Nintendo Wii U

The speed at which the prices were changed makes me think that someone is going to get a severe bollocking over at the Nintendo Store.

They should be okay. The general policy for fuckups at Nintendo is to make the culprit bow and ask for understanding.

I ordered Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101. Got my confirmation email immediately (they'd only changed the price back for the boxed games at that point), and just a few seconds later the digital downloads had changed to £39.99 too. Haven't had my codes yet, am worried they're not going to honour my order! What a deal, though - Nintendo should definitely think about flash sales for real.

I just bought* two games I'd never buy at full price. But at <10 quid, they were both bargains and crossed over that value threshold for me. So, regardless if it's a f$%k up - I imagine in 10 minutes it was up, Nintendo made a lot more money from those games than they would have over the course of the entire week.

Every company should do flash sales. Steam has the right idea. A few thousand people buying that game at 25% of the price is better than no-one buying it, it increases traffic to your site/app and elevates brand awareness into social consciousness. I spent £30-40 over Christmas on the discounted games on the Wii U shop and another £17 now that I would never have spent otherwise (only a passing interest in DKC and M&L was unappealing due to mixed reviews).

EDIT: Status, Awaiting Stock Pick. HURRY UP.

If Nintendo were smart about this, then they'd honour the sales. Learn that this could be a good thing. But the realities of a corporate are that you can't just do this - and so someone will get a bollocking, we won't get our codes and I'll continue to never pay >10 quid for either Lego City or DK.
