Nintendo Wii U

Great to see Wii Sports Club, the tennis will be amazing...

Although I'm surprised they didn't take the day pass idea and do it for Wii Fit U. Like a gym membership - make people pay a fiver a month for it....

So it's not that bad then? Wii Fit U is free if you buy the kiddy fiddler thing and Wii Sports club is a $10 (whatever that is in pounds) a sport - with full online functionality???

They should put together a "Wii Upgrade pack" for those that owned a Wii but it now gathers dust. Put in the pedomete and Wii Fit U disc, pre load it with Wii Sports Club and try to flog it to the 25 million that bought a balance board..

Is it possible to move content (eg. purchased wii games, save data) from one Wii U to another? I've just tried linking a second Wii U account to my NNID and it didn't work, but I assume I can de-activate my ID on the first console, transfer everything and then re-activate in on the new console?

Nintendo and their archaic account system

I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

If I bought a Basic console and purchase games from the Nintendo eShop, and then buy a Deluxe console and want to transfer those games, is that possible?

Transferring data from one Wii U to another Wii U is not supported at this time. However, we understand that this is a feature of interest to some consumers so we are taking that into consideration and are looking into this feature.

Pathetically, no.

You can't do it yourself no. Nintendo can do it though in the event of a console breaking etc.

I'm really happy with my wii u.

I spent the last few years thinking I had just gone off games due to getting older but since getting a wii u I realize that I still love playing colourful and cheerful games I just don't enjoy modern "mature" games in all their gritty brownness.

Got wind waker hd today:)

I have a pretty decent sized list of wii u games I want to play now, with more coming soon.

I would pos this post a thousand times if I could. Can 999 other people do me the favour?

Have you got Steam by any chance? It has loads of retro indie stuff that's just the thing you might be after, and oh so much cheaper then Nintendo retail!

I wish the Wii U had an HDMI in port which could be used to stream anything to the pad. It's taking me ages to get through GTA V as I'm knackered when I start playing it, versus epic Monster Hunter sessions where I'm only transitioning from pad to screen at that point.

Getting an awful lot of SNES Picross played instead

Rayman is fantastic indeed, even more so if you've not played Origins.

On another note: Wind Waker HD is £45 even as pre-order? Jebus, I'll wait. Should be £35 at most. Just got Kingdom Hearts HD Remix, which has 2 full games + 1 game turned into cutscenes and adds voice acting that wasn't in the original for £25, man!

It's not 45 quid for digital its actually 50 quid. Crazy price.

Bought Rayman Legends from Amazon cheap, played it, briefly, got that really sick-making feeling I get when I know that I've bought a really shitty game that I won't enjoy for a second. :( Serves me right for not noticing there was a downloadable demo on the eShop, playing that would have saved me from a terrible purchasing decision. Probably regret buying the Wii U in the first place more than the crappy game, mind.

I'll expect to see you offering the game in the trading thread for a bargain price :)

That'd be great but for the whole having to use the Remote thing.

It's more fiddly than it needs to be, but it's handy if you want to play VC games that haven't been upgraded yet. I wonder if they're actually going to try and make the GamePad compatible with Classic Controller and sideways-Wiimote games though.

Anyway, here are the release notes:

Version 4.0.0 U, available via an Internet connection, includes the following improvements:

New Features:

A feature to output video and sound to the Wii U GamePad when using Wii Mode¹

Users can choose to output to the TV and GamePad, or just the TV

A feature to automatically receive recommended software and demo titles from Nintendo using SpotPass

Support for USB keyboards

An option to disable use of a Nintendo Network ID on non-Nintendo hardware, such as PCs and smartphones

Support for Dolby® Pro Logic® II Surround Sound when playing Wii software

Changes to Wii U Menu:

Added a friend list icon to the Wii U Menu for easier access to the Friend List

Changes to System Settings:

An option to automatically receive recommended software is now available under "Internet"

A setting to select which cable outputs sound is available through "TV"

Users can choose to output sound through an HDMI cable, non-HDMI cable, or both cables at the same time. Click here for instructions

A setting to adjust the hourly interval in which standby functions are performed is available under "Power Settings" when Standby Functions are enabled

Changes to Wii U Chat:

Added the option to view a friend's profile on Miiverse when sending or receiving a chat request

Users can now chat using a headset connected to the Wii U GamePad

Changes to Internet Browser:

Pressing the R or L Buttons on the Wii U GamePad will skip video playback forward/back a small amount of time

Holding the R Button will speed up video playback

Ability to save username and passwords for websites that require login²

Ability to launch the Internet Browser during gameplay and upload screenshots

Added support for viewing PDF files³

Added features intended for website developers that allow the user to enable developer tools and set user agent

Improvements to system stability and usability:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience

¹ Wii software displayed on the Wii U GamePad cannot be controlled by the GamePad. This feature only allows Wii software to be displayed on the GamePad. A Wii Remote Plus or Wii Remote is required to play Wii software titles.

² Users can delete saved usernames and passwords from the Internet Browser settings.

³ Sometimes data may not be displayed correctly depending on the size and format of the PDF file. PDF files cannot be saved.

Ordered Zelda from shopto last night. I didn't think 39 quid was too bad, but then discovered I had 12 quid kicking around my PayPal account. Lovely.

With regards to the playing of wii games on the wii u controller, I can't see how it's going to work very well, but hope to be proven wrong
