Nintendo Wii U

3.61 million units, in 9 months, is abysmal?

Good lord. That's 1.4 million more than the Vita sold in almost twice as long.

Sure, it's not good. But abysmal? What does that make the Vita then?

I think the Wii U is going to do crazy numbers when Super Mario 3D World is released, multiplied by a huge amount when MK8 is released.

I don't think it's an easy comparison to make - the Vita has sold more (surpassed 4.5m units sold in April) but has been available for 9 months longer than the Wii U. If they're selling 160k Wii U's a quarter then does that mean in a 9 month period they'd only sell 480k? If so then it's going to sell less than the Vita in the same time frame, except the Vita software sales are very strong and the Wii U's really aren't.

Are the software sales really very strong?

I rather got the impression most owners were just sitting back and letting the free games roll in from PS+ - the odd PSN purchase aside I've not felt the need to buy a game for mine for getting on for 9 months and I still have a huge backlog courtesy of Sony's crazy generosity.

I don't think there's any £150 basic deals going at the moment. Got my basic from ShopTo, 2 weeks ago for £180, and so far it's been well worth it. The prices for the Basic seem to fluctuate daily.

You'll definitely need an external HDD at some point, as you only get 3GB after the update and that has all but gone through game updates.

Nah, I don't have one yet. But it does depend how big the game updates are. I've only got ZombiU and Nintendo Land on disc and now I only have around 1.5GB left after updates. Hopefully Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 don't have substantial updates as I'm getting those this week.

I like the first review:

By D. J. Ryan Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars

"Great game, but sells down CEX for £14 with bonus disc. £399 New, hilarious! You could buy a boat and have your own adventure for

that..."

£39.85 at ShopTo. Still quite pricey...

It is for a 10 year old remake with a bit of a rejig to a few bit. This really should have been no more than £30. I mean, I can get GTA5 for £30 through flubit at the moment. I have WW sat at home on my shelf. The pricing is nonsense.

Don't buy it then?

Personally I see it as the ultimate version of the game with sticking points and areas that people complained about ironed out. And it looks lovely.

Remember a while back people were saying 'oh, all I want is a widescreen HD wind waker' and they get it... and then they complain.

I won't, at the price. Doesn't mean I don't want it. Thing is, SOTC and Ico were released with lots of new bells and whistles at £30. The God of War pair from the PS2 at a similar price. This is one game, and we all know it's a stop gap to appease people this Xmas. Releasing it as a full price retail game is taking the piss for what is, basically, a tarted up 10 year old game with some of the sticking points smoothed out.

A new version of one of the greatest games ever made. What about OoT 3D? That's also worth every penny.

God of War was just an HD version of the existing textures and models. Same for SOTC and Ico. This is a complete overhaul. What about kids that were too young to play it at the time. There'll be people out there where Link Between Worlds and Wind Waker will be their first ever Zelda games... In Wind Waker worth less because there's a previous version? Dunno...
