Super castlevania is fucking brilliant. It starts off a little slow with some gaudy visuals, but it soon builds up to be the finest 2d castlevania ever (at least before all that awesome metroidvania stuff kicked in). The bosses are highly imaginative, while there's some superb mode 7 effects and imaginative level design.

And the music. The music is absolutely immense, delivering one of the SNES's finest ever soundtracks that just drips with menace and suspense. There are lots of neat little touches - the multi-directional whip being particulalry sweet - crazy looking enemies and cracking sound effects. It's beautifully paced and really gives you the impression that you're on an epic journey.

Some will say that Rondo Of Blood is better, but those people are wrong. You can even moonwalk down stairs like Michael Jackson. We did a making of a few months back (issue 119) and I played through it for 'research'. It's still utterly amazing and a perfect example of just how ahead of the curve Kona,i was during the 16-bit period.

Agree with everything apart from the bolded bit. Easily the best Castlevania.

I preferred SotN, although that's practically an entirely different genre.

I'll be buying this. I already have the cart, the VC download on my Wii, and the ROM on my Xperia Play. I love voting with my wallet at times.

If you transferred your Wii over to the Wii U, won't you get this version at a discounted price?

Well at least someone is listening to the people's wish for another futuristic racer...

Though I've never been a big fan of Shin'en's output so far, I do think they're a capable developer, delivering what are most of the times rather visually impressive games. So maybe this'll tide us over til Nintendo decides to finally make the one F-Zero game to end all others.

I think the gap I've had between Ass Creeds should make 3 bearable for £12.

I did almost all of the side mission crap in the other ones as I played it over a while so it didn't grate too much. If I'm Interspersing AC3 with Phoenix, Zelda WWHD and GTAV, it can't be that bad, surely?

Thing is, it isn't a bad game. It's just a bad Assassin's Creed. If you're into the series you need to play it for the story, though.

I enjoyed it, but hated most of the extra stuff. Hidden tombs and buying buildings and stuff in the previous games were far better than the naval battles and shit that replaced them.

Fair enough, I played all the previous ones through to the end, so I wouldn't mind finding out what happens, even though the storyline and everything does seem to be getting progressively more bonkers, the bit at the end of the last one with Altair and everything was actually quite cool.

I'll just try and ignore some of the side stuff. Did it ever get a Wii U patch, as I know there were loads of bug problems on everything else to begin with.

Was it the homestead stuff that is really to be avoided? I seem to remember that being mentioned.

Does anyone know if there is any way to tone down or turn off the vibration on the game pad? It's mostly fine but I find with some games like NFS and Wonderful 101 that it vibrates like crazy and makes loads of noise which can be annoying when someone else is trying to watch the telly.

Hold down the home button, then controller settings and then turn the rumble off.

Nintendo in Xmas fightback

Nintendo has booked in-store space at Tesco, will send a five page leaflet to 300,000 Tesco customers that bought a Wii but have yet to buy another console, and even give away vouchers offering money-off games

That is on top of TV ads for all its big franchises – including Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda, which will run ‘continuously from half-term to Christmas’. There will also be national press advertorials, major online activity, plus a huge out-of-home promotional tour aimed at reaching 115,500 shoppers.

Nintendo says its combined Wii U and 3DS marketing budget is ‘significantly higher’ than that of last year.

“We haven’t had the sales we wanted on Wii U hardware. We haven’t had the software for most of this year. But we have some quite ambitious numbers, particularly with some of our biggest franchises coming,” said UK marketing director Shelly Pearce.

I would like to order a Wii U this month. I've had quite a sustained period of not being able to regularly play games over the last couple of years, bar a couple of interesting and frustration shedding exceptions (hence my Lost Levels thread in Retro Gaming). I still have a load of Wii games I haven't even bought yet including Super Mario Sunshine 2, Pikmin 2 and 3 and Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is annoying but also great that I still have those to look forward to.

The black 32GB pack on Amazon is £239 right now and for about a tenner more I can get the same thing with the HD Wind Waker thrown in, but it looks like download only. Am I missing anything "out of the box" by not getting the physical copy? Seems like simple purchase to me, other than that. Just wanted to vocalise my excitement at finally getting a new console as I haven't done so for years now and Nintendo have made this a really great proposition for me. I also need to list out all the great games I've missed during the time I've been inactive so I can properly get back into it. Few retard questions, though:

- Are all new games available digitally now through the store, or only some of them, or are no new games available digitally bar a few promotional exceptions? I really do fancy going digital from now on.

- When I sign in after setting the console up will I be able to re download all my Virtual Console purchases?

- I take it it'll play all Wii and GameCube games?

- Looking at the product description it looks like it comes with all the proper HD cables out the box. Is this the case? With all previous consoles I've had to shell out for another cable to get the best looking experience. Do I need to order anything with this to get the best from the console?

:)

- Just some lovely box artwork... for a tenner more, it's definitely the way to go.

The majority of games are available online with some notable exceptions, mainly earlier releases.

- When I sign in after setting the console up will I be able to re download all my Virtual Console purchases?

-

No. But you can transfer your details from the Wii and then play them on 'Wii mode' on the WiiU. You can still access the Wii VC from the WiiU when in Wii mode.

- I take it it'll play all Wii and GameCube games?

-

Wii only I'm afraid... no backwards compatibility with GameCube.

I suspect it's a business thing other than technical - they want to do HD remakes of some GC classics.

Comes with an HDMI cable out of the box.

You can get the majority (if not all digitally)

All Wii games work and you can use the Gamepad as your TV (it works as a sensor bar too)

VC games for some still inexplicable reason are linked to your other consoles - VC on Wii and 3DS are different

Cables are provided (in the premium at least).

EDIT: What Shigerucr said.
