Nintendo Wii U

Spoke to Nintendo today - thankfully they will be restoring all the Wii U and Wii Virtual Console titles from my console based on the serial number.

Sadly due to the fire they've got about 1000 people to sort out with replacement units for various issues, so they said they can't guarantee I'll get a new console before Christmas.

Oh well.

Does it still power on? If so, could you do a system transfer to another unit with a working drive?

My machine went back then went up in smoke - it wasn't reading discs properly and hadn't been since I got it at launch (but always presumed it was a software, not hardware issue)

Nay mind, I fired up the Gamecube Zelda collection the other day and went back to Ocarina Of Time - never really played it - and picked up from Dogoron's Dungeon or whatever it's called. That'll keep me busy.

I usually trade in games unless they're very special and I feel like I want to keep them. I have 9 wii u games. I have one ps4 game which is a pes promo disc. I have some downloads on the ps4 but I'd have traded them if I could.

I got my wii u in about May and I have 9 discs that I won't trade because I consider them all to be classics that I want to keep. Throughout the entire life of the 360 I'm only left with one or two games like that.

Nintendo just make the best games and if that's what matters to you then it's by far the best console. I've given the ps4 a year but it's nowhere near catching up. I'll not play my wii u for a while if I'm on pes or something but then I go back and am amazed all over again.

same:) play so much stuff every month, but at some point I'll always go back to Mario kart and Mario u, nothing else comes close for simple, immediate fun.

I've had this issue also. Mario World has stopped working.

Do I need to send it back?

Bought it from the states so I could be completely buggered. Assume there is no world wide warranty?

This seems to be quite a common problem. I've posted here before about my Wii U having problems reading some discs and that I was looking for tips on how to get it repaired.

In a nutshell, what I've discovered is that you basically need to buy yourself a replacement disc drive and fit it. Fitting it looks pretty easy. I bought a replacement off a seller in the US and it cost me about S$70 including shipping. It arrived very quickly and is sat here now waiting for me to fit it.

I started Wind Waker last night and it's pretty irritating that it only uses the GamePad or the Wii U's Pro Controller. I don't see why it couldn't use the Wii Pro Controller, or even a Wiimote/nunchuck combo could work.

The GamePad is just so cumbersome for stuff like this, I can't see myself wanting to use it for the 30 hours I'd need to, or however long it lasts so I'll probably never finish it.

The gamepad is great for Wind Waker - especially gyro aiming.

I'd love to play Pikmin 3, but unfortunately it seems to be long out of print. :(

What's that about? There's one copy on Amazon for £40 and two no doubt automated chancers over £70. Nintendo, for the love of God!

On a related note, our local HMV now has a Nintendo presence again, but for how long is anyone's guess. One person-width shelf unit with 3DS at the top and Wii U at the bottom. Did they have any copies of Smash Brothers? Of course not, don't be stupid.

Okay, fair point, I see exactly why.

It's a pretty crap state of affairs though.

Yep, it's really irritating (in a host of games which do the same). I still begrudge Nintendo the £35 I had to spend on their cheap-feeling controller with its awkward stick layout, just so I could play Hyrule Warriors in moderate comfort.

Still, at least the battery life is good!

I know, but I'm not prepared to pay full whack for a game that has no physical media but is not 'guaranteed' by an account system.

If your WiiU breaks, Nintendo will provide the ability to download the games you've previously bought. It's all stored against your NNID

Yip, my Amazon order for MK8, SM3DW white basic for £199 has just been cancelled by them. They're (or their supplier) no longer doing it. FFS.

The fuck...

When did you order yours? I got an email about a delay but nothing so far about a cancellation :(

Get the smyths bundle.

Wii u basic with NSMBU and Smash Bros for £179

Then use the £15 voucher to get mario kart for £15.

Incidentally, I ordered the Amazon bundle and it hasn't been cancelled.

What bundle is that? Can't see it on their site anywhere. Trying to find an alternative in anticipation of my Amazon order getting cancelled.
