Nintendo Wii U

Drive's always noisy if the disc is in. NNID and club nintendo accounts are different things. Just don't look at the pad.

So there isn't a way to turn the screen off then, fair enough.

I have a NNID account & a club nintendo account but when I enter the correct details on the Wii U, it fails.

How do I stop it displaying foreign messages in the plaza thing, I changed a setting in the Miiverse but it doesn't seem to have worked, in fact is there anything else I could have on the tv instead of this plaza when I'm not in a game?

The rumble is hilariously bad, not sure if it's the size of the pad or what but it is poorly implemented in 101.

I picked up Deus Ex for £14 on an Amazon lightening deal earlier. I have absolutely no time to take it on (I'm desparately trying to finish off Darksiders II still before Mario), but at that price I figured it would be rude not to.

The deal finished with only 40%-odd of the stock gone - so it'll probably come back around at some point.

Another quick question; are downloads tied to the physical console with the same shitty system the Wii used or are they tied to an account now so if my console breaks & I buy a new one, I can recover any purchases to the new system?

I quite fancy having a few games in memory instead of on disc but I'm not going to bother if it is essentially wasted money.

Got Mario 3D World yesterday, but it's been taken away so I can have it as a birthday present. Cheers for that. That being said, it's going to be played with the family around Christmas, so it will be amazing.

I've also bought them a Wii U, as it has something for everyone:

Mainly web browser/Netflix for my Dad

Above + Wii Fit U for my Mum (the pedometer is £12 @ CEX for those of you with a balance board)

Got Lego City, Disney Infinity, Sonic Racing Transformed and ZombiU for the sister.

Amazing Christmas confirmed.

One thing that is really beginning to grate with me is this whole thing on the internet (4chan etc mainly) of every game that is released for wii u being hailed as the coming of the apocalypse because it isn't selling silly figures, and that because sales are low this is an indicator that the machine is of poor quality.

Since when did sales become the only measure of quality? Why can people not simply allow others to enjoy something they like without feeling the need to compare it to their favourite machine to the belittlement of all else?

It's basically like saying One Direction are better than Pink Floyd because they have better sales. It is more a matter of personal taste.

My personal gaming tastes have changed a lot in recent years. I have a young family now and enjoy games that all the family can enjoy. Most of these fanboy types just want poorly plotted COD ripoffs and space marine on steroids games with the occassional "fuck" thrown in. I played a recent big name game on xbox (Im not going to name names) and it brought to mind the character in Hitchhikers Guide who won the award for the most gratutitous use of the word "fuck" in a major motion screenplay. Douglas Adams was bang on with how society was going to go on that count.

TL:DR I wish the fanboys would fook off and just let people enjoy wii u.

I really want to know what game you were playing

you could essentially pick one at random, it seems almost all the "mature" and "hardcore" games on xbox and playstation these days fall into this category and it bores me to salty tears.

There is a fella in my workplace who instantly dismissed super mario 3d because it was "cutesy" and "family" and the Wii U as "gimmicky", then rambles on about how much he loves battlefield 4 and gears of war....

Those games are fine, I suppose, but they just don't tickle my fancy anymore and as such PS4 and especially xbox one are almost totally off my gaming radar. I spend most of my time playing legend of zelda wind waker HD or civ 5 on my pc.

Today's gaming market really seems to be very much focused on producting bigger budget blockbusters in the same vein as cinema. And, much like cinema, especially in the mid 90s, it is producing big flashy special effects laden blockbusters at the expense of the core experience, telling a fun story and making something for people to enjoy.

One man's opinion I know and almost totally anecdotal, but it is just how I feel. I don't feel that I should have to justify myself for liking nintendo or their games simply due to snobbishness and this "keeping up with the joneses" attitude. Most of the PS4's and Xbox One's seem to be being flogged straight off on ebay anyway...

GTA5...

I have to say that at the start of the year i was a bit down on gaming, had let my gold sub run out having been on it since the original xbox live beta, didnt get a wii u on launch and had an unloved 3ds knocking around...

As it stands today i have a wii u that i utterly love, i switched to the PS3 to play GT5 again and so my daughter could play the wonderbook harry potter and a 3ds xl thats been brilliant... i have gone from a 'giving gaming up' stance to having one of the best years EVER in gaming and i want a PS4 just to play 64 player BF4!!

The wii u has merely been a part of it, a pretty bloody amazing part of it but BF3 and GTA5 just as much - in the same way i dont think i could have a wii u only i dont think i would want to have a ps/xbox only - all the machines offer something, heck i even want a vita now :o

I just don't get all the moaning about PS3/4 and the 360 being a boring sameness of AAA bromance gaming.

On my shiny new PS4 I've got Flower, Escape Plan, Sound Shapes and a little arcade shooter called Resogun. This morning in a PS3 sale I picked up Terraria and Dokuro which are a 2d platformer version of Minecraft and a cute little adventure platform game respectively. The WiiU does have some great titles but so do all the other non-nintendo home consoles and handhelds.

I agree totally jonny, but again, these are drowned out by the AAA bromance crap. I have some terrific stuff on my ps3, and even my 360. I will eventually get a ps4 etc, but sadly these games are under-represented.

Rampant fanboyism is starting to irritate me. Just enjoy games. People don't seem to be able to just enjoy things and be brought happiness and joy by them anymore, there seems to be a need to have an "opinion" lol

BTW, is flower any good and how much was terraria, was it on psn?

Terraria is on sale at £3.95 till monday for PS3. There are quite a few interesting titles in the weekend sale.

Flower on PS4 looks gorgeous but it's definitely an experience rather than a traditional game. I bought it on PS3 way back and since then have had access to the vita and PS4 versions for free.
