Nintendo Wii U

I'm currently working a marketing campaign to win over the wife that we need one of these in the living room because the children love Mario so much and multiplayer will be great etc.

What I did not say is that I've been showing the last Mario 3D World trailer to my children at least 10 times since it was released.

Honestly, for £200 with 3D and 2D Mario, Zelda (albeit a remake) and the promise of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, it's in the exact sort of territory that people have said that gamers would take a punt on. The Wii U probably won't dominate but it will chug along just fine I reckon.

Club Nintendo have got a Year of Luigi in stock for 1500 points if anyone interested. As an avid collector of Nintendo tat I've ordered one already.

I just blew all my points on the Nintendo characters statue last week as there was nothing else decent to buy :(

I'm on the cusp of cancelling my PS4 as I've still got Rayman, Lego City, Zelda and Pikmin to play and Super Mario 3D World is far more exciting than any of the PS4 launch titles. Some amazing games for the Wii U, I hope it gets the sales boost it deserves in the near future.

It makes me feel so warm to know that so many new people are about to discover how brilliant the Wii U is.

Although today I had to do a system update to perform a software update in order to be able to play Sonic. The download was slow and then I got an error code halfway through because the console lost the wifi signal for half an hour for some reason. I was hoping those days were behind Wii U. Not if my anecdotal evidence is anything to go by. Must have taken the best part of two hours from inserting the disc to playing the game all while there was absolutely no problem with my Wifi.

So that wasn't so great. Incredibly, I still ended up enjoying Sonic and chatting with fellow believers on Miiverse.

This keeps popping up on my Wii U for a few frames at a time and it's really annoying:

Like, it's literally half a second, if that, then it disappears and everything's fine again. It might do it in clumps as well, three or four times straight after each other then it'll be fine again for a while.

Interference from my network perhaps? It's only ever happened on Wind Waker (I haven't played any other games since though), and whether I'm playing off screen or not (it does tend to do it more when in playing the game on the gamepad screen).

I started The Last of Us today. Despite having PS+ my system updated and then the game also updated to 1.05(!). It took about 15 minutes all in on a good connection. Seems good though.

I bought the Zelda Wii U bundle today. It was rude not to at that price! It's being put back until December, though.

Popped into Sainsbury's on the way home from work and bought a couple games. Pikmin 3 was marked up as £34.99, but went through at £17.50. LEGO City Undercover LE was priced at £22.50 as well. So I got that one too.

Christmas is going to be amazing.

I'm almost finished wind waker hd so I'm going to get a new game today.. I told myself I'd only get one game at a time so I'm having a hard time choosing whether to get Lego city or wonderful 101...

I've never played a lego game but the videos I've seen of LCU look fun and it's appealing to me for some reason. I really like the wonderful 101 demo.

I only get an hour or two(at most) of gaming a day so whichever one I get is going to be what I'm playing for a few weeks at least..

Which is generally considered to be the better game?

I'm cancelling my PS4. 99% expected as I'm broke and new income hasn't appeared. But there really are no games I'm bothered about and the Wii U has more games than I can shake a stick at.

Am tempted to do the same.

Could 2014 be a better year for the wii u? It sure seems that way. I read sales increased 200% following the release of wind waker HD. That is some serious upswing and I am sure Nintendo will now be putting even more effort into Zelda Wii U. I can't wait, I looked at the demo reel they showed way back at launch and it was amazing so just think what they have achieved since then.

I hope Nintendo pull another Wind Waker style reveal...

"Remember when we told you GameCube Zelda would look like this? We lied."

And in runs toon Link, to the utter horror of dudebros the world over

Also, newcomers to WiiU... Can't recommend ZombiU enough. Really scary game and well worth a play.

I'm scottcr on MiiVerse

I've not played Lego, but The Wonderful 101 is superb. It's great to play in bite size chunks as well, so no worries over not having enough time to commit to it. From what others say about Lego though, it seems you can't lose either way.

My vote goes to Lego City. It's such a lovely game, and it's one of the few games in all my years of playing where I've really laughed at the humour.

Loading times are pretty terrible when starting or resuming a game from boot up, and also bad at the very start when in the police station. With those bits out of the way it's fine, and shouldn't be something to stop you buying it.

The controller is also put to great use. The game doesn't support play on the pad screen, but the way it's used in the game is brilliant. Sometimes it's simply used as a map, other times a communication device where people contact you (like a video phone) and it also uses the gyroscope features, where you can hold the pad up to the screen and scan buildings.

Look, just get it. It's fantastic!
