Three things changed my mind:

1: Super Mario 3D Land - It just looks incredible and packed full of fun, wit and inventiveness. It reminds of how drunk with excitement I felt exploring Super Mario Galaxy and realising that Nintendo cannot be touched at their best. Oh and you have full control. That's nice in a game, right? I do have my concerns but overall it looks sublime.

2: Watching some old videos of the Metroid Prime series. Despite their passionate fanbase and critical success I still believe these games are SORELY under-championed. They are so fucking good. They are so....videogames. They're just wonderful. I love them, I actually love them. They are classics, almost obscenely good. And it's pretty much only Nintendo who make stuff like that (I know its second party).

3: Ruminating on the nature of Nintendo. We need them. Boy do we fucking need them, for all their faults. There is no-one else like them around. I'm really hoping they're going to knock it out of the park with the next Zelda.

Smitty, come to me. Let me embrace you.

Mine turned up at 11.15 am. Can't wait to get in :)

Just remember that the initial update is quite big and can take some time - if you really need to, hit cancel and it'll download it in the background still so you can get on with playing stuff.

I know Retro said they were done with Metroid Prime but I'd love another one like the first one. I've got all three and enjoyed them but the first was just majestic. I don't know what it is about it, cos it was the first or because it was after so long or what.

And one plus point for Nintendo is that they rarely announce games well in advance. Stuff like X and Shin Megamei Tensei x Fire Emblem seem to be exceptions these days, though I'm not sure what's going on with Bayonetta 2.

A couple of zombie-spawning examples:

When you're going through the flats (to recover some book for the dude in the lab?) and there's the room with the dance music/lights on. I literally saw about 10-12 zombies spawn in that room and I know all the surrounding areas were clear. Thank god I had a molotov. The keypad incident was in the palace around the area that's on fire - I tried the keypad for the locked door then suddenly had half a dozen zombies charging at me. It might have been when I crossed a certain threshold but it coincided beautifully with using the door.

I'm sure there were more but I can't think of them at the moment.

If the cricket bat get's better with more zombie kills I've never noticed it - I've lasted for hours on a single survivor and it's never felt particularly different.

I'm not saying it's a bad game but it's not quite the masterpiece that some people would have you believe.

For the music room, they never spawned for me, they were always there, in a trance, listening to the music. Until I 'set about' them. Sounds like maybe you saw a glitch? A load do come in via an air duct just around there as well iirc.

For the keypad one, they came from the next room (the one with the scaffold) - once you get so far past the little barricade you hurdle over they spot you and come running from there.

Paedo-meter is excellent. Amazing how many calories you burn by just walking around (I did 2000 yesterday - and I only went out for an additional walk at lunch time). Uploading is a breeze.

Was initially disappointed as it would not indicate nearby paedos, but got over that.

Don't mean to be a party pooper. But a lunchtime walk will not burn 2000 calories, At best you are looking at about 100 calories a mile.

Unless you walked a good 20miles you didn't burn that. :(

I am rather tempted by WiiFit U though.

I think he means 2000 calories all day as he mentioned he only did an additional walk

Burning 2,000 calories in a day would have to include at least an hour doing vigorous cardio. A 10K run at a moderately fast pace will only burn 600-700 calories, so LaveDisco's point is completely valid. He'd still have to walk 20 miles that day.

Today I've walked ~6km which only equates to ~350 kcals. Even in a highly active day, I'll be lucky to burn 1500-1600 (excluding breathing and warming my blood and general living, of course).

Moora, do you have it clipped to tightly your hip on a tight belt or does the Fit Meter flap about on a loose bit of material?

Shirubagan, I think you've made the same mistake I made. They've upped the total calories they burn in a day to 2000 with the addition of a short walk (of maybe a couple hundred calories).

I currently burn about 2300 a day as a slightly active 75kg/12stone man. (42kg down over 18months. Booom!)

Yeah, you're probably burning that at rest on a daily basis. I assume the fit meter is supposed to be tracking extra calories though, in which case I think mine is severely over estimating. In fact i'm pretty sure it's tracking steps at a 20% higher rate than my 3DS.

My fitmeter is tracking when I'm in the car or train... Which is a pest. I've also moved it to the other side as I suspect my bag was hitting it and registering.

My results over the weekend (little use of car and a 2 mile walk) were much more in line with what I would expect

Ah. Gotcha.

I was also measuring calories burned through activity, excluding the processes of being alive, as I stated in my post.

Also, congrats on the weightloss :)

Oh fucking hell, Makar. The cutest thing that has ever been imagined.

Back in the day, playing this with my ex, we used to literally scream with delight everytime he appeared on screen. Utterly adorable.

When he pulled out his violin we almost had mutual heart attacks.

So bought (at some point).

Oh my god I hope the Mario game is great.

I have found the look of the New Super Mario Brothers games very boring unfortunately. It's one of the things that have put me off the Wii U - Nintendo getting stuck in a creative rut.

3D World looks wonderful though. Fingers crossed.

I hope Nintendo do a new Metroid game that's nothing like Other M.

I really help the new Zelda is a revolution for the series. TP and SS didn't excite me from what I saw.
