Nintendo Wii U

Thinking of modding my vWii. I only used Configurable USB Loader on the proper Wii. Are there any issues that I need to know about?

There is quite a big post on GBAtemp with all the dos and don'ts of vWii modding. Apparently there are some risks of bricking the device if you're not careful. I can't be arsed myself though, I rather keep my Wii U vanilla and keep my original Wii on the side for emulation etc. It's not that there's any retail title on the Wii I still want to play, apart from a quick go on Mario Galaxy every once in a while.

Weird,

I can play mine easily for 4-5 hours and I've still never run out of battery on it.

I do always charge it in the cradle when not playing, mind you.

Maybe it's the distance to the Wii U that's causing the problem, or interference ? ( I'm presuming that the controller ramps up the power to the wireless connection if it's poor, like mobile phones).

I think the reason it performed lowly was because I was playing NES Remix with full screen brightness on full volume (with headphones) on the gamepad. This afternoon whilst playing the utterly sublime Super Mario Bros WiiU, with the brightness down to 2, the volume a lot lower, playing through the TV, after 70 minutes play it still displayed full charge.

I 'spose, rather obviously, the brighter/louder you have the gamepad, the quicker it looses charge. Might also be game dependant. Sill going to get the higher capacity batter when it becomes available.

Did mine last week, used the Indiana Jones exploit straight into the homebrew channel & then D2X from there. I couldn't get CFG USB Loader to run but WiiFlow works just fine.

of course it is! The WiiU is being dropped like a hot potato by retailers worldwide. Its already doomed, the only question is whether Nintendo will continue to support it for the next few years and salvage something or wipe their hands clean and start working on something new.

What retailers? There are no retailers any more. It's all online, and it's not been dropped there.

From one of the comments it mentions it's a one day deal Black Friday style at ONE of the stores. All other stores selling at normal price. I don't think it's time to worry just yet. Maybe.

The real victim here is the PS3 (skip to 40s because the forum couldn't embed... a cat!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mP_ZA-J5eA&feature=youtu.be&t=40s

I should tell my family we've made a horrible decision in getting a Wii U. They've been having a fantastic time playing countless hours of games on the wrong console.

I've bought more games in the past few months than in the last two years of owning a 360.

Doomed.

Well in that case the PS3, PS4 and the Vita are dead, the Xbone is gone, the 360 is hanging on, and the 3DS and Wii U are on the way out. The Wii and DS however, are doing awesomely, and sales of PC £1.99 shovelware have never been so good.

The most popular games console, however, is Skylanders.

Because...?

I haven't played it yet, btw. I was thinking of picking it up as I needed a Mario Party fix.

Because it's not as good as Wii Party. It tries to do too much in that there are games that can be played in a few different ways but in the Nintendo way they have a few decent if shallowly implemented ideas and leave it at that, as if in the hope that someone else might see it and make use of it in a future game, which then doesn't happen ever. Some games need the gamepad, some don't, some have a bizarre two player only competitive setup using only the gamepad (or which only one was really any good, but only a ten minute diversion even so) and so on. And the gameboard (or at least, the first one) is soulless and horribly uninspiring, it reminded me of Crash Course on XBLA in look. We didn't even see each other 'til the final roll.

That was admittedly just first impressions though, there are a lot of minigames we haven't played yet but Wii Party seems a much better option even so. Still, it seems you must like Mario Party which I never found a version of that I could say I really enjoyed so you might love it. I'd have been utterly gutted if I hadn't got a bundled remote+ with it, whereas the included remote was a nice bonus with the Wii version. You know, I could be being overly harsh - I thought Mario Party 7 & 8 were bloody awful and only even bought Wii Party for the remote on a deal too good to refuse, so the pleasant surprise factor of the game actually being decent might've helped whereas with this one I went into it expecting something as good and found a bit of an average mishmash.

I've mentioned it before but I guess it bears repeating; the main board game on WiiU Party is pretty rubbish. Gamepad Island is better but relies a lot on how you throw the dice on the gamepad. There are some clever ideas for that too late in the game and you're stuck with the basic ones earlier. The Fashion Board game is the highlight of the mutliplayer offerings though, a sort of monopoly lite and a much tighter designed board meaning that on most turns something decent happens. I've always found Mario Party to be enjoyable but you could take five turns on the run without any kind of decent event.
