Was Mario 3D World anyones GotY? If not why not? The Last of us is a good game, maybe a great one? I don't know but it was still pretty good in an over the top blockbuster action film sorta way. Bioshock Infinite bored me after a wonderful opening. Yet Mario 3D World has given me over 30 hours of solid fun, where not once was i bored and i usually get bored of games after about 7 hours. Filled to the brim with extras from Luigi Bros to captain toad levels and all of it working just as well whether you have 1 player or 4. Seriously, how was this game ignored by so many journalists when it clearly is a brilliant and most of all fun game.

It certainly wasn't ignored by journalists... and most good web sites have it featuring very highly in the games of 2013. Which is fair enough. 2013 produced a wide spectrum of great games for pretty much every taste.

The issue being that tastes have changed. Those of us who value the type of game that Mario 3D World is are far out numbered by those who value a different type of game, and Nintendo don't appeal to those people. The gamers that Nintendo traditionally appeal to are young gamers - who (unless their parents are nintendo gamers themselves) are playing games mainly on tablets and phones and awareness of Mario etc will be pretty low. They would enjoy them if they played them, but to these kids, Mario is just another game character like Master Chief or what have you, and not a representation of 'the best games' (if you know what I mean).

NIntendo could completely revive their fortunes by making a cheap Cumulus Rift knock-off for Wii U and selling it to the Wii Fit crowd.

The only way to hold any controller or handheld is by having your left thumb on the left stick or d-pad, your right thumb on the buttons or right stick and your index fingers on the triggers or back buttons.

I think it would help if they...

* Release Dragon Quest X, Yakuza 1+2 and a whole heap of other games they never bothered their arse translating

* Put out a Gundam game in Japan (always sell well)

Naturally that wont fix everything, but it might help a bit

Well, I had pretty much zero interest in DKCTF... but then I snapped up DKCR in the magical sale and it's great. Tropical Freeze has now stormed to the top of my list. How the heck do I know when wonderful 101 is saving? I did a mission and then it went to the next mission and I assumed it had saved. But when I went back to it I was back at the start of the previous mission, number 5 not number 6

I think you have to manually save at the screen in between missions where the shop/upgrades are. Not sure if it autosaves, I always manual save just in case.
