Nintendo Wii U

Arkham Origins is £13.50 in HMV Oxford St at the moment. Worth it?

Not sure about the game itself - more feedback in the batman thread - but conversion - is meant to be good but it does not have multiplayer or DLC.

Edit: that was a quick from the top of my head - did a google digital foundry:

Unfortunately, the Wii U once again disappoints with considerably worse performance than the other formats. This is a shame, as the use of lower-resolution shadows and greater texture streaming problems could all be overlooked if the game ran far more smoothly. The pared-back GamePad features and the lack of multiplayer also comes across as a disappointment, making this version hard to recommend if you own multiple platforms.

Seems like frame rate drops more than other versions.

I think so, bought it for around £20 and it plays well enough to me having played the previous 2 on ps3, but then I'm not too fussed about possible tech glitches

It does have the nasty Save game corruption bug present in both 360 and ps3 versions mind, I lost my campaign progress (luckily I'd only played an hour) but if you take the punt be sure to quit all the way back out to title screen before powering off

Isn't that just compounding it? People holding off making it even harder for the Wii U to even tread water.

Brutal honesty time, the Wii U is in such serious difficulty that persuading personal acquaintances to purchase the console isn't going to help it, let alone save it. That's just a few drops in the ocean.

They wouldn't be in 'quite' the bad situation they're in if the tech was similar, indeed.

If Nintendo had similar tech, and had launched 1 year earlier, they'd be Xb0ned, a big hole in their finances on even more expensive hardware, with still the same basic appeal problems and no BC to boot aswell. The GameCube was better than the PS2, easier to dev, still didn't pan out for most devs, hence why they ditched it first and Nintendo had to appease EA to keep them onboard.

True to a point - third party support wouldn't be as dire, as developers would be able to port stuff, even badly, without much fuss. Gamecube got third-party support throughout.

I just can't recommend anyone laying down several hundred Pounds to purchase a console with such a short, games-drought-ridden future ahead if it.

What's coming out for the PS4 and XBO this year besides Titanfall?

Come on, seriously. I've little to no interest in the Xbox One or PS4 at the moment, but it's fair to say both have substantially more than 4 decent sounding games coming out this year. To bounce the question back, what's coming out for Wii U next year? The Wii U is a decent buy if you want to play a handful of good games (although if those games aren't up your street there's not a whole lot else to pick from) but it's a struggle to say it's a worthwhile longer term prospect if you're wanting to make the most of your money. Although if that's the aim I'd say sod the lot of them and get a Vita to be honest.

I have a ps4 and it just sits there gathering dust. Shadowfall is pretty good, but the lack of mid mission saving means I cant be bothered to turn it on for a two hour playthrough. Knack was just terrible and I really didnt like Outlast very much.

At least the wiiu has games I want to play.

As for this year - what does the ps4 have? - Watch Dogs, Destiny, and er, Infamous.

To be fair, the Wii U does have a similarly long list although I don't personally find any of it it very inspiring bar what's already been mentioned. Happy to stick with what I've got anyway to be honest, might actually really be able to get my teeth into the pile of shame this year :)
