Nintendo Wii U

Prove they're fake. (They'd posted a just dance video recently before the review to prove they had it. But granted that's just one example.)

Also I'm willing to dress as the third robot and waggle my arms and such.

So much joy.

Forget GC games. How can you emulate the analogue triggers?

Release a specific GC controller or utilise the touch screen?

I guess their thinking is "You can still buy them through the Wii Shop, now fuck off and buy some new games please."

Yeah, but off screen play must be an attractive option for Nintendo fans so would be an easy source of money from people 'upgrading'. Assuming that it is fairly easy to implement.

Yesterday, the wife managed to pick up Rayman from Sainsbury's for 17.50. I fear the amount of time I'll be able to get on the Wii u will now be significantly reduced. She's not a gamer, but put her in front of Donkey Kong Country, Puzzle Bobble or Rayman and she'll play for hours.

Ooooh. Is that half-price offer on all games still going, then?

It's a shame Deus Ex is so ridiculously overpriced on the eShop. I know it's a Square-Enix thing rather than indicative of malign forces at play within Nintendo, but £29.99 when it's a tenner less on PS3 is just exploitation, really.

And then Squeenix won't release anything on the Wii U because of low sales...

I'm a little miffed that the new Assasins Creed 4 ads only mention ps3 and 360...why no mention of the Wii U version?

if the ads don't mention the PC, X1 and PS4 versions either then that's your answer - for some reason the Wii U version will release alongside the next-gen entries even though it will probably look and perform more like the old-gen ones.

What's a kusoge

It is literally a shit or crap game (Kuso=shit or crap), it also forms part of the slang term for a game originating from the West in Japan (yoge kusoge), old Western games soured the average Japanese gamer many moons ago with their bugs and inferior gameplay and the taint still lingers, much like the average Western gamers view of J-centric product these days, 2 sides of the same coin.

Did somebody already pay to port the base game to the Wii U or something to justify a director's cut getting released at a lower price? £30 for a game, hardly a ripoff when people will pay more for similar old games, considering how many copies they'll likely end up selling, still won't make any money, even at that price, explains why it went from an exclusive to a multiplat at launch.

Anybody read EDGE's article about why you should by a WiiU? I thought it was quite funny coming from a magazine that's dropped shit review after shit review on WiiU games (cough...LEGO city...cough...Wonderful 101).

Yeah, I thought it was good. It felt more like a personal opinion piece than the collective mindset of Edge and it definitely echoed my own feelings this year of needing a Wii U above all else. Especially in the wake of next gen hype and fierce competition over 2 products that are essentially the same. Wii U has stealthily presented itself as the most fun, most satisfying, most original new console and now has the year's best lineup of games.

Anyone picked up Mario Party? Was wondering if it might be fun at Christmas. Tried to glean this from the Eurogamer review, but the reviewer seemed more keen on beating the life out of tortuous analogy comparing the game pad to a party guest or some shit than explicitly providing a review.

There were extra paragraphs after those first two in the Wii Party U review. They talk about a game a bit beyond then.

I picked it up today. It's lovely and excellent. I've only tried the "Highway Rollers" mode, which is essentially a long up-to-10-dice version of Snakes and Ladders where each round of turns is, like Mario Party, prefaced by a minigame which determined how many dice the players get to roll. Landing on some squares boosts you forward, some back, some land you back on another player's spot. It's pretty basic, but enjoyable and cute.

The Balldozer mode was fun; same minigame fun between rounds but this time to determine how many balls you get to drop into a machine the same as those 2p shoving shelves you played in Blackpool when you were ten and your mum was chain-smoking at the electronic-bingo. If you manage to cause some to drop over the bottom shelf you earn points, different types being worth more. Later rounds spice it up with a bonus ring which will drop an "avalanche" of balls.

The wee tabletop football game where two players hold a vertically oriented gamepad from opposite sides and use only the analogue stick to jostle an entire team of players each was hectic fun. It's almost a game of seeing who can avoid the most own goals, and all the better for it.

There's a wee screwball scramble game too, played in the same manner, where you get the points for reaching the goal with up to three balls before your opponent manages there. Split into three sections and a second stage just unlocked for me. I haven't tried that yet. Just getting the tea on, bit o' black forest gateaux and I'm gonna try another of the meatier modes.

I'll post some impressions once I've played it a bit longer.

I like it a lot. I will play it a lot over the life of the Wii U. [5]
