Nintendo Wii U

Bought Rayman Legends from Amazon cheap, played it, briefly, got that really sick-making feeling I get when I know that I've bought a really shitty game that I won't enjoy for a second. :( Serves me right for not noticing there was a downloadable demo on the eShop, playing that would have saved me from a terrible purchasing decision. Probably regret buying the Wii U in the first place more than the crappy game, mind.

Just to balance out the feeble whining of joyless people who wouldn't know a good console and game if it came up and bit them on the arse here's a Wii-U doing what it does best - entertaining eleven children between the ages of 4 and 12 with Nintendoland and filling a room with laughter and bitter recriminations.

Not totally. I've played Need for Speed on the Wii U pad whilst using the Pro Controller. Worked surprisingly well.

Where did you put the pad? I can't put it on my lap as then I have to crane my neck down to look at it, can't put it on the coffee table as then it's too far away.

I can't even balance the TV remote on there. I'm not going to manage a gamepad. And then how would I see it? It'd be right next to me.

Well, tell you what, would you like someone to come round to your house and try to find a solution or you? Or, as a grown adult, would you like another couple of hours to think about it?

Really pleasantly surprised that they fixed surround sound for Wii games, the lack of it was putting me off transferring my Wii saves. Maybe now I'll finally finish Xenoblade

I really wish they'd sort out some sort of optical adaptor for the Wii U. I'd happily pay for one. I use surround sound headphones for most of my gaming but they rely on an optical output and the Wii U hasn't got one - the only way to get surround sound out of the thing is via HDMI. Very frustrating. It means I'm unlikely to buy any multiplatform game on the Wii U even if it's the best version (AC3, NFSMW) because I can't get surround sound whereas it's no problem on PS3/360.

At least now I can use my old Wii cable to run a stereo signal out of the thing so it's a step in the right direction I guess.

I don't know, I don't know what your sofa's like. You just asked me where I put the screen.

I realise this is becoming incredibly tedious now, but...

If it's on the arm of the sofa, how do you look at it? Isn't it to your side? Surely you don't contort yourself 90 degrees to look at it? How is that comfortable?

I'd love to see a version of Apollo 13 with deKay playing all the major cast members.

"The oxygen tank has exploded! I don't know what to do Houston!"

"We don't know either. Totally out of ideas here mate."

"Well, Houston, I have no ideas either.I'll tell the crew to prepare for a painful death."

"Agreed. Do you know how to do that Apollo 13?"

"No. How would you do it?"

"We don't know."

"OK. I think I'll just sit here Houston quietly and await death as an inevitability. I'll just avoid the other crew members."

"Roger that."

I was wondering how others did it. I have no practical way of making it work.

Erm, unplug the charging cradle and use that? ;-)

Hopefully they can update again to allow the game pad controls to be mapped to the wii mote controls. Plus get the touch screen acting as a pointer. The game pad has motion built in (motion plus?) so most games would be compatible then.

That way I could play the awesome Pirates on the game pad.

It's a start.... Next thing would be to get it where the Wii U just starts the game, instead of going to Wii mode and then all of the faffing about. If they could get Wii VC and eShop games as icons on the Wii u pad, then it would be complete...

It's not like that at all. I know how to operate a gamepad. I just can't figure out how people can comfortably use it as a screen while using a different controller. I've tried, and can't. The screen is always too far away (and I can't put it closer as there's nothing to put it on, and I can't find something to put it on as there's no space) or in my lap, which causes neck ache. I can't put it on the arm of the sofa as it's too thin, and even if I could I'd have to turn 90 degrees to face the arm, which wouldn't work either.

Now, if there was a way of strapping a classic controller to the gamepad, then maybe that might work. Or, you know, use the fucking buttons that are already on it.

Monster Hunter works fine on the pad too with Wiimote/CC Pro. Would assume Wii stuff would be suitable given that it's SD.

You just have to put the stand somewhere that's level with your head or slightly lower.

I love that this image is obviously the gamepad propped up in the kitchen so you can still play monster hunter while making dinner... haha

Ever considered doing one of those army training things where they drop you on a mountain range with a knife and a canteen of water and ask you to survive for 7 days?

That would be reality TV I'd pay to watch.

"How are other people doing this? I've tried balancing the Gamepad atop this boar carcass but it's just not happening."

I would also pay for an optical adaptor as my 5.1 system only has optical.

Zelda WW £45 no chance should be £30 max but think I will be waiting a long time before it hits that price

Considering geting one of these as a Christmas present for my lad. That £199 premium deal seems like a fair price to me.

Can all of the games on the Wii U be played away from a TV on the controller though? Ie could my son sit down and have a play of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes without even switching on the telly?

Get a bigger sofa. I don't know what to tell you. All I can say is that with a big comfy sofa, you don't have to relax back so your legs are hanging off it straight. Put a cushion behind you, stick the screen on it's stand on the arm of the sofa, works a treat.
