Nintendo Wii U

Ok, big decision made. I've cancelled my PS4 pre order and will keep the money in my savings until around April next year and for now I'm going to order a Wii U. Something that wasn't on the radar at all until Super Mario 3D world showed its head this week :)

So, with me knowing nothing about the Wii U, what will I need? I already have a couple of Wii remotes and nunchucks from the Wii. Also how does the pad work? (dumb question but honestly not followed the Wii U as already said).

Game wise, I'm going with Mario 3D, The Wind Waker and probably Rayman Legends. Also, might pick up a family game we can all play :)

Ant further advice will be great.

Welcome to the fold my good man - you will enjoy the positive ambiance and bask in our warm glow of friendliness.

I posted this list earlier, but I'll tag it up with what I'd suggest

Deus Ex - if you've not played it, best version of the game

Wind Waker - you're getting this anyway

Skylanders - it's skylanders - you already know if you're getting it or not. My wee boy loves it.

Darksiders 2 - for shame, haven't played it yet but got it because it was cheap. From all accounts its a good zelda like, but not as good as the first

Zombi U - absolutely get this if you have any interest in survival horror games.

Blops 2 - it's cod.

Sonic Racing Transformed - really good racer, but has some strange difficulty spikes

Resi Evil Rev - it's a great resi game, if you've already played it on the 3DS I wouldn't bother with the wiiU, but it should be played at least somewhere (also available on PS3 and 360)

Batman Arkham City - good version of an older game you've probably played already. Some good gamepad integration

Rayman Legnds - best version of a great game

NSMBU - best 2D platformed since SMW in my humble opinion

Tank Tank Tank - fun for the kids

Lego City - absolutely genuinely hilarious and not like other Lego games. Must buy

from eshop

Pikmin 3 - gorgeous, a must buy

WiiSports Club - YMMV, young kids will struggle with this more than regular wiisports tennis

WiiFit U - a good all round package and really cheap if you've already got a balance board

Pokemon Battle - probably wouldn't bother but the kids might like it, not essential

Dungeons and Dragons - old school, like goldenaxe

Nintendoland - excellent family game, very much under-rated, essential

TW101 - hardcore and oozes fun and colour. The type of game you rarely get on other platforms. Id say it's essential

Cloudberry Kingdom - strangely compelling but ultimately a bit pointless, not essential

Trine 2 - gorgeous looking and best controlled with wiimote and nunchuck, essential

Duck Tales - if you liked the original you'll like this, if not, you won't, not essential

Toki Tori 2 - unusual and original puzzler. I find it really hard. Not essential

Need for Speed Most Wanted - best version of the game, but expensive online. Not essential

Monster Hunter 3 - absolutely amazing game, but an acquired taste. Essential, if you don't have a 3DS

Giana Sisters - wouldn't bother as they haven't patched it yet to get gamepad sound. Not essential

Punch out - nes original

Balloon Fight - new original

Super Metroid - classic, gamepad and save states really make it better. Essential

Donkey Kong - nes original

F-Zero - see super metroid

Kirby's Adventure - see super metroid

Earthbound - if this came out today on the phone, people would say it was brilliant. Retro style hasn't aged. Essential

Final Fight 3 - I love it

Castelvania IV - apparently a classic, haven't really played it

Art Sketch Pad - I'm rubbish at drawing, if you're not, like Epcotman -it's great

Nano Assault Neo - very nice looking but strangely lacking in soul. Not essential

Super Mario World - what more to say. Essential

Karaoke U - great fun, rental model... try out the free trial

Zen Pinball 2 - worth buying, but got a really strange way of buying tables.

The Cave - it's on iOS now, if you've got a phone or tablet, get it there. If not, it's not bad

Kung Fu Rabbit - not a bad wee platformer, not essential

Might Switch Force - better suited to 3ds

Little Inferno - unless gamepad is really important, get on a pad if you have one. Not essential

Chasing Aurora - really nice looking but multiplayer only, super sprint but birds instead of cars

My 3DS list is embarrassing - although I suspect DeKay has even more than mine.

I do remember someone at the Bath meet declared my 3DS as 'the worlds most expensive 3DS'...

I'll do that though, will be interesting to go through.

In the meantime, my mum just bought a WiiU.

£199.99 with either Zelda or the new Mario and Nintendo will potentially do ok this Christmas. Breaking that under £200 barrier is key.

How likely is this? I really fancy a bit of Mario, but paying £270 for the privilege is a bit of a stretch when a PS4 + game can be had for shy of £400. £200 for the premium Wii U and Mario and I'd be there.

Wow, thanks for that. Very helpful. Also thanks for the welcome :)

Can you play the virtual games you bought on Wii on the Wii U. I've had Ghouls n Goblins and a few others on virtual console and not touched them yet.

Again, thanks for all the feedback.

I just got a premium, nsmbu and luigi for £199.99 in plays one day sale.

At that price is was almost impulse. 2 games I would always buy, that will hold at probably a £50 value (combined) second hand for their life.

I think that'll be a standard price by Xmas.

My understanding is that bar Ice Climber and Super Metroid, all of the Virtual Console games are the US? 60Hz version. Njntendolife is a good resource to confirm for Kid Icarus.

Many thanks. Downloaded it and it certainly looks full speed. My word. It's certainly hard.

Also downloaded Edge while I was there. The music is bloody lovely.
