And most likely never will for Wii VC games from non-Nintendo hardware formats.

Quite. They've still yet to mention N64 games as to whether they will transfer over.

Wii VC on the controller screen is actually a decent selling point and is perfect for previously handheld systems such as GBA. But they seem determined not to utilise it as a way to drive early adopters.

I can't imagine for the life of me what it is, but there must be some reason for the weird use of VC, as it really is the most obvious thing for them to have used in thie incredibly empty launch window. Whatever happened to the any more Game Gear games on the 3DS as well?

No idea, but they've had loads of Game Gear games on the 3DS in Japan.

I'd actually wager that the slow release of Wii VC games actually hampered that service with the general public. Many will have entered the eshop when they first brought the console, seen there wasn't much there and never went back.

Yes, perhaps being greeted with an Itunes like library of thousands of games might have been a bit much but there is a happy medium that could have been reached. I would have suggested, as an opening offer, available on release with the console, perhaps the top ten games from every applicable Nintendo platform and then, on a monthly schedule, release another ten games for each platform and so on.

Within in year you'll basically have the store sorted without having launched every game at once. Whilst you do't want to overwhelm people you do really want a service which is the Nintendo itunes of games where you can reasonably expect to go into it and find 90% of the games you would be looking for. That's how the service should be utilised.

one thing that I like about the WiiU boot up screen is the way it shows you what other people are playing - you can highlight a game with a lot of comments and go straight to the eShop for that game.

I don't think lack of anything on the eShop to start with really stops people going into it...

Oh, that part is cool and new, yes. Seeing a general 'fun' census of what people are doing/whats popular without having to delve into some official website (majornelson) to see the same statistics.

EDIT: Or maybe not, there appears to be some confusion

EDIT 2: The new Rayman challenges demo certainly appears to be live now though.
