Nintendo Wii U

Tempting. Description mentioned it also comes with Lego Batman 2 (which is pretty good, played on PS3) but that may be a mistake.

Bought it. Lego City Premium Bundle + Rayman Legends for £199.99. Looks like it sold out in less than a minute?!?

Now, any good eShop sales going on? Monster Hunter would be nice!

Sold out in about 45 seconds. Nintendo are DOOMED.

I think it more goes to show that at that sort of deal, people will go for one rapidly. That's what it took for me :) Although I'd have been happy (happier?) with the NSMBU pack at that price to be honest, even though it's worth less.

And I know this has been said before, but Nintendoland turned up yesterday and my wife still didn't really understand what a Wii U even is. And this is a person who had a NES and is better at Sonic the Hedgehog than me, so it's not like she's clueless.

The NSMBU Pack was £199.99 last week at Shopto/play.com and was £220 with wii sports tennis/bowling at Game for nearly a week too.

People should of got it then as I doubt its gonna be cheaper this side of Christmas. The Zelda XL 3DS was also £175 on Monday at Shopto/play.com.

Some good deals if you look around.

I know, I missed them due to being on the fence even at that price and was waiting for something similar to come back around. The point is though that these shouldn't be brief deals, they should be readily available impulse purchases.

Right I got the Wii U amazon deal. The console is primarily for the two children (3 and 5, although nearly 4 and 6) and Mrs Hierophant may well use Wii fit (we have the old balance board).

What accessories does it come with what do I need? I'm thinking I will need two Gamepads and two to four Wii remote pluses. I'll probably get a classic controller too. I have some Wii remotes kicking about so presumably they will work with the Wii U? Should I also get the motion plus sensors for them?

What good family games are there for children the age mine are? It would be nice if we could all play something together?

Thanks.

Argos Outlet were selling Nintendoland on ebay for £15.99, and Wii Party U was £31.99 on Amazon (comes with another remote with WMP built in).

You only need one Gamepad - there is no software available that supports two, and you can't buy them separately anyway. The Wii Remotes you already have will work, but you'll need the Motion Plus add-on to make them compatible with certain games.

I guess that Nintendoland and Wii Party are the games you want - the latter includes a Wii Remote with Plus built in.

Yeah, I saw on Wikipedia it supports two Gamepads. Weird. Guess I'll just have to out up with the squabbling over it!

So I'll get:

Wii Party and Nintendo land. (May get SMW 3d for me!)

I think I have two Wii motes so will get two motion pluses. Are the add-ons to the normal Wii motes as good as the Wii mote pluses?

Thanks guys.

Any tips for using it with small children?

@Charles

The games can be sold for £55 via Amazon Marketplace though; so that's a Wii U for £145 + the cost of Mario 3D World.

EDIT: lol, great minds. I'm keeping Rayman, selling Lego, buying Zelda and Mario. Hell yeah!

I was this close to buying it with the intention of flogging Rayman and buying Mario. But I just couldn't muster the enthusiasm to go through with it. I'll get one at some stage but I've got loads of unplayed games for the 360 that I want to get through and I'm pretty busy up until Christmas anyway. Maybe in the New Year. The new Mario game looks great, Lego City looks fun as does Pikmin but, and I just can't put my finger on it, but when it came time to pay I wasn't particularly excited and it almost felt like the only reason I was buying it was that it was fairly cheap.

I know I'm also still pretty pissed off at Nintendo for the woeful Wii U VC so far. Off screen play for classic titles is a great selling point for me personally but they are trickling out the games for some reason, with no sign of GC, N64 or even GBA games appearing at all. It may not be a selling point for many people, but if Nintendo had a near complete selection of VC games on the Wii U VC then that would be a selling point but it's just not a direction they are putting much momentum into.

I'll get a Wii U at some stage, the new Mario game looks really good fun, as does Mario Kart and the price at around £199 with a game is fine. At the moment though I just can't muster the enthusiasm to buy it which is a shame.

Got a Wii U for the boys Xmas, he's already got a few games - Lego City in the box and I got him Tank Tank Tank for a tenner. He's got a big back catalogue from his Wii as well.

What current Mario game would be more suitable for him? New Super Mario Bros. U or Mario 3d World? He is 6 if it helps and a pretty decent games player.

(Don't want to get him both straight away or he'll end up with too much to play)
