Nintendo Wii U

I don't think anyone here has bought a Wii U expecting it to be anything other than a Nintendo Machine for playing Nintendo games. So I'm not sure how much of a "problem" it really is.

Can we not keep the doom mongering to the "Trouble with Nintendo" thread?

If the title of this one can be changed to the "Democratic People's Republic of Nintendo Thread", then I will agree to that.

I don't think reporting and discussing bad news should be taboo and forced into a thread that is considerably more negative about Nintendo in general.

By the way, CoD has now been confirmed as a no-show. There will be no under-the-radar September announcement of the game's existence this time around.

I originally bought it because of an innovative gamepad, that would allow me to play games differently (as Zombi U excellently demonstrated). I thought developers would embrace it and we would end up with some really innovative software many years down the line. I certainly didnt envisage it would come to a drip feed of Nintendo only games with no other support for what is a lovely bit of hardware.

of course its a problem.

I bought it thinking it would be GameCube Mk2 - a steady stream of good to excellent first party titles and the occasional gem from Capcom. Almost no retail presence in bricks and mortar and much doomsaying on the internet.

Swap Capcom for Platinum, and that sounds about right. The big difference this time is Nintendo own Monolith, meaning we'll get at least one decent RPG. You can query the "steady stream" part, but when you have as little time left for gaming as I do, it's quick enough - I'm starting in deficit with unfinished Wii games as it is.

I don't care about no CoD or Assassin's Creed on Wii U - I didn't buy the console for those games (that's what my PS4 is for) - but I am disappointed that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate isn't coming to Wii U (At least at the moment). That's a real shame.

I bought the console for MH3U.

Hoping they're just withholding news of a Wii U version of MH4U to avoid encouraging people who have a 3DS to wait for the HD version instead. Monster Hunter has 0nly ever been a big screen game to me.

Then you haven't been paying attention to Nintendo since the N64.

That's rather revisionist. The N64, GameCube and Wii had significantly more third-party support than the Wii U. Sure, all three severely lagged behind their competitors, and were far below the heights reached by the NES and Super NES, but they weren't as severely starved of content as the Wii U, certainly not as early in their lifespan.

But the Wii U isn't starved of content. There's loads out/coming out that looks fantastic and yeah most of that is from Nintendo, which is why you buy a Nin-

Argh whatever, it's the same argument every generation is my point.

The fact Nintendo are not in meetings with the big third parties and are just continuing (visibly, to us the consumer at least) as if it's business as usual is the question even the most loyal of fans should be asking.

Some of us may be trolls, but I'd wager the majority simply care about Nintendo enough to want them to do well along with asking them for more out of the system we bought from them. It's not wrong to want the system you bought to be successful enough to provide a hit game at least once a month, is it?

Some folks in this thread are the real oddities where unrational fanboyism is concerned. I'm not proud of Nintendo having fans like that.

Anyone with a US Wii U can, according to Nintendolife, download Disney Infinity for free.

You'll still need to the figures and base to do anything, but still a nice touch. No sign of the same offer here, but hopefully it turns up soon.

There's no denying that Nintendo made a big thing about third parties when unveiling Wii U. With PS3 and 360 still so popular, there's really no excuse to have messed up so badly on this front even if it doesn't matter to most of us on here because we'd never bother with the CODs, FIFAs and GTAs on the console.

It's the architecture and tools more than anything most likely. If it was just a compile flag to get a game on Wii U, then you'd probably see more third party games. Even if they weren't going to join the arms rave, they should have made it super easy to get 360/ps3 games over.

It bares quite a resmblance to the 360 internally. Power CPU with AMD GPU and on board EDRAM. It's a bit differant in it's strength and weaknesses but ports aren't that big a problem. Most ports run close to PS3/360 with little effort to use the machines extra power.

Loads out/coming out? yeah right lol.

I'm down to 2 games i'm playing occassionally, before the console gets resigned as an expensive designer doorstop.

You certainly have yourself convinced. And no, other nintendo consoles have had some great 3rd party support over the years

Now that I have a Wii U and a PS4, I'd say that I'm pretty much set for the next few years. The Wii U definitely has some games on the horizon that I want - I didn't get on fantastically with Bayonetta (although I did play it on the PS3 to be fair) but, having loved the spazzed out story and characters but been roundly rubbish at the gameplay (button mashing ahoy) I think I'll definitely give Bayonetta II a go...... but try and do it properly this time. I'm not sure about Hyrule Warriors but, having just started playing Diablo III on the PS4, and loving it, I'm kind of warming to the idea of ploughing through hoards of enemies with a whacking great sword and a multitude of special attacks and mental moves. Next year Splatoon, Xenoblade and, touch wood, Zelda too so I'm happy with that, given all the stuff coming out on the PS4 in the same period.

If I just had a Wii U though, and no PS4, that would be slim pickings
