Little plastic knick knacks. That's it as far as I can tell.

Edit: there is one minor advantage as far as they're concerned, which is that they can play with all their plastic figures lined up next to them and then scan them in whenever they want to use them. This is unbelievably cool to a ten year old (may not apply to all ten year olds).

Aye. My 7 year old loved the idea.

I'm gonna get it I think.

So if you can get all 600 Pokemon in the game without buying the figures. What advantage do the figures give you, particularly if you're buying blind?

Apart from it being cool.

You can power them up. change their moves and status, which all gets saved to the figure. With the other Pokemon you just have whatever random attributes they were assigned when you caught, erm, "befriended" them.

There are plenty of ways to disagree with a review, but the people in that comment thread rolling out "this got x/10 on Metacritic so ur review is RONG" will be the first against the wall...

So why haven't Nintendo advertised this game? Surely this is a prints money scenario yet I've not seen anything about this game apart from what's on here.

I have a theory that Iwata has privately become an inverted version of Eddie Murphy's character in Imagine That, with his great run hitting the skids when his child's imaginary friend starts offering him loads of shit business advice.

"Really? Send a memo to Shibata, telling him to lay off any advertising to a surefire winner? Sounds crazy, but if Shlubby says so..."

"He's also sure the best way to break the Mario delay is to announce a big Nintendo Direct for a week's time and say please understand at the end?"

I wondered the same thing when I got a spam email from NOE advertising it but not mentioning the plastic figures ANYWHERE. They've basically created Pokemon Skylanders, which should be a licence to print money, and they're trying to keep it secret!

me and my best friend have a gaming day once a month or so, she came over today and we played nintendo land from about 11.30 to 5pm with about a 45 minute break. played nothing else, just that.

absolutely brilliant fun. would love to get some more folk over for more japes.

with the wonderful 101 coming and splinter cell, they should keep me busy alongside dashings of pikmin 3 here and there for the next while.

ah, i do love my wii u

Does anybody else have ongoing problems connecting to the store or miiverse?

This afternoon I tried to connect over the space of a few hours and I continnually got a random error after a long delay of it trying to connect. Then it will be okay this evening and for a few days and then it will happen again. Really annoying.

I have tried static and auto addresses and every time the internet connection test works fine. I'm using a Virgin router and all my other devices work fine.

I had loads of problems, also with a Virgin router, but I bought one of those USB LAN adapters, set up a wired connection and I've not had a single problem with it since.

Can I ask which one you got please so I can try the same?

I've found my network connection to be a bit flaky, but I thought it was mostly down to a low signal strength at that part of the room. I bought one of those wireless plug in things to boost the range of my network and that seems to have sorted it out.

My connection was fine with Virgin until I got a Superhub a couple of weeks ago. Constant errors, broken images and slow speeds. I ended up having to turn it to modem mode and just using my old modem.

Now my speeds are fine and I've had no connectivity issues.

Any good deals for the Wii U around at the moment?

I'm toying with the idea of getting one for The Wonderful 101's release, mainly for that, Pikmin, Monster Hunter and the Xenoblade Chronicles sequel when it comes out. I'm not a massive Mario or Zelda fan, so I'm just wondering whether it's worth it considering I've already got a pretty good PC, Xbox and PS3. Any other exclusives that might make it worth my while?
