Nintendo Wii U

You're right but what a game Zelda would be if it was..... but with puzzles too. Skyrim had puzzles mind.... although I can't remember any block pushing ones :)

I'd hope a Zelda game would have more colour and interesting environments and characters than Skyrim.

Let's face it.. the aim of Zelda is *always* to be open world. The only reason there are breaks in it is a result of technical limitations. I'm pretty sure the guys who worked on Skyward Sword would have liked nothing better than to have had you to move completely freely from the ground to the sky in a whim... even comments from Aunouma on Wind Waker suggests that the boat speed was restricted on the Game Cube version because it couldn't load fast enough.

Zelda on WiiU will be non-linear and open world. Think the original Legend of Zelda game, brought right up to date on hardware more powerful than the PS3 or 360.

SLABBER

and I bet it'll feature sailing, horse riding and flying.

I said it in the Skyward Sword thread to some ridicule, but I think the games that Zelda should borrow from more are the 3D Mario games. They leaned towards making Link more agile with SS, but I think they could go further and just give you full control. He doesn't need to be as acrobatic as Mario, but I feel like it would let them experiment in different ways with physical puzzles (and just overall world traversal). I imagine more a cross between Mario 64 and Ocarina than I do a cross Between Zelda and Skyrim.

Oh plus I really want to be able to name Link 'Link' to get some special music.

Nonsense. Zelda on the NES is open-world. Total freedom to go everywhere around the whole map.

The NES! The flipping NES!!

Did you finished reading my post? Exactly... Zelda 1 and 2 are open world and since then they've pulled it back, mainly due to technical restrictions.

Yes, I'm saying technical restrictions is a bollocks reason. OoT is more "open" than Skyward Sword, and that's running on an N64 with a fraction of the memory!

Why didn't technical restrictions stop Zelda 1 and 2 from being "open world" games?

If Nintendo wanted Zelda to be "open world", they would make it that way. They choose not to, either because it would take too long to make or because they don't think their consumers want it. It's not because they need a bit more power to be able to make it feasible. That's crazy talk.

Come now, OOT's Hyrule Field is just a big empty space with some walls around it. There's no actual content in that section.

It's a shame Nintendo don't get some creative software out like little big planet. Create your own games! Use all the assets that Nintendo (re)use and i'm sure that would go down hugely well. Whats more, the touchscreen would have a great purpose..

It certainly felt with OOT you were doing your thing and unravelling the story as you went. Whether it was real or not there was none of that sense in Skyward Sword.

That's nothing to do with the open Hyrule field though, is it.

I've decided I'm going to get a Wii U. I am excited. I miss Nintendo plus it'll be good for my depression as opposed to stupid shooty games.
