Nintendo Wii U

I'm sure there will be about a billion other awesome bits in the game they haven't spoiled though.

True, but they did give away some great surprises that would have been best for people to discover while playing rather than watching a video. And even if you wanted to avoid it, their official accounts promptly gave away the biggest spoiler on their Twitter feed.

I'm thinking of "fucking off" my next gen pre-order and getting the next £199 Wii U console bundle that pops up...

I've never owned a Wii and I'm not sure what I'll need in terms of controllers etc for local 2-4 player NSMBWU, Super Mario 3d World, Rayman Legends and Nintendoland over Christmas. Do I need Wii sticks? Do they have to be motion plus and do they need those nunchuck things?

I find it all a bit daunting to be honest but it could be absolutely amazing over Christmas with Nieces and Nephews etc when it's all set up.

The Wii U is a next gen console. Next gen means the generation of systems it belongs to, not its technological capability.

You should probably get a few wiimotes (either official ones at £25 from sainsburys or thre are cheaper third party options, and cheaper still versions from china on aliexpress or ebay although quality may vary)

nunchucks likewise.

Other than that, you will be good to go.

I did this very thing. Reading the PS4 reviews has given me a nice warm smug feeling inside. NSMBU is brilliant, much better than the Wii game, and 3d World looks utterly amazing, neither 'next gen' (lol 900p and dodgy framerates) will have anything to touch the Wii U library for at least a year.

Same, I know very little about it.

I hope I can keep it that way.

East egg I read today (by accident)

There are 10 secret 2D Luigis hidden in the levels. Pretty cool little easter egg.

Yeah, that was announced when they said that

Super Luigi Bros was going to be available as an unlockable

a couple of weeks ago.

I don't believe you.

Don't make me present evidence. I'm telling the truth, man.

See, I saw your spoiler in headlines but didn't read any stories so didn't know about Hellcock's.

Just because news has been released, doesn't mean everyone has read further into it.

None of them were to me. Most have been in ONM or previous trailers, and the "special toad mode" was floating round various sites last week.

The

unlockable character

wasn't known about until yesterday. I challenge you to show me a source where it was published before then.

Yeah, £1.80 for each which gets you 4 extra levels (+ 1 for free) for the Treasure & Battle modes. They are only reworkings of existing levels but different enough to still be great. I've been playing it with the mrs so much that we've barely touched the single player game. I'll happily admit I was never really sure how well Nintendo could do DLC but so far it's been the right amount of content, at the right price. I can't wait for the brand new levels although it will be interesting to see how they price it, anything over a fiver and it might put me off.

There's a silhouette of Rosalina on the character select screen. I'd say that was pretty much confirmed.

Only after that's been unlocked, no? Videos I've seen of people starting the same see them choosing Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad in order and then it continues to loop back around to Mario.

The news story you posted was guessing because there was a stamp with them on. There's also a stamp with another character on who is used in a completely separate mode, and isn't a playable character. As I said, complete guesswork and no confirmation.

I'm doing my best, but people just want shoot all da manz, shinier edition. :(

I'm not so sure about that. COD sales are down, Assassin's Creed is down. Publishers are claiming its fatigue of this generation and people will buy for next gen instead, but I'm not so sure.

I'm sure the new PS and Xbox launches will do well in the first few weeks, but I think people are getting tired /bored of the same formula games - especially if you have to fork out 500 quid for the privilege.

Don't know if that means more Wii U sales, but might mean lower overall game sales. We'll see.

Yeah, I have found most of my friends have a general meh attitude to gaming at the moment.

Something needs to change, otherwise I can see the gaming industry having a major crash in the next couple of years.
