Nintendo Wii U

Yeah, but I wonder how many from that list will get canned if the Wii U continues as it is now?

I'd say not many really, there's nothing particularly big on there to start with. Watch Dogs and a couple of middling Activision games, potentially? Ovbiously the Nintendo stuff isn't going to fall off, including things like the GBA games that are listed.

I think there's a games drought on all new gen home consoles, but yeah you can't really say to someone "but there's 4 new games coming out for the Wii U this year, so buy one!"

I don't know how Nintendo address this, although it's a similar problem to the N64. They just stubbornly refuse to give insight into releases outside of the next 6 months. Maybe because they don't like committing to release dates, but that's another issue miyamoto needs to sort out, releasing games on schedule, regularly, instead of just saying "we will show you the games when we feel confident they are nearly finished." I get it that they see themselves as artists, but that attitude is seriously hurting them now. People have literally no idea what's being launched after those 4 games and that doesn't make you feel confident in purchasing a Wii U. People presume the PS4 and One will have games, although there isn't much evidence to back it...(EDIT LOL apart from those lists!)

For me, E3 needs to be like a Spaceworld of old, or even the GameCube reveal at e3. show loads of in progress games in a showreel that's 10 mins long with every few minutes a OMG moment (Zelda, F-zero, etc). Even if they are years away or might not even be released, they need to get back that Nintendo WOW factor.

Ever since miyamoto has been promoted, they've cut back on these show case events. Obviously he doesn't like showing anything until it's finished, likely because they are always delayed. Someone needs to kick his engineering team up the arse and get them releasing more.

I'm still happy with my Wii U, but they have lost that Nintendo wow factor on upcoming releases. I remember getting really excited at the GC reveal, Star Wars, realistic Zelda, Mario 128.

Titanfall, Watchdogs, The Witness, Witcher 3, The Division, Dying Light, The Evil Within, Destiny, Transistor, Hotline Miami 2, Hohokum. All shite.

I want to play two of those, and one of them's still on for a Wii u release anyway ...

Is the Lovefilm app on WiiU totally shit or did I just pick a bad time? Warning signs when it took ages to sign in because the keyboard was so slow and unresponsive that it only registered one press in three, and the whole app was as slow as that throughout, any press on a button taking about five seconds to register a response. Then I finally got to watching a film and it just errored half way into it, wouldn't let me go out and resume from where I got to (black screen) and wouldn't let me start again and fast forward to where I was (just hung where I'd tried to forward from).

Is it worth trying again or do I just give up trying to watch films on this thing?

Is Donkey Kong the only game out for the Wii U? Is that all we're getting for the next two years?

Certainly going from around now, there's that and the other 4 games you've mentioned (plus NES Remix 2 and also Watch Dogs if you want to bring multiplatform in, I guess). Presumably you're just being sarcastic but might know differently though, in which case feel free to spill the beans on anything else I might not be aware of.

I haven't tied it on the WiiU (always use the app on my PS3), however yesterday was the day they changed Amazon Prime to include the Instant streaming service so I would guess there were probably a lot of people trying to access the service yesterday to give it a go. Probably meant Amazon saw a might higher than usual usage spike.

Although it might just be rubbish on the WiiU.

Lovefilm does seem a bit broken. The Gamepad always seems to have the search box on it but the results appear on the TV which means you can't use it without the TV (though the video can play on the pad). I also searched for "Thomas" [i.e. the Tank Engine] for my kid and it returned "Black Emanuelle" in the results.

Both video apps need to sort out their parental controls really. Netflix allows a special kids account, but you can't password your other account. So your kids are about three clicks away from watching the Human Centipede or something.
