I take it you can't play the same character in 3D World? We haven't got it yet, but the ads have been all over kids channels for ages and mine are already arguing about who's going to be Princess Peach.

You can't play as the same Character, but you can press the 'Random' character select button at the start of the stage. Helps prevent arguments, as you get who you get and everyone has equal chance of avoiding being Peach.

Do you think that this is that "tropes" woman's doing, that you can play as peach? Her first video went on and on about how you could never play as Princess Peach. Then blam! Next Mario comes out and you can be Peach.

My youngest boy is as of yet un-sullied by the shackles of socially imposed gender identity and plays Peach by choice. He paused the other day though and said "But if I am Peach then who am I rescuing?"

Dunno son, some fairies or something.

I might be getting bearded here but they're the same characters as Super Mario Bros 2/Doki Doki Panic.

The sprixie things were in that? Totally blocked that out of my mind, clearly, I just thought they were just a new macguffin like the star bits from Galaxy (althought they kind of made some vague logic what with Stars in Mario etc). Mind suitably blown.

No, I meant Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad being selectable :) I can't remember for the life of me what the motivation behind SMB2 was.

Oh right, yeah, I knew that much at least :) Ah well, Mind has been unblown. Sucked perhaps, no, that's not right either...

Something to do with Birdo and eggs. And plants, maybe.

Also, the common misconception is that Doki Doki Panic! was changed to SMB2 as it was too difficult for USA markets. However, Doki Doki Panic started life as a mario game in Japan but was changed to Doki Doki Panic due to the gameplay being too different. Weird huh? I only found out about that last year.

(unless, the source was making shit up but it's mostly credible)

I looked it up on Wiki (yeah well) and that claimed it was originally a mario game in Japan but changed because of a TV deal but then had Mario added back in America as the TV show was Japan only and then sold in Japan as Mario USA.

Apparently the plot is that the characters need to free the dreamworld Subcon (?) from a big frog called Wart. Obviously.

Due to a lack of free HDMI inputs, I am using my old Wii component cable with my Wii U. It actually works quite well, puts 1080p out no problem. Not as good as HDMI obviously, but it still looks great.

Pretty sure you're only getting 1080i via component - half the resolution of 1080p. Component itself is effectively compressed too (albeit an analogue form of compression) - HDMI will look significantly better.

I think the way it goes was that Miyamoto worked on DDP as SMB2 and another members were getting experience making levels which then became the Lost Levels.

The US thing was more that they thought it looked far too similar to market as a sequel and so the West got a different SMB2 simply because it was more original.

The irony.

I wish they had any sense of too familiar with current Mario games now, eh.

Well, the resolution tick box on the Wii U says 1080p, and so does my TV. They might be lying to me, but it seems legit.

I dunno why this channel isn't more popular. Great reviews with hilarious humor :-)

Thanks, Sam the human. We predict that we just need a big shout out from a large human YouTuber to crack that silly threshold of popularity. Help spread the robot uprising word!

Component can easily carry 1080p and it's not compressed as has been said - it's analogue so has to through digital > analogue conversion and back again. Generally it's not as sharp but a very good component output can look as good and some may prefer even!

Can anyone seriously tell the (minute) difference?

Also, what are those stars beside my name in my profile on here?

I run my Wii U at 1080p through component because of the lack of multiple HD inputs on the little TV I use for games. I don't notice any difference. There might well be one but nothing big enough for me to notice.

It can carry 1080p but generally never does as HDCP protection prohibits it. The WiiU doesn't have a drive that will play dvd or blurays so it seems 1080p is fine, I'm more surprised SozzlyJoe's TV accepted it, I was under the impression 1080p component was very rare on domestic TV's.

Also, YUV component is very much a form of analogue compression. The image is separated into luminance and chrominance - chroma is sampled with typically half or even a quarter the detail of luma. Furthermore, the conversion process from RGB to YUV is inherently lossy, resulting in crosstalk between chroma and luma channels which manifests itself as fuzzy edges, particularly around areas of high contrast and saturation.
