Nintendo Wii U

I'll chuck another £1.50 in to upgrade my SMW. That game has brought me so much joy over the years - at my cousin's house on his SNES, taking it in turns as Mario and Luigi, for free on a PC emulator a few years later, on my GBA, then again on my wonderful GB Micro. Most recently on the Wii VC with a mate, after a heavy night of drinking. Such a perfect game. If I had to pay a fiver so it doesn't die and get forgotten about like so many games, then so be it.

Had a wee go on that Rayman challenge app thing and couldn't get my time under 21 seconds for the platforming one. Ended on 21"16; some folk have times of 18 seconds, which is wild. Did the weekly challenge too, which is a pretty rubbish touch-screen thing. Got 37"88 on that but again wild folks have times of 31 seconds and under. Oof.

It's a fun wee thing for free, but as a game it feels a little unsatisfying to play coming fresh from NSMBU. It's pretty at least.

Dunno what the big deal is with people complaining with the price of SNES games... is Super Mario World better than Treasure Island Dizzy?

Because it's the same price when you take into account inflation.

And the update (which it did automatically) is pretty impressive with the speed difference. I like it. Haven't tried the B to boot into Wii mode. Hopefully that's actually fast enough now so I can transfer my Wii games over...

I notice the friends list is restricted to 100. Thats poop. I went through the muk list and added who I could, I'll try clearing out non responders and adding others after the weekend.

I forget to check notifications, did I respond? Also did you do it from the... thingy you're supposed to? Someone help me out here. If you do it one way people will see the notifications, if you do it another people don't.

Aaaah, I know I'm a mug for grabbing SMW but it's worth it for nostalgia. I can practically smell my brand new launch snes that a got from Boots in the half term holidays.

Hang on, Wikipedia has the Euro launch of the Snes down as June 6th 92, that's not correct right? I remember getting mine during Easter half term.

Edit, 11th of April according to Eurogamer... 2 days before my birthday, how very convenient. :)

I'd say the Murfy level shows genuine use of the Wii U GamePad. Granted perhaps a bit too fast and frantic. Your bashing the character to move faster, your hitting bugs, your adjusting platforms so that Globox doesn't fall to his doom, hitting fireballs, snapping rope AND trying to swish lums before Globox collects them so that they count as double. Fully leaderboarded AND you can activate/deactivate other players ghosts.

Somehow that sounds like much more interesting use of the GamePad then just placing platforms along Mario's way.

Wii games looks sooooo much better played thorough this. Other than HD and better online, I'm struggling to see how the can make games like Smash Bros and Galaxy better

Does it upscale Wii games then? I want to get round to playing the Galaxy games one of these days, and although it looks nice emulated it doesn't quite feel right.

I thought vc games were cheaper if you already owned them on the wii? Mario is £5.49 and it makes no mention of the fact that i own it already. Surely they are not classing pal and ntsc vesions as seperate games?

Edit. Do i have to transfer the contents of my wii first?

It doesn't upscale unfortunately - but it does look much better still than the Wii output.

ach, that's a shame, and a missed opportunity. I don't trust my clapped out TV to upscale it nicely. Mind you, I never really notice when the PS3 gets upscaled to 1080p from sub-HD games so I might get away with it.
