Nintendo Wii U

Encouraging sales data from Japan this week with Dragons quest giving a nice bump to software sales and Mario 3D showing some good legs sales wise (it increased over the previous week). The WiiU meanwhile shifted 47,000 units which is respectable for pre-christmas. The only Machine to outsell it was, of course, the 3DS. Quality software in selling console shocker.

Have to send both consoles off again now, hugely frustrating for something that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Really disappointed that I won't have the option to play Mario 3D World on my birthday, but they should be able to get it back for Christmas at least.

Got Link to the Past there and played til I'd done the first dungeon. It definitely feels slow compared to Link Between Worlds; hilariously so. I might fire up the US version on an emulator to see how much of that's down to the fact it's 50hz. Still; wonderful game. Did the same thing as Mario World on Virtual Console in impressing me all over again with just how damn good the music is.

Well I can't put it off any longer. No way I'm buying a PS4 until March/April but I've been toying with the idea of a Wii U for a month or two now and I think I've finally caved in.

Am I right in thinking you can only get the Mario pack direct from the Nintendo store?

It's not even a proper Mario pack as such, it's just the NSMBU/NSML pack you can get anywhere, plus they add on a Mario remote and SM3DW separately. You could probably pick it all up miles cheaper just buying it separately - I bought the Wii U and a Mario remote for about £220 for example and it's not going to cost £80 to buy SM3DW and a Mario hat (if I happened to want one).

Link to the Past is amazing. I can't believe I've owned every Nintendo console and handheld except the NES but I've never played this classic. It's perfect on the gamepad screen.

But it's pretty hard isn't it? I'm only on the first proper dungeon and I keep getting killed. It's a lot less forgiving than the more recent Zeldas I think.

Nah, the difficulty is PERFECT in aLttP. It's just that recent Zeldas have become a walk in the park.

It depends where you want your difficulty. If it's in the puzzles and stuff the new ones are just as good. If you find resource limitation and being forced to replay 20 minutes of the same part again (and some people do; people are enjoying Hero Mode on the modern Zeldas) then the older ones are for you.
