so who's taking the plunge with this?

Is there a benefit to having more than one toy of the same kind... screenshots seem to suggest there might be, as 4 quid is a bit much to take a punt on to find you've got something you don't want and no one to swapsies it with.

I tried to get it yesterday, but they didn't have it in the Belfast branch.

Is there really anything to the figures but novelty and collectability (and filthy lucre)? It looks like the new version still has a password system in place for unlocking some of the more powerful Pokémon, as the first one is already out: http://www.serebii.net/rumbleu/passwords.shtml

It's not really a Pokemon game. It has Pokemon in it, but it's no more a proper Pokemon game than Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or Pokemon Pinball.

What is it then? I saw the little trailer on Nintendo Direct and it almost looked like Smash Bros or something with lots of Pokemons on screen and stuff happening, in fact, it looked a bit like a video game rendition of Hungry Hippos from all the sense I could make out ot it...

It did look quite fun from that vid but I'm not sure if I'd ever actually play it, especially with Wonderful 101 and the fact that all the other consoles seem to have woken up and released some other games recently. Let alone GTA V.

Mine are playing Rumble U right now. It's already their favourite game on the Wii U. Their reviews:

"Dead good."

"Awesome."

"Really cool and there are loads of characters."

They got the special edition and an extra pokeball each so they have five little plastic figures. The point seems to be that they are super powered compared to the normal ones in the game, and you can scan them in during the game whenever you want to use them. They think this feature is the best thing ever. I suspect they're far from essential and remove much of the challenge so if you're not playing with kids just get the cheap version and play it as God intended.

Looks like the secret password system is still in there too, for free, uber-powerful pokeymans:

That Pokemon game got 1 out of 10 in metro and was labeled as one of the worst games ever made.

If find that hard to believe but it was quite scathing.

How utterly fucking ridiculous. Based on my play of the Wii and 3DS versions, I know it's not going to be a fantastic game, but it's never going to be 1/10. Unless it rapes you while you sleep or something?

It's not a 1/10 game. I like GC, but they can often be very dismissive of games that aren't specifically targeted at them. I've been playing it with my son most of this week - he loves it and I don't mind it. Hardly a classic, but it's better than the other two Rumble games, and you can unlock every Pokémon in the game without having to pay for a single figure.

That said, it's admittedly irritating that the figures have to be bought blind. We picked up five today and got lucky - all were different - though we didn't get the one my son wanted most either.
