Nintendo Wii U

I just don't download retail games, since there's very little difference in price, and there's no guarantee they will be playable on future nintendo systems. As much of a fan I am of steam, most of the games I've bought on there cost very, very little. Wheras I just sold my gamecube collection for nearly £300, which is a useful amount of money to have.

I've already filled my PS4 hard drive and had to delete some games so I could install GTA V. I think I have TWO full retail download games on there (PvZGW and Driveclub at ~16gb each), a load of PS+ indies and then mandatory installs for GTA V, Wolfenstein, Watch_Dogs, Tomb Raider, Second Son and MGS: Ground Zeroes. Wolfenstein clocks in at 51gb and Battlefield 4 alone takes up 67gb. This makes it very difficult to have a decent-sized game collection whether digital or disc-based.

Conversely, my 160gb external drive for Wii U has ~100gb free, yet has 8 or so full retail games on there and a tonne of eShop games and demos.

The point? The 32gb seems like a paltry amount, but it's comparable to a larger drive on a different system. I now have to replace my PS4 hard drive with a 2TB model because the installs are fucking ludicrous. This costs way more than a cheap flash or external drive off Play or eBay which you can plug in with little cost and almost zero hassle.

ANYWAY...

SMASH BROS INCOMING! :omg:

Not totally Wii U related, but the Club Nintendo Stars Catalogue has been updated with a rather lovely Mario Kart 8 pin badge set (a snip at just 4,000 stars). I genuinely would have no use for them at all, but I'm still tempted to get them anyway for some mental reason.

Have you registered Castlevania: Mirror of Fate by any chance? I've got a spare code you can have. That should be 250, and you might have surveys to get the rest?

Bought a set of the badges for myself, they look lovely.

I havent, i just bought a couple of codes on ebay for 99p each that should send me over the limit - can swap a code over if you want so we both get some stars!?

The Monster Hunter text thing really is a terrible oversight. Do people in Japan sit a few centimeters from their TVs?

I do remember a lot of fuss from Japanese punters that the original XBox couldn't stack, and some refused to consider it for that reason. So yeah, I think living space may be a bit limited!

Hi guys, new Wii U owner here. Picked one up second hand with Zelda and Mario 3DW both of which are great.

Am I right in thinking that the console is region locked? I want to get Monster Hunter/MK8 and it would be much cheaper to buy from the states.

Alternatively, is there likely to be an eshop sale over Christmas?

Bear in mind that in the world of Nintendo, "sale" means "barely on sale at all" as well, you're not going to see Steam or PSN levels of price slashing but then those two do go a bit above and beyond on that front.

True.

Nintendo sales are like throwing deck chairs off the side of the Titanic.

Does it definitely come with SM3DW? 'Cos the box contents there says it comes with NSMBU (although the pic and the discription disagree with it).

It does.

And even if amazon sent the wrong game, a quick live chat would sort it out and you'd get 3D World for free (and get to keep NSMB).

On their own titles maybe, the indie and 3rd party stuff goes on sale at decent prices though - it's not unusual to see 30-70% discounts on those at all. Take this week - BIT.TRIP Runner 2, for example, is down to just £3.33 - absolute steal.

And let's not forget that Nintendo gave us all some free stuff with MK8 just recently!

So - I think I'm getting a Wii U for Christmas, with MK8. Other than SMW3D and Bayonetta are there what other games should I look to pick up straight away? Looking forward to X and new Zelda when they come out. I've got a PS4 so really looking just at exclusives...

Without a doubt The Wonderful 101 (much better than Bayonetta 2) and Super Smash Bros.

Everyone should own those two.
