Nintendo Wii U

musashi doesn't like Nintendo and is angling to be the next Pachter.

This old chestnut, the facts speak for themselves, I'm hardly making controversial conclusions based on no evidence am I? compared to what Patcher said about them recently, he seems overly optimistic about the Wii U's chances imo. You'd probably more easily believe exactly the same points being raised by a pro-fanboy I suspect.

I replied in this thread because people were talking about it, move all those posts to the other thread if people feel strongly about keeping this thread pure.

Nintendo could happily absorb 500 million in loses. Sega simply couldn't. The two situations are miles apart.

Missing the point, why does Nintendo exist?, answer, making you happy is the byproduct of their primary reason to exist. Why don't they slash the price and get sales up and bundle a load of stuff with it right now? voluntarily losing lots of money isn't the reason they are a business, better to sell less and eek out a profit, than sell a lot and do a Sony or Microsoft.

It's OK fella, I was only mucking about. I'll edit a smiley into my post.

The WiiU is undeniably doing shit but I tend to not really believe most things unless I see them for myself, fanboy or no.

EIther way, I just think it's a shame as IMHO, it's a great console but then again, so was the Cube. Bloody 'mainstream', no accounting for taste (or sense).

All the wii u needs to do is sell enough to keep Nintendo making games for it and i will be happy - between it and my XL i havent turned the ps3 or 360 on in weeks and i have a fully fledged BF3 addiction ;)

But in all seriousness Nintendo have to make the RRP £199 for christmas with a bundle deal for a little more - its going to be £150+ cheaper than a single game bundle for a PS4 & Xbone and thats a hell of a lot at xmas, a £179 basic with mario 3d lands would fly off the shelves and by that time people coming into the wii u new will have some pretty epic games to play already with Mario Kart not that far off - seems a bloody tempting purchase to me.

Interestingly i dont know anyone getting a ps4 or xbone on launch outside of 'internet friends' but everyone i know has a wii or 360 or ps3 or combination of them and i now have 2 real life friends with a wii u - one bought one for pikmin 3 and the other is my sister who bought one full price for nintendoland after playing it mp round mine. It is a great machine, its harder to sell i guess but get it in peoples hands over xmas and i imagine word of mouth sales will fly.

Of course had i had one since launch i may be a bit more bitter about the lack of games, the last few month has seen me buy one and build a pile of shame already :o

I've had mine for 2 days and I really love it. Although, I still have no games! Waiting for Nintendo Land and ZombiU to turn up in the post and am hopefully getting Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 for my Birthday in a couple of weeks. Just messing about with the UI and Art Academy is keeping me entertained, though. You get a real wallop of joy when you see the Miis in HD.

A sub 200 quid system with Mario 3D World definitely makes the most sense to try and get Wii Us shifting. They should add a Mario Kart demo to the disc too. Get it out there to the people that 8 is coming and it's amazing.

I'll add you in later Epcotman.

Not that there is really a game that uses the friend list that well (as far as I've noticed). Even Pikmin 3's rankings on the mission modes isn't as good as in MKWii which is a bit of a shame.

It can be useful in Monster Hunter, as you can jump directly into friends' games.

That is quite clever. I should (shouldn't really) get Monster Hunter.

I've still not even done much of Luigi U.

On a more general note, is the range of the Gamepad just a bit shit, or do I have too much interference / thick walls? I can't play the Gamepad in the next room to my WiiU while in bed and it's (through a wall) probably about 2 metres away, if that.

Range is pretty short, we live in a bungalow and the living room and our bedroom are seperated by the hall - it just reaches when in bed, the bed is on the wall closest to the living room. Mind the walls are all solid brick so maybe not terribly bad, we also have multiple wireless devices and networks (Sonos, N + G) so i guess its ok - doesnt reach the loo :(

ZombiU uses the friend list really well - especially when you find somebody to slay and loot.

Poor old ZombiU - it did so many things really well. It deserved to do better both critically and commercially :(

Not really keen on how Duck Tales looks, nor the price. Plus I remember the NES version as one of the easiest games I ever played, which puts me off buying it too. I do love the theme tune though.

But Uncle Scrooooooooge

I can't even use the gamepad in the same room if I dare venture near the window side.

Hark at thou living in Luigis mansion ;)

If anyone sees Zombie u in tescos would they mind awfully buying it for me and posting it on - so may Tescos this way but none have had stock thus far :(

I've actually got ZombiU but I've not really got into it for whatever reason. I just need a good session on it but as I can't plug my WiiU into my old Dell monitor in the man cave, I need the living room TV for a significant chunk of time...

It's only £13 on eBay if that helps:

Haha! It's not even a large living room. It's a squat L shape, like you've amputated a tetris piece. The wall forming that inner corner is old brick and it completely stops the gamepad signal dead. I knew my wild dreams of using it as a wee netflix machine in bed were too good to be true.
