Nintendo Wii U

Betting right now that the eventual new Zelda will be cell-shaded again. They've used the cute small bastard 4 times (including the HD remake) now. They evidently like him more then traditional Link these days.

Edit: If the Wii U lasts long enough for the 4 year development time needed for the next Zelda.

They've really lost it haven't they. The release schedule makes the thing makes the N64 days look like an ocean full of video games. And this time there is a heck of a lot less third party support. I think it's the beginning if the end for them for home consoles. They are obviously in dire straits.

What's annoying as fuck is that it's a brilliant console. It just has a lack of games, and much more importanly, a lack of much on the horizon. Why arent square enix supporting it? Also, where are all these innovative uses of the gamepad we were promised. Oh that's right, there aren't any.

If they can't support the console then they should concentrate on the 3ds.

The rest of year is packed with games, what you on about Willis?

I'm not sure I'd say its packed. It's a good schedule, but what's coming after it?

Is also needs a new IP. And why have Nintendo forgotten how to advertise. They were brilliant at it in the wii and ds days

How's X working out for you when it comes to new IP?

Can't really see what games are in that line up that would make someone buy a Wii U that doesn't already have one. Wonderful 101 at push I suppose.

I am amazed at the positive responses to Mario Kart, looks beyond tired to me. As someone said up thread, great Mario Kart is about tight tracks with simple weapons that rely on skill for precision and defence. It's totally lost what made it the legend that it is.

It's comforting to come back after two and a half years and find the Nintendo discussion continuing on exactly the same basis it did then, and always has done since the dawn of time.

Release schedule blah. New IP blah. Third party support blah. Old IP blah. This will be their last console blah.

It's like putting on an old pair of pants. Comfortable but wearing a bit thin!

Yeah, I know. But something feels different this time.

I think either you get Nintendo or you don't.

Super Mario Land 3D has just made me decide to plump for the WiiU. Look at the developer video for that. It's a joy, out and out fun and joy. Whereas others see it as a retread. Yes it's a retread, but look at the new ideas in that video. You know there'll be more not shown. I think a WiiU for this Christmas and a PS4 to compliment it the following year and I'll be sorted for gaming for the next 5 years. If its only Nintendo making games for the WiiU that suits me just fine!

I actually think we have taken it for granted in a way - we are getting more nintendo games than ever. The SNES saw a handful of games over it's lifespan, even the N64 did too although it must be said without Rare the n64 might have not done anywhere near as well as it did (although i do realise pokemon made the n64 last a year or two extra).

The other consoles have had huge release schedules in the past - back in the day we were lucky do see more than a few released a month.

I do however think all three will struggle. People will stick with their 360s for a long time yet i reckon. Not everyone can afford £500 for a console and game. Nintendo could get things right by making the wii u a lot cheaper to attract third partys if people are buying the wii u because they cant afford a xbone or ps4.

I think I was just over hyped for what Mario was going to be... I'm still a bit disappointed that it's not like Galaxy, but, I know it'll be excellent and the gameplay videos coming out demonstrate that its full of imagination.

Put it this way, (predictably), I'll be buying a first party game from Nintendo every month for the rest of the year. Is there another publisher that can do that?

Not even an acknowledgement. Does an open world Zelda do nothing for you? It sounds amazing to me. And maybe an actual forward step, in the right direction, for the series.

Scott Bromely wasn't impressed

But it raises an interesting question for in that most of the media at E3 have been playing Nintendo games since the late 80s so have spent almost all of their life with so obviously will become jaded when something that is similar to what they've played before is released. Whereas with the realistic shooting/racing/Uncharted style games on the PS4/Xbox still feel relatively new because they have only really appeared in the last decade or so. So while Sony and Microsoft may have more of the same to the same level as Nintendo, because they haven't be doing it as long the media is a lot more forgiving.

so - apparently xbox and playstation have these 'awesome exciting games' while nintendo 'just have these nintendo games'.

Please can our gaming media stop being so fucking American and bro shite? Please?

Scott Bromley said that Donkey Kong was developed by Rare Studios there. Alongside being pretty terrible at Mario Kart. Your opinion is void, Scott Bromley.

Is Donkey Kong definitely Retro's game, then? That's a bit of a shame; I'd have hoped they'd be creating something entirely new. I did love Donkey Kong Country Returns; it's a better game than the originals, plus I'm more than happy to buy this sequel but there are plenty of top quality platformers from Nintendo already. Don't need another so soon.

I kinda disagree that the next gen consoles have more exciting games though. I'd like to know what they are. There's MGSV, but that's gonna come to current gen systems too, right? Nintendo's Direct was disappointing in that there were no real surprises. If we hadn't known about Bayonetta 2 or X prior to that Direct it probably would have been considered amazing. A 2013 release for Mario Kart would have made a huge difference too.

He seems to be a bit of an idiot.

I was a bit disappointed by the reveals but the games are almost all ones I want. I don't want anything on the other new consoles just yet.

More a matter of taste of course, the PS4/XBone games all look great - they just aren't my thing.

I want more games from Nintendo but I don't want them to change the kinds of game they make.

I guess Nintendo have gone for guaranteed sellers like Mario Kart, DKC, Smash Bros & 3D World this time around to hopefully get people buying the console before they try rejuvenating the less popular stuff like Metroid and F-Zero. However, if they don't get a proper new Star Fox out soon I will bite them hard.

Let's face it - it's never coming =(

also, the GC starfox adventures did the best fur i have seen... no one has bettered it yet.

An open world Zelda sounds amazing. As long as it remains a puzzle game at heart.

Word is they're going right back to the original which was very much an open world game.

Quite funny that when skyrim came out (same time as skyward sword) people where saying it was like an open world zelda and how zelda should be like that.

Although, Zelda has mostly always been open world. I assume more that you can do bits in different orders etc to be classed as open world.
