit: ^^^^^ the black Pro Controller was a much more palatable £28 on Amazon the other day, I picked one up then for my now non-existent Wii U

My Pro controller has basically spent the last two years gathering dust except when my son uses it for multi player mario kart and Nintendoland , I mean it's nice and all that but I have yet to find anything that needed it. What is people's issue with that gamepad? I have yet to play a Wii U game where I don't prefer that game pad, it is a really great controller

Then again I preferred the duel shock 3 to the 360 pad so what do I know?

The Gamepad is big and heavy and thus uncomfortable if used for any large periods,* which is just as well because it has terrible battery life (even with the enhanced battery). The Pro controller is at least light, small, and moulded to the average hand, and can run for more than 5 1/2 hours between charges over.

Oh, and it's literally the only way to play multiplayer Hyrule Warriors.**

*and I say this as somebody who loved the original Xbox pad despite his teensy-tiny hands

**and presumably any other multiplayer, Pro- and Gamepad-only games

I'm finding it difficult to jump on enemies at the moment. I know you're meant to waggle at them but, well, I dunno. Adjusting.

Waggling at enemies? That's the first I've heard of anything like that. I usually just jump on them or punch/kick them. The waggle move is the spin, right?

It's so big and heavy that my 5 year old nephew can play on the GamePad for hours without any issues.

The Gamepad isn't heavy. I find it more comfortable than a normal controller because my hands are further apart. It feels more relaxed. Similar to the Wiimote + Nunchuck in that respect.

I think people just like the idea of buying nice controllers.

If the Pro controller was 'nice', I might consider that a valid argument.

The gamepad is uncomfortable for me to use for more than a couple of hours at a time. I commend you and Super Craig's five year old on your comfort in using the Gamepad, but for me I find it unpleasant to use at length (particularly if using it as a screen at the same time, as that necessitates holding it even higher than my natural raised position for controllers).

And, again, there's no choice but to buy a pro controller for multiplayer in Hyrule Warriors (and certain other games).

I might be getting one... got a feeling my good lady wife has got me one for Chrimbo*. Which would be nice :)

My questions then are:

- must have games? I suspect I'll have MK8 (as MK was one of her faves on the original Wii) but what else?

- Can I move my already purchased Wii VC games over?

- I have two old Wii Classic Controllers and two wiimotes with the motion plus add-ons and two old Gamecube Pads, can they be used?

- Same question as above RE the wii fit board?

Excited? Just a little bit! :):D

*which then adds to my ongoing anxiety about Christmas/Birthdays that I haven't spent enough on her....

I definitely prefer the Pro controller - my brains seems to get confused by the Gamepad, and I think it's because my hands / thumbs are further apart than 'usual'. I've started and stopped ZombiU plenty of times because I just don't get on with the controls for whatever reason. With Mario Kart and SM3DW I find I'm conscious of the Gamepad all the time, but with the Pro I forget it's there and just get to focus fully on the game.

I can dig the Gamepad's features in places like Miiverse - I think that's great. But in most of the games I've played I think it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist - the exception being titles like Wii Party U and Nintendoland, where it plays an essential role that really improves mutliplayer. And of course off-screen play is a very nice feature, but I'd play the Wii U a lot less if I didn't have the Pro. Luckily for me my daughter almost always picks the Gamepad, presumably because her brain isn't rusted shut like mine.

I've ploughed over 70 hours (!) into Hyrule Warriors - I find the gamepad really comfortable to use, and with the extended battery fitted (and using the charge stand) I don't think it's run out of juice on me even once. Horses for courses, but I think most people find it better 'in the flesh' than they think it's going to be before they actually get their hands on one.

Wiimotes and the fit board work fine. The Wiimotes are supported in lots of games, and the board works in Fit U and Sports (it's great in the golf mode). Haven't used the Classic much but it's definitely supported to a degree. I don't think it can work as a Pro controller substitute but I could be wrong. Gamecube pads, you're out of luck aside from the Smash Bros adapter, as far as I'm aware.

You can move your VC games over but it has to be done in an appallingly faffy manner, It'll talk you through it, just don't pack away your Wii yet and put a pot of coffee on. You can then play them (along with your on-disc Wii games) in a disappointingly-implemented Wii emulation system (it works fine, but brings across all the limitations from the original system), but for supported VC titles you can also pay a small price to upgrade them to proper U versions, which I think is well worth it.

I've managed to moan a few times in that reply, but the backward compatibility is reasonably done once you've been through the setup and migration process. Needless to say a properly done account system like Steam, PSN or Live would be much better, but that's the Nintendo difference.

I find the Gamepad is fine if I'm using the d-pad (so Virtual Console games and things like Mario and Rayman are fine) but it's weighted wrongly when I'm using the analogue stick and it's nowhere near as comfortable. Using both analogue sticks is really awkward, it doesn't feel right at all, so I've never been able to get more than an hour or so into Deus Ex for instance because it doesn't support any other controller.

Funnily enough I think the Gamepad's fine though for off-screen play. I think I hold it completely differently, much more upright with my fingers supporting it using the ledge at the back, and it doesn't bother me half as much.

Luckily I absolutely love the Pro Controller, I think it might be the most comfortable controller I've ever used, so I go for that whenever it's offered as an option (which it is, more often than not these days).

First point, I believe so, and they'll play through the emulated Wii, but I'm not sure of the process.

Second one - definitely worth keeping the Wii controllers as a lot of games will allow use of them (and you'll need them for the emulated Wii), but some Wii U games which you'd expect to support them won't for no real reason at all. The Gamecube controllers can be used for Smash Bros, if you buy the adapter for them, but they won't work with any other game to my knowledge.

Must have games for me would include:

  1. Mario 3D World
  2. Bayonetta 2
  3. Wonderful 101
  4. Pikmin 3
  5. Hyrule Warriors
  6. Mario Kart 8
  7. Lego City Undercover
  8. ZombiU
  9. Nintendoland
  10. MH3U

Yes you can move your Wii VC stuff over - top-tip is to homebrew and back-up your Wii before the transfer, then transfer, then restore your Wii again - games in both places. Some titles have enhanced Wii U versions available - you can pay a small fee to upgrade to those if you want to (or just stick with what you have).

Yes you can use your all your old controllers to control the old games - and the Wiimotes for some of the new stuff as well. The balance board will work just fine as well. Old GC pads can be used in SSB only using the (hard to find apparently) adapter.

The only game I've truly enjoyed on the WiiU so far has been MK8. Mario 3D World and ZombiU were both massively disappointing. Bayonetta isn't my bag. Pikmin 3 is ok, I should probably get back to that.

But yeah, it's a Mario Kart machine to me. Which is fine, I guess.

what?!

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same, except we get good family mileage out of Party and Nintendoland, and Rayman in co-op. I want to love the Wii U, and I think the level of quality Nintendo regularly exhibit needs to be applauded in the age of AC: Unity et al, but at the end of the day I just don't feel the urge to play most of my Wii U titles, beautiful and polished as they may be. It's as disappointing for me as it is for you.

I'm in the same boat having owned the Wii U for almost a year, I've got a fair few games and they're undoubtedly very polished but I just don't really ever feel like playing them for some reason.

edit: Out of Rayman Legends, NSMBU, SM3D World, MK8, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Nintendoland, Wii Party U, Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 I wouldn't say I've put much time into any of them bar MK8 and perhaps Nintendoland and NSMBU. I've not even played three of them beyond loading them up.

5. Mario Kart 8

6. Super Mario 3D World

7. DKC: Tropical Freeze

8. Pikmin 3

9. New Super Mario Bros. U

10. ZombiU
