Nintendo Wii U

You can use just the wiimote and play games that don't need the gamepadThe only one of those games you can't play is nintendoland

What happens in 3D Mario when you get to a bit which needs a mic / touchscreen to activate platforms if you aren't using the Gamepad as I thought it was essential?

I'm stuffed anyway. The console wants me to sync the Wii U controller so I can enter 4 playing card symbols, but the controller won't turn on. I don't think it had even been charging for 2 minutes so I imagine it's still more or less flat. Tried syncing the Pro controller and a wiimote to turn it on with but to no avail. Fuck.

Well, I've got it all set up and running. A bit of a ball ache with some dubious error messages and illogical sequence things in the setup process but after all the horror stories post-launch about hour long downloads and other general misery I was expecting the worse but eventually it was all done in about 30 minutes. Nice touch that you can bring over your 3DS Mii.

Super Mario 3D World is lovely.

There are a few Euro plug Wii U controller power supplies on EBay for under a fiver. You'd obviously need to wait for them to be delivered and use a shaver adaptor but that's one option.

Oh, just spotted some UK ones on Amazon. Just search "WiiU power". Under a fiver and a couple of quid delivery.

I know the above won't sort you out immediately, but it'll get you up and running after a few days.

DeKay: Not that simple I'm afraid (reconnecting the cable). It has an inner and outer cable so I'm assuming one is -ve and one +ve. Maybe with a bit of patience but if I get them touching somewhere I don't think it would do the battery much good.

It really is that simple matey. I don't mean that in a patronising way either, just want you to be able to enjoy your WiiU. Just do the following and Bob's your uncle and (rather more importantly) Mario's back on your telly, hurrah :).

Santa brought me another Wii U after previously having one close to launch. There's so much gaming goodness on this thing now.

I have come up against one problem, I can't link my previous ID with it. It's linked with the old one and according to the internet there's no way to unlink it. Does anyone know if there's any way around this? Surely there's a way? I don't see the point of an accounts system if it's still all tied to one device.

Ah, cheers Womble9. Didn't think of doing it like that. Will have a go tomorrow, had too many drinks now :-)

That will put me on till I get one of the adapters Rob spotted on Amazon and hopefully I can get an official one from Nintendo soon after. I'm starting to cheer up at last.

So, turns out Nintendo, Sony and Valve have all had network problems today... The first proper digital Christmas I would imagine. Need to learn from their mistakes. However, Nintendo should offer their own unique cloud service named "white bushes".

PSN was down much of last night also.

EDIT: Which you said. I am a moron. Sorry.

Wii U has had some pretty strong sales in the past couple of weeks in Japan. 120k last week.

There some really good sub £200 deals in the UK now as well. Couple that with good advertising and its got legs. They really need to get out there and set up stands in malls all over the UK if they havn't already, and show it and the controller with its nice screen & make it clear its all new and HD. First time I saw the controller I was surprised how good it was. Show that in packed out Bluewater, Trafford Centre etc along with mario in HD and for less than £200. It would then create a nice buzz and word of mouth.

My daughter made a drawing of the Wii U controller with Mario on it, we've had the first fight who can have a go on Super Mario 3D World and even my wife has been playing. Seems like a hit.

The next few days I'll be at my parents, and shopping will be done. I have seen some dirt cheap Wii U games (a.o. Zombi U and NintendoLand for 15eu each and Lego City for 20 euro or so) last time we were there, so hopefully I'll be able to scoop up a nice collection for next to nothing too. Hurray for consoles that don't sell!

I've moved the wii u into another room today and cannot connect to the internet at all, using the same settings as before. It says I have 2/3 blue bars. I realise the eshop is down but should still be able to connect to web right?

Edit: sorted now, the age old "turn it off and on again" did the trick

Put another hour or so into Mario 3D World last night and predictably it's awesome.

My 4 year old however has been much happier playing Nintendo Land. For kids this is a real gem, just Mario Chase on its own is hours of entertainment. Of course I have to "let them win" every now and again, but they are getting better and most importantly having a total blast playing it. Epic win.

Eshop not working for 2 days is a disgrace though, so glad I ran the updates a few weeks ago and bought physical discs. Never had this shit on my 3DS in the last 6 months or so.really wanted to bag Zombii u though, will that still be £7.99 for a while?

Edit: didn't know before that not only can the gamepad control the TV but also my Sky box and change the TV input too! This is a revelation! You can't hate Nintendo for long, totally redeemed themselves there.

Eshop is still down, nice one Nintendo. All that promoting of Wii sports club and the free passes has gone to waste and can't even download anything. Pretty poor wether it's nintendo or not.

I agree with this. It's another wasted Christmas. Wanted to play Golf last night after getting home, but couldn't...

How? Mine won't recognise my Sky HD box or my Onkyo amp.

When in the TV remote settings it gave an option to set up TV and Set Top Box. Followed the same procedure for both (pressing first letter of the make, in this case S for Sky. Chose Sky and it worked first time). Chose LG for TV option and it worked second time.

Can enter channel via the on screen number pad, turn it on and off, change volume and input. EDIT: after having another look you can also access the guide and settings and set things to record.

It's a Sky+ HD box. Haven't tried it with my newer 2tb box.

Every single aspect of Nintendo's online presence is complete dogshit. Nintendo.co.uk isn't accepting my Club Nintendo login, the eshop is down, the 'free' day of Wii Sports is a complete washout. I really want them to succeed but they do a great job of shooting themselves in the foot time and time again.
