Nintendo Wii U

Trine 2 was really enjoyable but it did show up my problem with GamePad only play which is that details get lost quite easily.

I could see what I was doing but anything in the background was ill-defined. Things like NSMBU and Toki Tori 2 have much less going on in the background and they work perfectly off-TV.

Can't imagine this is a particularly popular opinion, but I think I actually prefer New Super Luigi U to New Super Mario Bros U. The smaller, quicker levels and the changes in control give the whole thing a lovely momentum. Plus, it's nice to actually be tested again (even if I'm still not finding it quite as difficult as I would like). Stick some instant restarts in there and you've almost got Nintendo does Meat Boy.

I completed Luigi last night, and although I don't prefer it to Mario, it's definitely a great game. I do like the smaller levels, and unlike other Mario games where you control a floaty-slidey Weegi, this one's levels are based around his floaty-slideyness. There are massive jumps Mario couldn't make, things he can crouch-slide under, etc. You never feel like you're wrestling with his physics like you do in other games (like Super Mario Bros 2, for example).

No idea why this was negged.

I've barely touched my 360 since the Wii U launch (and my PS3 in over a year). Pretty much all my gaming is Wii U or 3DS based these days.

I've been Nintendo/Steam only for the last 12 months, and I'm an happier gamer again. I don't think it's so much the platform, but just how I'm playing — recent Nin games just put a smile on my face.

Also, Runner 2.

People love to see things fail. So there's always one thing on the market that's taking the brunt of everyone's criticism.

Last year it was the Vita. A great machine, a fantastic launch line-up, bit of a games drought in the months immediately following release but then everything always gets that. Picked up by Christmas. Doomed according to the internet.

This year it's the Wii U's turn. Funnily enough, the Vita's doing OK now, loads of great little games coming out on it and lots of people picking one up thanks to PS+.

Next year hopefully everyone will move onto bashing the Xbox One and the Wii U will be allowed to quietly get on with being a great games machine.

Maybe its just the fact that everyone expects more from Nintendo compared to everyone else. Personally, i think the WiiU should have dropped officially to £199 for a premium and we should have a bit better third party support.

But apart from that I dont think Nintendo can do much more at the moment. What they SHOULD have done at E3 was annouce a new Galaxy, a new Metroid and a new Zelda. Just something to wet our appetites.

Of course, the next few months are looking stellar and thats enough for me. Frankly, I have too many great games for the thing anyway and dont have the time to devote to Lego City.

Wrong. I think you hold down the shoulder buttons when entering a level.

EDIT: Just tried it. Hold ZL when entering a level.

WHAT?! So that means one player can play as Nabbit and the other can play in boost mode? That means NSLU is actually even more accessible to kids than NSMBU...

Thanks for the recommendation! I will certainly get ZombiU. Just finished updating and having my first look around...

Good man - you won't regret it - really good use of the gampad too.

Don't forget to send friend requests from inside Miiverse so that notifications get generated!

I don't mean this to sound like an unsubtle dig but get almost all of the WiiU only games imho - Lego City Undercover (regardless of your preference for previous Lego games - I never liked the others), ZombiU, NintendoLand, NSMB U, Pikmin 3.

Good place to start and then you've got Wonderful 101 at the end of the month and then Wind Waker HD and Mario 3D Land U coming up.

Ah Ok, thanks for the help. I'm already loving Mii Verse. My Nintendo ID is Epcotman if anyone would like to buddy up.

Has Monster Hunter dropped in price anywhere yet? It's the only recent release (of interest) I haven't picked up yet..

Having said that god knows where I'll find the time to play it (and already got a WiiU backlog building) but that's besides the point.
