Nintendo Wii U

I phoned Nintendo on Saturday chasing up my Wii U which has gone into repair - they asked the date I'd sent it, then said it wouldn't have been affected by the fire, but things are understandably taking 3-4 weeks longer to sort.

Then I got an email today to say my console went up in smoke at the fire. :(

I'll get a new machine and £30 of eshop credit apparently but until I speak to them I've no idea where I stand regarding my gamer profile, the games downloaded to my machine or all the Wii software that I transferred over. Certainly more than £30 of software amongst that...hopefully my Wii saves were safe as I think I backed them up to the sd card, but I've probably lost my Wii U saves as the machine wouldn't let me back up some data to a USB stick before I sent it back.

Does anyone else have any experience regarding a replacement machine?

Ironically, this has got around the whole who-should-be-liable-for-my-knackered-machine issue I was having with HMV.

Saves are gone, but they will be able to restore your Wii U NNID and purchases. You may have to send the console in again to do this, but you'll need to talk to them about it.

However, if you want your Wii VC software replaced you'll definitely need to send the Wii U in again. My Wii VC were games lost when my U went in for repair, so I had to send it back. There isn't an account system in place for those titles, so they just added X wii points to the console, bought a chunk of titles I had bought previously and sent me the console back. It really makes the lack of a proper account system frustrating, but they should restore everything for you (even if it takes a while).

Oh jesus, that sounds like a faff. So do I need to tell them which Wii VC games I owned? How do I prove it? Wonder if they can do all of this before they send it back?

I best get looking at the list of vc games to remember what i had...

To those who ordered the wiiu with 3D world and mario kart from Amazon. What's your estimated delivery say?

I've just had my bundle delayed until next week.

Not too much of a problem, as the pro controller ordered from Nippon-Yasan would have arrived by then, and I would be done with the Wii after ripping all my GC games and save files onto the SD card.

Then I can play PSO Ep 1&2 for the umpteenth time, because I hate myself.

Ok, I want to get Lucas a Wii U Pro Controller for some Smash Bros, does anyone have any experience with the 'fake' ones on eBay? Only has to last until I can get the whole adapter thing for the GameCube Controllers.

If that's an official ad, it's the best one they've done in years.

It is a certain sort of genius..

Sequel, sequel, last gen games, games so old you could have played them on the snes, even older unreleased in the uk NES looking game, mash up of two existing franchises, sequel, sequel you can play with old controller, sequel, game based on mario's pet, mario game and a brand new IP.. (wait what? How did that last one sneak in???)

Sold!

All valid, the games themselves you already know how cynical I am towards most of it, but it still has a lot more personality/style as an advert versus slapping 10+ game covers onto a page and calling your system the best thing ever, aka, what MS/Sony do every other year.

For someone unaware of what games Nintendo have been releasing it's a lovely round up of the best stuff without selling any gimmicks, purely the games. If only all game adverts showed as much love to what they're trying to sell.

Stupid question: does the Wii U have to be connected to the TV for you to play it via the gamepad? Does it just need to be plugged in?

I played mine on a coach ride last week. You only need a mains socket and you're good to go. I love it, and like I said, I can't part with the gamepad now. It's proven its handiness on far too many an occasion.
