Nintendo Wii U

Not interested. Bought for Rayman, then it got delayed.

The lesson here is don't buy a thing before it's actually released, I suppose. Though that would mean I wouldn't have bought one until Mario 3D in that case. Much as I'm liking Wind Waker it's not worth buying the console for.

It is your problem if they don't perceive the state of the platform using the same criteria as you.

You just completely ignored the point made in a response to you to quote 'The platform isn't in a "state"' out of context as proof of your statement that Wii U owners here are in denial. I could write a similar post about the use of "state" and "denial" in your post to try to explain to you what I personally think, relate it back to what you're claiming here and try to point out where the gap in our thought process is... but what's the point?

The post I was responding to was handwaving. Oh it's not in a state because of this other thing over here. That's all well and good, but I wasn't referring primarily to that matter when I talked about the 'state' it was in. In his opinion the platform isn't in a 'state' with regards to something that I wasn't addressing - do you see? I was using different criteria. You manage to mention this above seemingly without actually understanding the implications of your own statement.

I mean, when i'm obviously primarily talking about the success of the platform why change the subject of the word state (my meaning and my use) to another one (his opinion of the quality of the games)? A modified post of his that wouldn't have gotten the 'contrast quotes' treatment would have been 'the platform is in a state with regards to sales and public perception but not with regards to the quality of games'.

Also, given all of the above, I do think it is displaying a a reasonable amount of denial to respond to a comment about the success of the platform with a personal opinion about how the quality of games on the platform. It doesn't really follow. I didn't make a comment saying the WiiU has no games or that it has poor games, I made a comment saying, essentially, that it wasn't doing very well. Which is merely factual. It does rather smack of denial when the response to 'this is tanking' is 'BUT I LOVE THE GAMES'.

Great, good for you. No-one, least of all me, will deny you your enjoyment or your right or desire to express that. However it has no relevance to my opinion on how the platform is doing. Look you even do it in your post - you try to conflate my view of the success and perception of the platform with the opinion of someone else on the platform's games offering. It doesn't make any sense. These are two different things.

Notice that I won't be defining your posts as pointless. Even though saying that means I am definitely thinking it.

What kind of response were you expecting/hoping for? No one can win it seems.

(In this case, you're not saying anything new, you're not adding anything constructive to the discussion and you're not being entertaining or witty.) I see your point, but I honestly believe you fail to see the context.

And, again, no posts have the requirement to meet any of these arbitrary and subjective standards.

Important lesson learned. Never buy a console for a game that has been announced, imagine buying a PS3 for The Last Guardian.

I nearly picked up Wonderful 101 yesterday second hand for £25 but I hung on as I still have loads of WiiU games that I need to finish, and in some cases start, I'm also trying to resist buying anything else until the big launch on November 29th.

@Spainkiller, what you're describing is not just this forum but society and politeness. A bloke interrupting a discussion in a pub with a big old "What you're all talking about.....fucking rubbish is what it is!" is not going to be greeted with warm words and a clap on the back.

The drought at the beginning was completely ridiculous though and I don't think this should be another trouble with Nintendo but the lack of pretty much anything 'big' for that initial Xmas, ridiculously bad marketing this time around and also a really strange lack of utilising the VC back catalogue (even the existing back catalogue for the Wii VC) to pad out those dry months was really a bit strange.

I think it's an absolutely wonderful machine though, I've not had as much 4 (or 5, Five I tells ya, at once!) player fun on a console for donkeys years, probably back to Goldeneye, or maybe some of the GC games but if there's anyone that thinks hidden in plain sight or various other of those indie games are amazing 4P games, NintendoLand has all that amount of fun and it also look bloody nice too.

but the truth is that this is a place where you kinda need to work together with the rest of the people here

The truth? I think you'll find that's just another subjective opinion just like the criteria for a valid post that you've magicked out of thin air above. You don't actually need to 'work' (kinda or otherwise) with anyone here in expressing a stand alone expression of opinion.

How do you do the screenshot thing with forums? I'm trying it right now and getting nowhere.

just hit home, then the browser... go to rllmuk (for example) and when replying in a thread, press 'more reply options'. Once you've done that, click 'browse' to attach a file and it'll give you the option of sharing the main screen or the gamepad screen. Select whichever one and that's it. In rllmuk, you need to then attach the image to the post.

Windwaker is now causing a row between 10 year old son (playing it) and 14 year old daughter (very keen to tell him how he's doing it wrong).

They don't show this kind of scene on all those "family playing on the sofa" adverts do they?

Is it really a tenner these days?

It's been a tenner instore in Tesco for months. If you have a local branch, go and check - and make sure you scan it as they often still have some crazy old price labelled-up on them but do go through at a tenner.

It's a crazy overlooked title that deserved more.

EDIT: If that fails, it's only £11 (inc postage) from Currys/PC World on eBay:

In the end, the Wii U was just like a sandwich toaster. You know, you just forget you've got one. And it just sits there on the top of the cupboard collecting a layer of greasy fudge. And even if you do see it you just assume it's broken, you think if it's working I'd be using it all the time, but you don't and it just sits there. Then one day, you get an overwhelming desire for toasted sandwiches, you know? And you get it down and it works, and you can't believe it, you know? And then you make every kind of toasted sandwich there is, you have toasted sandwich parties. You make Marmite and cheese, chocolate and...

Tim: Pilchards.

Daisy: Banana and...

Bilbo Bagshot: Acorns.
