To sandman:

I'm just posting on Letterboxd these days.

Thanks for the advice. Having looked at the link rgraves provided I'm still going with the basic package though. The colour is a non-issue and if needed I can pick up a cradle for under £12. I'd rather spend the extra money on games rather than extra bits that aren't essential.

HMV were selling off the cradles for £4.99 if you have one close.

You can just plug the charger cable into the top of it. I've never actually used the charging cradle thing.

Great. That sounds fine for me.

Thanks. I'll check to see if they have any left.

Final question - just noticed ShopTo are selling the basic console for £200 on Play.com but it is almost £50 more on their own site: is there some obvious reason I'm missing that would cause such a difference in price?

It might be worth holding out a little - ShopTo were selling the basic + New Super Mario Bros U for £189 on their site recently.

It does. Unless she bought the Zombi U bundle.

What are people doing with regard to Super luigi U?

I fancy it, and the download price is quite nice. My friend (who is quite anti download in fairness) is going for the disc though, because he says they probably won't make a lot and it'll have good resale value. But I basically never sell Nintendo games, and when I did I regretted it (original 3ds to fund wii u)..

Bit late now as I ordered a console, classic controller and copy of Mario an hour ago. Still, I can't complain at the price.

Did you Flubit?

Either way, I'd personally say the must-haves right now are:

1) ZombiU (this really is criminally hard done by in many reviews, I think it's a gem)

2) Lego City Undercover

3) Bit. Trip. Runner 2

4) Nintendoland (you can pick it up cheap, and it's awesome in multiplayer)

I've left off MH3 because I've never played it....

The 'play if you've not played them already elsewhere' list:

1) Batman

2) Need for Speed

3) Trine 2 (includes some Wii U exclusive content that is just gorgeous)

4) Sonic All Stars Racing

So I had to send off my console and Gamepad to get repaired, kept losing connection between the 2. The service centre advised to send both separately. So I did. The console was received yesterday, fixed apparently today and sent off for return. But the Gamepad seemingly hasn't been received...what can I do about this? I got the wife to send it off on Friday, so don't know if there is a tracking number or anything, trying to get this info now off her. Should there be a tracking number?

Depends how you sent it.

Panic over! There was tracking, trying to get my wife to remember what she done with the receipts was another story. Turns out they received it this morning, 2 days after the console. At least its not lost and it should be fixed and back with me soon!

Wii GC loaders don't work because the WIi U doesn't have the GC compatibility bit of the operating system to take advantage of.

It seems like the ones which can be made to work are interpreters which take advantage of the shared CPU architecture between the 3 systems to run GC games natively (I have no Idea what that actually entails...)

This was the last I'd seen from a different developer in December- no GC controller slots = no way to play it

Fans are looking forward to Zelda’s first original Wii U outing.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma won’t say much about it, but he did discuss with Kotaku how Wind Waker HD is preparing Nintendo for the big project, and how it’s a” kind of testing ground”:

“Wind Waker HD is kind of a testing ground for us. With Wind Waker we were able to accomplish, for the first time, to create a seamless experience. You traveled a great sea… also [we are adding] the Miiverse communication of playing with others virtually. So we’re going to take things like this and add to those so the Wii U [new Zelda] experience should be one that is satisfying to players.”

Aonuma also confirmed that the Wind Waker HD will merge with the new Zelda Wii U team once the project is done. It will be a “super-team!”

I have no idea what Flubit even is.

Thanks for the other recommendations. In truth I bought the console for the upcoming titles (Wonderful 101 in particular) so NSMBU will probably entertain me in the interim but Nintendoland might be worth a buy too. As pretty as a lot of the next gen games were at e3 I was bored before the trailers had even finished whereas most of the Wii U titles might not have been revolutionary but they sure looked a lot of fun to play.
