Nintendo Wii U

Slightly random, however GAME are doing a decent trade-in deal for a Wii-U. I'm basically only buying it for Wind Waker HD. I cannot see any other games that are really decent on the Wii-U. I'm not into the side scrolling Mario games, nor Pikmin. Very interested in Mario Kart Wii, a new Zelda and a 'proper' Mario, however it seems only Mario Kart Wii is even forthcoming (does that even have a release date?) Any other games especially worth buying the Wii-U for?

Hmm, Super Mario 3D land looks OK. However, a long time after the console was released it still seems there are barely any decent games. When's Mario Kart meant to come out? Also, are the likes of Assassins Creed or Call of Duty going to be any good on the console, or is better to buy a PS3/4 or Xbox One? I can get the 32GB with Zelda HD for about £150 after trade-in, so it's cheap but not entirely sure it's a good idea...

I think we're all expecting Mario to be a bit better than okay. And Land is the 3DS version.

Mario Kart is slated for a spring 2014 release but Nintendo so don't count on it. I think people here said AC3 and COD were competent and scott praised them (I know, I know).

If you're expecting third party offerings to be good then, erm, don't. Deus Ex HR sounds like it's the definitive console version but it's a 2 year old game. New Zelda is supposed to be next Christmas. Oh there's Monolithsoft's X which is due next year, that looks very promising.

If you want to play those games long term in the best quality with a large online userbase aswell, you'll be needing to invest in a system from Microsoft or Sony, or for the nitpickers out there, a more expensive PC if one wants the 'best' fidelity. A Wii U is bought for Nintendo games, I wouldn't count on anything else to be available on it long term, for that, an investment in another platform is the more sensible investment, availability of other people's games should not be something I'd count on if buying a Wii U as a primary game system.

Love Nintendo games, can't live without them, buy a Wii U, just don't expect much in the way of third party support.

That about sums up every Nintendo home console since the N64, really. Wii did better for third-party support, but the truly outstanding third party titles were still in fairly short supply.

The Wii, going by retail titles, still has the most third party titles of any current generation game system, so the old meme about the winner gets all the games is true, just unfortunate the games it did get, nobody here generally gives a shit about.

Mario 3D WORLD, dammit. Not Land!

Anyway, FWIW, I'm getting the Wii U versions of Assassin's Creed IV, Watch_Dogs and Lego Marvel Super Heroes. I have a 360 and a PS3 but the Wii U is console of choice now.

Wii-U's certainly been my console of choice this year too.. I've even found myself picking up multi-format stuff on it over the 360/PS3 (with the likes of AC3 & Splinter Cell) I'll probably opt for Lego Marvel on it too.

Its actually quite scary how many games I've picked up over the past few months alone.. barely managed to give any of them the attention they deserve either :(

So Super Mario 3D world looks pretty cool actually, however I'm not going to be playing mulitplayer games. Is it still worth getting?

I bought a Wii-U today. First impressions are that it's quite slick, but the home screens and loading are all very slow and cumbersome. Kind of like the Wii was-I hated waiting ages just to load the Nintendo Shop channel etc. I've only played Zelda Wind Waker HD for about 5 minutes but it does look great. I think I've downloaded a Zombie Wii U demo, there aren't many other demos available. The Mii Universe seems a bit confusing. The controller's a bit weird, strange to hold such a massive thing to play a game with but I can see the advantages of having the screen. Thinking about pretty much every Nintendo console I've owned, apart from the Rare days 90% of the games I bought were the Nintendo titles. It's a shame that the console has been out a while with still no release date for Mario Kart, the next 'proper' Zelda seems a year away at minimum and Super Mario World 3D looks good but doesn't feel like a 'proper' Mario game. I'm sick of the Mario games with so much emphasis on side scrolling.

Why stick to looking for the established Nintendo franchises though..

Just get yourself whatever appeals from the likes of Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter, Lego City and enjoy the here and now.

Oh and ZombiU should be an essential purchase for every WiiU owner despite what you end up feeling about the demo.

The other titles you crave will be along soon enough... and most of all just enjoy your purchase! ;)

Ahhh, I accidentally fell on Thursday and grabbed my Gamepad in the process of falling, now I've got a really irritating purple mark on the screen whenever it's showing something darkish. Not there at all on lighter backgrounds. :(

Urgh, not good. I've also had my controller's touch screen damaged too, by moisture in my case. Seen (supposed) replacement Wii U controller screen parts on Amazon and somewhere else, I'm get one of those if I knew that they were legit...

.

No sane person plays a mario game for its multiplayer. Mario games are single player experiences first and foremost and all the more glorious for it.
