Nintendo Wii U

I don't watch a lot of TV but have noticed PS3 ads (the one which mentions it has skylanders, lego marvel, and walking with dinosaurs) and also some for the 3DS (pokemon, AC etc.).

Has Nintendo stopped advertising the Wii U on TV? Apparently, some people buy things like that for Christmas.

Seen loads of Wii U adverts recently. Mostly for Wind Waker, but one today I caught just the end few seconds of for Mario 3D World. There's a Wii U specific Skylanders one too.

I found Rayman far harder, specially the invasion levels. Origins was harder than Legends though.

I found Rayman pretty easy, apart from one single one of those invasion levels and that stupid music level right at the end where the screen keeps going fuzzy so you can't see what you're meant to do. I played it so much that I got used to how Rayman controlled though, and Mario controls very differently. I'm still in a mindset of holding down the jump button to hover whenever Mario is falling to his death!

It's all me, though, the only control issue I have is the totally dumb way that all the shoulder buttons do that same almost-useless spin thing instead of mapping sprint there. It means I'm trying to do time trial levels by pressing sprint and jump with the same digit and it's far more awkward than it needs to be. Very annoying design.

That's how it's been since SMW. Apart from spin jump being on 'X'.

The R trigger during a jump for that little feint becomes mightily useful once you work out when to implement it.

Yeah I can see it'd have its uses (like that level where you have to avoid the fireballs) but for a speed-run I'd rather just have sprint on the shoulder so my thumb can just focus on jumping. It's more annoying because they used four buttons for this spin move when two would have been more than enough and the other two could have been for sprinting (or mappable to whatever the player wanted, or anything).

Just needs footage of families all playing together in Christmas jumpers, and some terrible strap-line like "bringing the whole family together with U."

Sold.

That kind of advertising brings out ad companies out in rashes at it's so unsophisticated but it worked a treat for wii 1. Doing the same alone though wont work again as lots seem to think it's a tablet that is connected to the original wii at £200 plus.

Seems like I've achieved a Wii U will be bought on the family budget after it has recovered from this year's Christmas shock. Which will probably mean the end of January. My campaign to indoctrinate my wife by setting her children up against her after feeding them Mario 3D World trailers worked a charm.

Go #TeamNintendo!

Oh man. Nobody warned me about the updates!!!

My lad is doing his nut.

He's going to bed in 5 mins and we haven't got to play anything yet! #worldwar3

Game pad had to update.

Console had to update. Took ages.

Now it's downloading update to system memory!!! Gah! I don't even know what this means.

I thought it had just done that?!

Now it's installing update to system memory!!!

Nintendo have created a strange situation here!

As I have previously said.. 90% of the time i am playing games on the gamepad only. The graphics look nice and i actually quite like the pad itself (the dpad is the best i have used in years). I just feel now that I don't want to use my 3DS anymore! I enjoy the 3d effect in most games, but the wii u outputs much, much nicer graphics.

I hardly ever use my 3DS outside the house anymore, and the small screen is difficult to go back to (i nearly got a 3ds xl but wasn't getting as much use out of my 3ds at the time). To me - this kinda makes the system a bit useless now however there is still great games coming out on the system, so i won't be getting rid of it just yet (Probably will get Zelda at xmas).

Does anyone else wish that we could just download HD/upgraded versions of 3DS titles and play them on our wii u's? (even if it was just gamepad only).

Kinda think Nintendo are competing against themselves here and that maybe in the future they would be wise to have a home/handheld system only. If the wii u had all the 3DS games i think it would have been in a better situation than it is now. Would it affect people purchasing the 3ds version? Maybe... but they would want portable versions anyway so no reason not to skip that version.

Smash bros for example - they are making two versions. Why would i want a 3DS version when i can play it on my big screen and on my gamepad around the house? Sure, it will have different levels etc to the wii u version but that time could have been better spent on the wii u version. Obviously a lot of kids like taking a 3DS around with them so my point is a bit mute, but certainly i can see this happening in the future.

I'd love a way of streaming your game over the internet.. surely if the wii u pad uses a form of wifi this perhaps could be possible in the future.

Over the past 12 months, there were a mixture of rumours and wishful thinking that Nintendo would bring out a dongle to play 3DS games on the Wii U. What seems to be more likely is that there'll be ports of 3DS games, like Luigi's Mansion 2 (as speculated). It'd be an easy way to plug the gaps in the Wii U release schedule.

Ok so we got a couple of games in before his bedtime...

Nintendo land - we played a couple of rounds of the Mario chase game and he loved it, I did let him win though.

Next we tried the Luigi ghost game, He kept cheating by looking at my screen!!!

Really impressed so far, very kid friendly.

I liked the way in the chase game my mug was in the corner of the screen on the tv! Cool.
