Nintendo Wii U

I think most people on here would be more ambivalent/sympathetic about Nintendo and the Wii U too, but their cheerleaders ain't helping their cause, more like hindering it.

You don't hear much bitching about the 3DS, because it actually has substance and solid foundations, and practically zero competition if you want a portable with physical controls and decent software support, even if you don't want/desire Nintendo developed games.

I really do wish that there was an instant restart when you lose a life in a Mario game... or even just a button that made me restart instantly... so, I'm about to fuck up... smack the reset button and I'm immediately running from the start again. (just like in Trials HD).

I was playing NSMBU this weekend and said this very exact same thing :)

The issue with the wii u and its being liked is odd, IMO it has some anazing games already - NSMBU, Lego, Nintendoland and some really solid system wide games like sonic carts, blops2, nfs etc etc

It also has a decent start to VC and a good basis of an eshop.

It just seems fashionable to be down on it, I have had mine a few months and I love it - it's wiped the floor with the ps3 & 360 launch IMO and is a cracking machine! I had a midnight launch 360 and near launch ps3 and recall an equally baron spell of decent software but loads of shovel ware coming out all the time! The wii u seems to suffer through lack of decent but not stellar titles and its an odd position to be in - maybe I just don't buy as much stuff as others but u could live on the wii u first party stuff alone!

It does need to get more 3rd party stuff and a proper schedule of releases for Nintendo stuff, e3 showed some amazing games but the disappointing thing was the schedule, the lack of one and the delay!

Thinking it through I guess the wii u is the ideal supplement console, maybe on its own it will never appeal or get the support - have it alongside a ps4/xbone and all bases are covered!

Seriously considering a Wii U after realising how few ps4 games appeal to me. What tv catchup services does it have? And does it do Youtube?

I'm also confused about controller options. Is it generally fair to assume: Tablet thing and 4x Wii remote plus is the way to go? Any use for nunchucks?

Thank you guys. Looking forward to some Nintendo again <3

Has this been posted?

The Legends are Coming!

Is there a list anywhere so I don't have to waste 15mins?

Chris Schilling is a very pro Nintendo... he's disappointed with Luigi. Nothing wrong with that.

I wish Nabbit was available in the whole game. Would be perfect for my kid.

He is isn't he by pressing ZL?

It does Netflix, love film and YouTube

The gamepad and a couple of motion pluses for Nintendoland are all you need. Nunchucks requires for Metroid in Nintendoland and for the best CoD controls. ;)

Have you had any problems with Netflix? It wouldn't work for me for ages, then a reinstall fixed it for a while, but now I only get the splash screen followed by a black screen.

Funnily enough my WiiU is becoming my Netflix machine of choice. My Apple TV would be otherwise, but it's started dropping the connection after 10 mins of videos and audio going out of sync.

The WiiU has been rock solid. Only problem is using it for long period of time and the controller battery!

The TVii service is due to be launched in selected territories in Europe this year. I'd imagine the UK is one of those...

It's launched in the US and it sounds pretty good..

Funnily enough, MS had more or less the same service as the main launch point for the Xbox One....

Youtube is already on it.

Youtube always works for me, by that i get the same random experience i do across any device ive ever tried it on - perfect in full hd and then cant play 320p for now reason then back to perfect!

I seem to have sorted my netflix grief on wii u - manual entered ip settings seems to have resolved but then i do make sure its never the first app i open as thats a know issue apparently!

I usually find that if my machine locks up on on app that requires the Internet (like YouTube) it helps if I restart my router.

So err, either restart your WiiU or router, it's up to you.

What a pointless post.

Have a +1 anyway for trying to be helpful.

that how we roll in Nintendoland.

I'm going to come out and say it: Eurogamer hate the Wii U. I don't say this as an owner of the console but rather as a reader of their site and a listener of their podcasts. I can't remember when they have said anything good about the machine or its games. They were very quick to jump on the, since proven incorrect, information about the CPU and GPU, and I find it quite poor that they have never come back to redress that article in the light of subsequent findings about the machine. As a site, they are obsessed with power and the shinies, as can be seen in their Digital Foundry articles, and in their podcasts, they are generally very disparaging of the machine. The only good things I can remember is the one where they say about playing it on the go with that portable charger and the low power draw of the machine.

In light of this, the 6 comes as no surprise.

Pfft, Eurogamer is fucking shite these days. It's either techno-wank articles from digital foundry, talking utter bollocks about shaders or which version has the most stable framerate (wow, how... interesting), or some shite news article about an iOS or kickstarter release.

I used to really like Eurogamer, especially when Tom Bramwell and the likes used to write most of the reviews, but it just seems to be like Gamesradar or SPONG (remember them??) - trying to get as many articles as possible up per day, instead of focusing on one or two excellent reviews/previews.

Sums up the whole games journalist industry. A load of pish.

The Digital Foundry stuff is at least clearly labelled as such. It's a separate part of the site aimed at a specific audience and it's clearly not the same style or content as Eurogamer's usual stuff. I don't mind it too much - sometimes, when you're paying £40 for a game, it's reassuring to know that you've got the best version for your money even if the differences are tiny. If someone wants to spend hours laboriously testing stuff for my benefit then I'm happy for them to do so.

Eurogamer on the whole though is still a great site, it's one of the very few that allows its writers to express personality in their reviews without feeling the need to try and make them into tedious internet "personalities".
