Do they actually fly off shelves, though?

I was just going by someone saying they'd sold out this time round as indeed they did just before Xmas when I was after one. I guess that you're right though and whilst they've sold the ones they had that doesn't mean they've actually sold a boat load of them.

Still can't help but think though that if they bundled the machine with say one download code for a AAA title at £179 or two at £199 that they'd then sell shed loads.

While everyone is shouting about how doomed nintendo are (they arent) they have quietly forgotten to mention that their stock shares have levelled out again to what they were two weeks ago.

I find it really hard to care to be honest.

Yep. There was rampant speculation on the stocks for a short while. Basically everyone jumped on them to make a quick buck. It happens.

I'm looking forward to Tropical Freeze in the sense that a new DKC is always bound to be fun, but it does look EXACTLY the same as its predecessor.

A more distinct art style would've been nice.

I've always thought of the DKC games as Nintendo's equivalent to the 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog series, platform games aimed primarily towards western tastes, pretty much the same game sold over and over again with minor tweaks and differences, and designed around presentation over substance.

The DKC games have plenty of substance. The patterns you have to remember get a little crazy. Tropical Freeze adopts the SMB2 feature of being able to pluck stuff out of the ground and toss it. You just know there's going to be a ton of inventive uses for that.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is also quite a bit harder than any of the 2D Marios as far as I'm concerned. Difficulty doesn't necessarily make something inherently better obviously, but it makes for a nice change of pace.

I'm pretty pumped for Tropical Freeze.

Today's Wii U repair status.

I posted the faulty console off yesterday and it's now in far away Coventry being delivered. It took Nintendo 2 weeks to get back to me and within that time the 12 month warranty expired. I wonder if they'll do the decent thing and show some good will or will follow up on their email....

They'll be minus one customer for this generation if they do.

Had an email from them last night...

Dear Mr xxxxx

Thank you for sending in your Nintendo Wii U console(Black) for repair. Following inspection we are pleased to say we are able to repair the product at a cost of £ 53.50. If you wish to proceed with the repair or alternatively require any further information please contact us on 0845 6050247 to make payment.

Many Thanks

The Nintendo Customer Support team

I'm absolutely disgusted.

I'm afraid there won't be a serial number coming back to me as I told them to stuff it on principal and keep the machine. I'll be selling the games later.

If they can't offer their loyal customers support then they don't deserve any custom from me now or in the future.

Strange, strange decision by you.

Totally see where you are coming from but I would have just argued to get the charge waived. Even if you sold the machine on return.

Whilst not an excuse, it was probably a standard response you got for a machine outside 12 months warranty.

Er, just tell them they've made a mistake, unless you like chucking two hundred quid out of the window?

As others have said call them and get them to sorted. Unfortunately i had an issue with them in the past and it takes a lot of escalating to get anything done. Keep harassing, keep telling them to escalate it as like you say, they are just reading a script and have zero control over anything. When stuff goes faulty Nintendo are fine, but if you then have any issues beyond this they can be the biggest pain in the world. But don't let them get away with it, they won't realise they lost a customer over this. Keep telling them to escalate and keep pushing.
