Nintendo Wii U

Miiverse is similar to letterbox on 3DS but with far less penises. This is both a good and a bad thing.

The SNES classic controller works only with Wii VC games at the moment (and probably forever) which is a shame, you can't even use it on New Super Mario Bros U if it's plugged into a wiimote. What is quite cool is that you can use the Gamepad as your 'TV' (without using an actual TV that is) when playing VC games and then you can use the classic controller.

It's a great machine though and aside from 3rd party support (which is still an issue) I don't think anyone on here has ever had much negative to say about it (it's more Nintendo in general). Now is also a great time to get one IMHO, as you have the few games that have been out since last Xmas either very cheap or bundled and you've got Mario 3D Land on Friday and Mario Kart 8 next year coming next year.

Even the HD 're-releases' of Wii Sports and Wii Fit actually have had a bit of effort put into them apart from an HD lick of paint as well, so potential for Xmas multiplayer silliness. Although NintendoLand contains possibly the best multiplayer games I've played almost ever.

EDIT: Or what everyone else said :facepalm:

The Wind Waker MiiVerse integration is lovely as well. The MiiVerse community is chocked full of charming little selfies and photos taken using the ingame camera. Collecting the little Tingle Bottles floating in the sea which also contain messages and photos is a wonderful little touch.
I find myself purposefully scanning the ocean for the battles as I'm flitting from island to island :)

@GAMST

MiiVerse on Wii U is like Letterbox but 1000 times better. A community of kind and charming gamers creating and sharing. It's perfectly integrated into the system, making it a doddle to share your thoughts during any game, with a screenshot, a doodle or a witty quip.

Here's my MiiVerse profile to give you an idea how it works.

Also, it's coming to 3DS next month!

Most of my posts are complete rubbish but I liked this one I did.

anyone know how to find out what my Nintendo network ID is, I definitely have one on the 3DS but it doesn't seem to display anywhere and the obvious option to send a recovery email doesn't seem to be on their website

You can only set up a NNID using a Wii U at the moment.

Decided against getting a PS4 this week and picked up a Wii U Mario/Luigi bundle instead. Not had much time with it yet, but so far I like it.

Just thought you'd all like to know.

I'm probably going to need a hard drive soon. I'm keeping an eye on this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0084LZIB8/) since it's going cheap at the moment, although obviously I'll wait and see what's on offer on Friday. That one looks like it only comes with a single USB lead though, am I right in thinking you need one of these 'Y' cables if it doesn't have a power lead?

Only if the drive needs it. Mine (a Toshiba Alu) only needs one connection.

What does the Wii U actually do in standby mode if you switch the option on, just download patches and that? I'm terrified I'll accidentally switch it off when the light's orange one day if I put that on, although the console does take an absurdly long time to power off when the plug is pulled I've noticed.
