Interesting bit of WiiU related news:

Grounding Inc is busy developing Crimson Dragon for the Xbox One. Additionally, the company is creating something for Nintendo.

Game director Yukio Futatsugi confirmed to Joystiq that Grounding has an unannounced project in the works for the Big N. He wasn’t willing to divulge any details, however.

SonIc Lost Worlds does look better from a single player experience prospective.

And daring to do something different, for Sonic at least. My only worries with it are how easily you could 'possibly' fall into oblivion. Some of the courses look very tight from a platforming prospective. It'll depend if Sonic himself is slippery, I suppose.

It won't be. I'm not sure it'd work very well online anyway, what with all the bouncy off each others head and throwing each other about. Lag would probably just make it irritating. Has their been any online multiplayer platformers like this at all?

Then again fighting games work so what do I know (although Smash Bros was unplayable online)

Surely there'd be more chance of lag issues in Smash Bros then a platformer like this.

I've had it with our American male dominated dudebro gaming press. I'm completely out of synch with what they like and want.

I know what I like and I'll buy it when it comes out.

The BBC has a photo gallery of the 'big games of E3'. They're all grey/brown and not a Nintendo game in sight.

You know, if 3D World were online, I'd actually be praising it.

Mario platforming! With friends online!

But no.

No reason not to, in this day and age.

That sort of precise 60fps update game just won't work with the latency of the internet, shooters have always used interesting predictive tricks to hide their latency. I'm sure Nintendo have tried it but weren't happy with the results, plus, they are more concerned with bringing people together in real life than encouraging people to be seperated when they play multiplayer.

They use the same method every other genre uses, when latency drops you just stutter like a motherfucker til it recovers.

Seriously though, if fighting games can work over the net, so can ruddy platformers. How could you not predict Mario's jumps?

Anything with lots of physical contact between players is hard to do online. Driving and shooting games can fake it (cover up the latency) quite well. A game where characters can pick each other up and doesn't use the long animation sequences you see in a fighting game would be hard to pull off.

Nothing to do with money. And I'm not saying its impossible but Mario Kart is a lot easier to make work online than a multiplayer Mario game like this.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I hate multiplayer Mario. Jesus, for such a family oriented games company how did they come up with something so sadistic? I swear, it's the only thing that's ever made me want to hit my kids. I had to hide the disc for all our sakes.

Oh, absolutely, there's nothing quite like the rage you feel when jumping over a gap and your child lands Mario on your head sending you to your doom... It should be banned by the NSPCC.

The multiplayer aspect of NSMB/NSMBU is the best thing about them. I cant wait to be able to do it in a 3D Mario.

While getting in each others way all the time makes certain parts of the levels harder being able to bubble counteracts this, plus nothing beats being able to share the games with other people especially if they have played a lot of Mario before (so you can do positive stuff together).

Surely you are taking Mario a bit too seriously when being bopped down a hole (and having to wait 10 seconds to come back in a bubble) causes you genuine rage? Stuff like this, or having four people competing to cram into a single safe space before being squashed are the highlights of the game!

I love NSMBU multiplayer. It's as infuriating as you let it be - we play mostly co-operatively, but it's pretty funny picking up toad and throwing him into the Lava. Most of the time when we get to a particularly hard bit to co-ordinate, the best player stays out and everyone else just bubbles. I don't think I'd play it in a bad mood.

I suppose if Mario's about to jump on another player's head, the computer has to know if that other player is really there or a lagging echo, particularly if a third player is about to land on Mario's head, a fourth player on the third's, and so on. There's no way to fake that sort of interaction, it's way too dense. Everyone has to be in-sync, or the whole thing unravels. It would have to update constantly, so it would be slowing down for everybody everytime the connection lags.

Alternatively, you could have one instance of the game running on a server and everyone stream the video of it to their Wiis, OnLive-style. That would probably work better than trying to sync four instances of the game with each other. You'd still get slight input latency, but it would be uniform.

I'm sure 60player MAG in real life is a fucking blast.

That is not a encouragement feature in the internet age.

Oh Christ, can you imagine trying to play Mario online with randoms? getting some knob who uses a Yoshi to eat the other players before chucking them off cliffs? A three year-old just jumping on the spot eternally? Luigi suddenly disappearing because of a rage-quit? The frankly sinister grown men online who would have played 500 hours after three months? Mario is much better suited for playing around a single TV screen. At least when you play with morons on Battlefield you can get on with the game whilst they get their tanks stuck in ravines.

Yeah, well, I hear some people like nipple clamps too.

When you get bopped on the head down a hole and everybody loses all their lives at the same time and then you have to do THE LAST FUCKING THREE LEVELS AGAIN that you spent A HUNDRED GOES trying to usher your offspring through, then I can tell you I ain't smiling buddy!
